Unfortunately there wont be a big fish as we are Melbourne. But if it by some miracle it does happen, Paul Roos deserves to be honoured with a statue at the MCG.. and by at the MCG I mean on the ground in the centre circle.

Message from a contact the other day "dees doing the tuning. others doing the rooting".

My thoughts exactly.

But no one has sealed any deals yet.

just thinking, if we are indeed in the hunt for a big fish like danger, to what extent are we hindered by the fact that we know for certain we are going to need about 99% of our future salary cap in order to keep Hogan from leaving? If this is indeed the case could one argue that we are over-compensating by putting way too many eggs in the Hogan basket? What if he does an injury or ends up being just not that great in the end? Just a thought

Hogan is currently contracted on his current rate for two more seasons.

Doors/Grimes/Watts are all out of contract at the end of 2016. I'm guessing about 1.3 mil will be freed up.

Tmac will get some of that in his new contract.

Young players like Brayshaw/Petracca would be on minimum as 1st/2nd year players.

Jones contract is hopefully front loaded.

Whatever H is getting he's over paid.

Young players who will be guns get their payday about 22-23 - 28. Treloar being a great current example.

Hogan is 20, 22 in 2017, that's when his payday will come.

The club has done its numbers and thinks considering we have a young side we have a window to offer up big $$$$ and shake someone from the tree.

Thinking out loud, we missed on Danger, rather than target the best player at each club what about a second tier like a Steele Sidebottom(or someone similar).

do ya, well i feel sorry for you mate over there trying to pretend you know whats going on when the MCG is just a faraway land for you

Okay, so living closer to the MCG makes you a better judge of what's going on in footy.

Get a grip.

I think the big fish will rear its head soon enough. The AFL trade and free agency period starts after the grand final and if history is any guide, a number of names that haven't come up previously will be raised.

From our point of view I have no problem with the recruiting people playing their cards close to the chest. Good for them.

I just think back to the Dom Tyson trade.. not even a word leaked out until out of the blue on the day the deal was done it all caught us off guard.

Just had the weirdest sense of déjà vu, daz.

From around this time last year. When everyone was saying that and nothing happened.

Maybe this year will be different.

Dom Tyson was hardly a "Big Fish". The only deals that I could possibly imagine getting done are:

O'Meara - Potentially a flight risk. Gold Coast may believe that he won't get back to his best due to his knee, and cash in early. Given that they are losing 2 guns in Bennell and Dixon, they wouldnt want to lose another one, so talk of trading Prestia is ridiculous.

T. Mitchell - Swans need high draft pick for Mills, and have salary cap squeeze. Mitchell could be considered excess baggage, but would think that Carlton would be his preferred destination.

Not sure about him, gets a lot of the ball for little or no result.

I reckon in 3 years time we'll be talking about both Salem and Tyson as being A graders and Big Fish.

His 0.8 goal assist average would best at the club alongside Brayshaw.

Averages 27 disposals but also 6.5 tackles, ranked 8th in the league. 10.2 contested possession average is equal with Vince.

Against Geelong he had 33 disposals, 7 inside 50s and kicked 3 goals.

And he's still only 22 years old.

Mate, the bloke hasn't been cited in over 2 millennia.

Not interested in blokes who go missing for such long periods of time.

But would do wonders for Memberships

Apparently it's a very dangerous fish caught a couple of k's west of Fairhaven Surf Lifesaving Club.

presumably that danger was not in the sea but in a field

If getting less than one of something a game is 'the best' then maybe a different stat should be looked for.

Score Involvements are a good one - doesn't just have to be the last kick or handpass to someone who happens to kick straight.

Champion Data have that under lock and key, yes?

Purple - who else!

The likelihood is that there's not a great deal going on, and the media know even less, but Purple has turned "revving up the feral hordes" into an art form, particularly when it comes to having dees supporters frothing for trade rumours.

Sportsmate app has score involvements.

Hogan 6.2 a game

Jones 5.4

Garlett 5.2

Tyson 4.8

Gawn 4.8

Vince 4.4

Viney 4.4

Dawes 4.4

Watts 4.4

Pedersen 4.3

Everyone else is 4.0 or under.

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
