I wanted to snot Razor Ray in that first half. Directly cost us goals for and against.

For those saying we got out of jail, which we did to some extent, remember we were well on top for the first half, dominated the inside 50s, and their only avenue to goal was to sneak out the back.

Dare I say we are becoming the 'come from behind' specialists! 4 times in a row we have come from behind to win. I think this can be attributed to our inproved fitness to run out games!

Just out of curiosity I thought id look back at the team which ran out for Round 1, 2014 - Paul Roos first game as Demons coach.

B Dean Terlich, James Frawley, Jack Grimes

HB  Lynden Dunn, Tom McDonald, Bernie Vince

C Jimmy Toumpas, Jack Watts, Dom Tyson

HF Rohan Bail, Jack Fitzpatrick, Daniel Cross

F Alex Georgiou, Cameron Pedersen, Jeremy Howe

Fol Jake Spencer,Nathan Jones, Jack Trengove

I/C Shannon Byrnes, Viv Michie, Matt Jones

Sub Jay Kennedy-Harris

Peter Jackson was on ABC radio pre-game and made the point that there are only ten players still on the list from when Roos first came to the club - and he's only been here  since the end of the 2013 season.  That's more than 75% of the list.  Unbelievable really that we're able to be where we are given that.  For those that don't rate GWS (personally I think they're a skid mark on the underpants of the AFL - but they have talent) they should watch some more footy.  With their Academy picking the eyes out of the Riverina prospects they have some seriously good youngsters and will continue to do so for a long time.

On top of which we had only used 80 interchange compared to their 90

DD36 posting up those starting lineups brought my residual trauma to the surface....and like Song said, we thought it was a good team because we had no idea of a good list.

Paul Roos' leadership of this organisation will go down as the most influential of all time.

he went way out of his way to go to every player within 65 of the goal to rev them up, he did a little tour, when traditionally it is players going to the goalkicker, not the other way around. Absolutely made a statement that he wanted to drag us over the line

Hogan's been getting a lot of praise for his last quarter effort (and rightly so), but let's not lose sight of the fact that two of those three goals were set up by Watts.

and a couple of brutal clearances from Oliver in a row to turn the game on it's head, not bad for a first gamer

Oliver is our Easter gift after missing out on Wines. And he may well be better.

Thats all Ive wanted for years.  A team capable of remaining in a contest and coming from behind to win.  So many good things that we haven't had for years.  Put some talent around a Jack Watts and look what happens.  Hogan is a superstar.  He loves the pressure.  Travis Cloke my a*&e!  His spoil with 3 seconds left on the clock yesterday his most important contribution for me.  They are a very good team GWS.  Kennedy, superb.  I remember Oliver's highlights reel when we drafted him.  He didn't seem to acknowledge the difference between TAC and senior AFL footy as he went about helping us to win the game.  Nathan Jones?  I've said it before and I'll say it again.  I love that he is our Captain.  Matt Jones - wrote him off after kicking to all those spectators in one game late last year.  Good yesterday though.  Classy even.

Anyone have an idea why we would use less than allowed?

Strategy, getting players game fit. Maybe we plan to try and run some teams off their legs later in the year if needed.

Team missing for two quarters. One goal in that time. A very lucky get out of jail win. Vast improvement still needed. The bits where we were on are now good but the bad...really bad is still there.

You're not giving the team enough credit guys. Sure at time the disposal was woeful but the final quarter is how good teams win. Refused to give in against the odds. Gawns last quarter was amazing. Very happy with the way they won and once we get that forward line working watch out. Thats a game we WOULD have lost ever year since 2008.

I agree with you SR, however I'm sure the team and the coaching staff are well aware of the bad that's still there.

i must admit I was horrified by some of the efforts during the 2nd and 3rd quarters.

But sh*t the last was a beauty!

With O Mac of the ground, the rotations of the talls was limited. Haven't seen the game times of each player, but for match up reasons, T. Mac, Garland, Pedersen and Frost had to be on the ground.

GWS just have so much talent, I said earlier in the week they will turn the corner and be a legitimate finals team very soon. A credit to us for the win. The further into the replay I get the more it amazes me how much talent they have to play with when a bloke like Lobb can come in at over 200cms and look the goods.

Delivery into fwd 50 made it very difficult but others have mentioned there looked to be very little hard leading at the ball from our fwds.
Scully killed us early, his disposal is poo once he gets tired.
They got over the back to score to easily, but we were far better at contested footy.
Again turn over goals kills us, Bugg qtr 1,
Hoges needs to keep focused and keep working on second efforts if things don't go his way.
Jeffy G off the wing in the last was a thing of beauty.
3 votes... J Viney
Watts 5.25 to go in the last, hard, tough, sublime hands to Vanders who goals!
Last qtr was our highest scoring 4th qtr since 2013, bloody hell.
Clarry Oliver is going to be a bloody gun!! Along with Viney, Brayshaw and hopefully Tracc we have an imposing set of you mid guns.
Jetta just so reliable.

On cloud 9 last night and today, my little boys first taste of the G and the Dees (even though he slept through the entire second half). The wife then said i should stay out and get a few drinks in... What a ripping weekend!!!

Really excited for the season ahead, will have some ups and downs but if we can keep relatively injury free we will trouble a lot of sides.

I was sitting at the Punt Rd end yesterday. I loved that when we stacked the backline for that last bounce with 10 sec left to play, prior to the bounce Watts was waving frantically to the bench to make sure we didn't do anything silly like rotate a player and potentially leave us one short in the backline. It's exactly that awareness the leadership group were talking about when they were elected, and Watts had it in spades yesterday.

Can we sort this quoting issue....please.

It'll go in a report to the authors of the software to track down, along with some people's posts appearing twice. Currently every post I make produces an error then appears twice, very annoying.

Yes but we only have to look back as far as last year and the St.Kilda game. We are only starting to do what many consider "basics", yes we'll take the win but there's room from improvement across the board. We cannot afford to become complacent.

The AFL seems to be dedicated to pissing me off in little ways as well as big ones.  Now when you click on Roos' press conference on the MFC site you see a bit of it and then it displays a message saying go to the AFL web site to see the full interview.  Not only does that mean in future people won't go to the MFC site (which is bad for our business), but they don't even put a link to it - they expect you to get to the URL yourself.

Telstra and through them, the AFL, have never shown any interest in providing a good internet service

I just tried to subscribe to AFL live App to watch the replay on my Macbook. I followed their prompts and paid by credit card and received a confirmation email. I logged in to watch the replay thru afl.com.au but they are still asking me to subscribe. Has anyone else had this problem? I'm using Google Chrome as my browser.

Have woken up this morning and feel excited. What a great feeling, what a great Easter. And like JC, I feel our beloved old footy club has risen again.

I feel good too, despite the fact that I drank like Hemingway last night

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
