Hey, you are the one who stated  We brought him across to give him a consistent shot of games.

That statement gave me a good laugh as it is patently untrue.

Carry on.

I suspect that this was a poorly expressed thought: it makes us sound like a benevolent home for NQRs.

alongside kent, garlett, and to a lesser degree harmes, he provides genuine frontal pressure.

the more we have doing so in our front half, the better.

at one stage, he was touted as a likely top 5 pick in his draft year because of his ability at underage level to run and carry, and do something useful with the pill.

i remember watching his underage year and he, grundy and toumpas were the classiest players from south australia by far.

hopefully he continues along the path he's on now to becoming a regular afl player.

Love the look of Kennedy, his pressure is excellent, our forwards need to put pressure on the opposition backs to hold the ball in and even turn it over.  Too often we have kicked it in to see it rebound out as the opposition runs it down the field to score.

Good 2nd half against Port. Poor against the Dogs reserves. Which is when I posted that comment. Others were saying he'll end up at Casey. I was saying the coaches will stick with him.

Did they drop him for the Saints game where we fielded pretty much our round 1 team? No. And we were rewarded with 2 good games since.

Clubs recruit players due to their attributes, a role in the team or structure but also due to a perceived developmental advantage to make them better than they had been. Pretty simple concept.

Not for you apparently. We recruited him to give him a consistent shot at games. :roos:

Dished out two of the best bumps of my recent memory for the Dees in the last few games. Can't remember when they were now, but both times his opponent's gone spinning 360 like a bowling pin. That's the way footy should be played.

Love his swagger and hardness and when he's on he's got some real speed and class as well. Pretty excited by what he can produce, with the bonus of it shoving it up the pies when he really comes on.

I wasn't too keen on the trade when it happened but his NAB form and round 1 performance have him changing my mind. He's got pace and toughness which we lack... His two intercept efforts were enormous, the first resulted in Garletts goal and the second was in the middle of the ground when a GWS player switched it into the middle and Kennedy came from nowhere to spoil and create a turnover at a critical time. It's silly to compare him and Howe because there different players but I doubt we would have seen those 2 efforts from Howe... Having a look through Kennedys previous year stats he was a victim of the sub rule, seems when he played full games he did alright. Looking forward to what else he can produce

I am trying to be more positive this week after moping around the house all weekend.

And I wanted to start it off by bumping little Benny's thread and giving him a pump up.

I believe in the notion that you look at the players who stand up when the team is losing, rather than the down hill skiers.

We had a couple of players who were ok, like Jones and Vince, but BK was the only winner for the day.

Have to admit I wasn't expecting much from Kennedy, thought he'd be similar to our Michie/Newton pick ups. He has been fantastic especially the last two games. He has added some real pace to the team and he seems to have some mongrel and goal sense about him. He's playing really well and seems to have a bit of a chip on his shoulder with regards to how he was treated at the Pies.

Definitely a much better prospect than Howe who went missing far too often and only knew how to run one way.

He didn't have the biggest game on Sunday night but he still looked incredibly lively and I don't remember him making many (if any) mistakes. I'll admit I was a tad sceptical about his recruitment but he's been fantastic so far and would easily be in the top five in our Best and Fairest. He also has a bit of pace! Something we've severely lacked over the last few years. Howe was serviceable during his tenure but we've received a significant upgrade here.

Floated kick in to Kent up forward. Silly handball to Viney in the middle. He made a couple of mistakes. I think the grind of AFL footy is starting to slow him down a bit after a great first few weeks, but the good news is he's still playing his role and he might pick up again soon. If he has to go back to Casey at some stage that'll be ok too.

His ability to get to good spots has been his highlight the last couple of weeks. Just knows where to go to find the footy/be an option for team mates. When you combine that with speed it opens up the ground for everyone else.

I suspect you've thrown some bait in here but I'll take it. Without having watched the replays, I felt he'd been down a bit in the past two games after an exceptional start to the season . . .

Yeah, I thought he was fumbly when under pressure, and offered nothing when moved into the centre for ball-ups. Didn't think he did much against Collingwood  either.

I had Kennedy down as a candidate to get dropped if Petracca and Oliver were included. Assuming he doesn't play, I think we'll miss Oliver's clearance work, as I've got know doubt that the Saints will come up with a plan to nullify Gawn.

And they have the cattle and experience to do it.

Do you know whats really really funny? Collingwood gave up 2 second round draft picks for James Aish yet pretty much got rid of Kennedy for practically nothing. Massive LOLs!

Aish is now spudding it up and struggling to get more then 10 disposals a game while also looking extremely soft.

And Jeremy Howe playing in defence yesterday made me Lol big time considering he pretty much whinged that he wanted to play up forward when he went to the pies.

To those that didn't understand the decision to move on Howe an replace him with someone like Kennedy - Howe finds it extremely difficult to find the footy from the forward line unless he is sitting on shoulders. Kennedy is a point of difference in that forward line because;

1. he can get kicks up the ground,

2. he can fight for the footy in a scrum in the forward line,

3. and get it at the feet when the ball is directed toward Watts and Hogan.

I was really worried going into this year about who could help Garlett but Kennedy and Kent have played some excellent games this year. They have gone missing for times but playing small in the forward line is very tough. Adding Petracca to those three will be very interesting. They can all do damage offensively but are very hungry defensively.

See ball,  disregard own safety to get ball.  A bull at the contest,  just goes about it in the Viney fashion.  His goal where he extracted it from the pack and just rolled it through was just from wanting it more.  Also he is nearly impossible to knock over and has a knack for sneaking them through from angles.  Tough little barstard,  a little under appreciated but his inclusion with Bugg and what Oliver's been able to do is a big reason why we have turned it around to be number 1 for contested possessions this year.

I really think Kennedy is going to develop into a very good B plus grade player, i can't see him being a star, but i reckon the boys just love having him out there, he just goes in hard no matter the state of the game.

He's been handed a role and doing it OK some days, not so well sometimes and occasionally very well. As he settles and ups his games he'll be quite valuable ;)

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
