I was going to say the same thing, started typing, and then thought to myself, I have no idea how to even start spelling this blokes name.

The spelling is BABIJCZUK. I know because I taught him at Noble Park High. He was a great kid and a fine sportsman excelling in athletics e.g. the Decathlon. Unfairly blamed by some on this forum for players getting soft tissue injuries over which NO trainer has control.

Out: M. Jones, Newton (for that lazy chase of the Fremantle player running into an open goal), Spencer, N. Jones (injured)

In: JKH, White, Riley, Brayshaw

EDIT: Also whoever was meant to be on Danyle Pearce must be dropped.

That was a tough call on Newton Clint. He gave the Docker 30 metres start over a distance of 20 metres. Even Usain Bolt wouldn't have got near him.

And he was sprinting. The Freo player was just faster.

Bit of advice, Clint: don't listen to Dwayne Russell.

Isn't he a chess grandmaster??

Chestnut grandmaster.

Subtle difference.

One not lost on those suffering.

He doesn't run hard enough though Bobby, I watched him fairly closely yesterday he uses the ball fairly well but he lacks urgency and doesn't have the ability(or more to the point the want) to run hard and really push himself. I would say this could be a reason why he struggled to get a game in Ports side

On the incident with DeBoer people are talking about look at the clip again when Mayne marks that ball De boer goes hard to the open 50m, Newton is caught ball watching and jogging, they were even when Mayne marks and looks inside to go long and in board 50m

Hard to see a team this week that does not have at least two changes.

For me Brayshaw and Jamar are certain ins. I also think Harmes and Lumumba (if fit) will also return, while Dawesy and Tyson (if fit) could as well. Riley has been in form in VFL for quite a while and deserves a gig, but may miss out again as Roosy doesn't really rate him.

The good thing is that those who are left out get to play in a VFL final and I like our chances in that one against Essendon - provided we don't rest half the side.

As to the outs:

Spencer (concussion or VFL), Matt Jones (sadly his two out on fulls hurt, although he did have a real go), Newton (Etihad is s fast ground and I think everyone is now across what I said when Matthew Watson caught him v Carlton), Grimes (yes I know he played well, but he's Roosy's scapegoat when we lose this season), Oscar Mac (more a case of finding him a match up and if Dawesy comes back I can't see T-Mac being required to go forward. Dunn is sore too, so if he's out then Oscar would play), Nathan Jones (if ankle doesn't come up).

Normally I go on about match-ups but this is an exhibition game, so it doesn't really matter too much, however given T.Mac beat Cameron last time, he should start on him.

B: Jetta Dunn (or Oscar) Salem

HB: Cross T.Mac Lumumba

C: Stretch Vince Watts

HF: Howe Dawes Neal-Bullen

F: Garlett Hogan Brayshaw

Rucks: Gawn Viney N.Jones (if fit, otherwise Tyson or Riley)

Int: Garland, Jamar, Michie, Harmes (sub)

Yes, the call on Newton, did actually indicate to me about how our players regularly don't seem to be able to read the general play

more than one ball position ahead and consequently players further down the chain are in the clear. Now I know that this can be seen much easier on TV

but it must be replayed after the game wind down so do MFC players ............ or am I being too simplistic with this scenario.

Just drop one of the following out of Watts,Howe,Dawes,Dunn for our pass poor performances this may be a wake up call to the rest. Can we replace Nat Jones footballer with Nat Jones from the mad max movie? Anyway I would lke to see Nat play in another position, poor guy is getting tagged to pieces. We do have our constant in and outs footballers….. often referred to a merry go round

I didn't see the Freo game so can't say who should go out, but it sounds like Spencer got concussed so if that's the case I reckon he misses and Jamar comes in. Brayshaw and Harmes sound like they will be coming back as well and Dawes is available although I question whether it's worth playing him given how injury prone he is.

I'm going early on this but I have a feeling we will win or at the very least it will be a tight entertaining contest. From memory I think the last time we won a last round of the year was against Carlton in the Kruezer Cup, hardly a win worth mentioning, I would really really love for us to tackle the off season with a win behind our backs and smiles on the faces of fans and players. We got the jump on GWS early last time, our last few weeks of first quarters have been nothing short of disgraceful. That must be the challenge to the players; we started the year well, let's finish the year well.

White has been a standout for many weeks now, if consistency means anything and if your going to pluck an Oscar Mc Donald from obscurity then logic should prevail AND HE SHOULD GET A GAME THIS WEEK!

Oh wait a minute we are talking about the MFC

Thanks radar, not quite my point though.

We played Essendon "reserves" at start of season

Next year I hope that our obligatory Round 23 Etihad match against GWS/Adelaide (after a successful trading period) has the following line up:

B: Jetta. Frost. Dunn

HB: Salem. T. Mac O. Mac

C: Vince. Dangerfield. Tyson

R: Gawn. Trealoar. Viney

HF: Watts. Hogan Petracca

F: Garlett. Fitzy Kent

I: N. Jones, Brayshaw, Vanders, Trengrove (sub)

Fitzy, T. Mac, O. Mac and Frost's positions to be interchangeable after assessment post pre-season

Jamar has been a faithful servant but does his current Casey form justify a recall ?? It would be more purposeful to put a game into one of the younger fringe ruckmen.

Picket, I'm pleased to see you have a new hobby. You've progressed from Wines/Toumpas into an unabashed White fan. I hope you're right about White. And if he's ready, I'd like to see him play this weekend. Many players have been given a game or two at the end of on season and turned into regular - and sometimes even good - players the following season. Rivers, Grimes, Tom McDonald all played one or two games at the end of another wasted season and became regular players quickly after that.

Jamar had 4 possies on the weekend.

We are not some charity club that gifts games to players because they're retiring.

As unfortunate as it is for Jamar, the fact that he will most likely be playing his last game of AFL football for Casey is something that is his own issue. The ball was in his court as to whether or not he'd receive a recall this year and it's clear as day that he is past it.

He's been knocking down the door all year and in truth has been ahead of Spencer in most games for Casey. I doubt you'll find a player that's been in the emergencies for the seniors more than the Russian. He had a poor game for Casey, that is the truth and more than justifies not promoting him to the seniors for the last game of the year. But on season form and for the service he has provided to the club I believe you can justify a recall for a farewell game, if it truly is the end for him. As someone else said as well, ask him what he wants to do. He may well say that he feels more like a Casey player than a Melbourne player this year and given it's an elimination final for them he might want to see their finals series to the end.

I can't remember who it was but they chose that option rather than a farewell game.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
