Surprised this hadn't been started yet. I've noticed this year after a win some want to reward everyone with a new contract.

Grimes can go. Many will argue that Watts is only coming good after x amount of years but he's always had the skill, just needed to realise his potential. Grimes disposal/awareness is not up to it.

Salem can come back in. Would like Newton to get another chance before years end.

Curious on people's thoughts if we could only keep one of Howe/Garland next year who would if would be.

Depends on how it goes today.

North are very tall.

I don't think we can carry Grimes. Accountability is poor and disposal is woeful.

If Salem gets thru he'll be back in, and I wonder whether Jamar gets a game to try to double team Goldstein.

Feel sorry for Grimes but he is not part of our future IMO. He is courageous and a great bloke, but he is slow, unaware of players around him and best options, a poor disposal and has a bad habit of hanging on to the ball until he is tackled. He is just not the fit for modern footy, IMO.

6 goal win over the pies means minimal changes.

Michie makes sense as he was subbed and both Harmes and ANB showed enough to get another run.

Michie our for Salem, if he gets through today, would be the logical way to go.

Salem and Kent in for Grimes and Michie thanks.

We're nearly back to fielding our best 22 again.

Where's he playing today? Had forgotten about him, if he's good to go great.

Grimes is a yard off the pace. His disposal is so poor. I don't think he has a place anymore. Michie adds nothing. So I think both can be replaced.

I also am worried about Dom Tyson. Not suggesting we drop him. But his awareness and reluctance to release the ball and use the 1st option is costing us. He also does some pretty handy work. He must improve this aspect of his game though. He is constantly getting caught With the ball.

Garland is very unheralded. I thought he was great yesterday. I would keep him, but I really like the quiet, no frills type that just do their job and for the most part do it particularly well.

Personally I think Howe is gone, probably been made an offer we won't match. We'll save the money for extending the contract of a genuine gun.

No Jamar - ever.

Done.

No Grimes.

Gawn is in great form and Dawes does okay as a back up.

Kent has now missed the past two weeks after only playing a half for development league.. so highly doubt it

Harmes may get rested, I know he did well as the sun but if bring Salem in as the sub if fit.

Prob only change I'd make. Grimes whilst his kicking was t great at times still defends really well.

Michie deserves another game to show if he is up to it.

Maybe Newton to return if he plays well.

Assuming no injuries, IMO the only possible outs will be Michie and Grimes.

Michie was given a chance yesterday and patently failed to take it. I'm not against him getting another one, but I'm also not against dropping him if Salem, Kent, Toumpas or Newton are performing at Casey, as IMO each of them is a better player than Michie.

I liked parts of Grimes' game yesterday, but if Salem is ready to come back in that swap is almost irresistible.

Grimes had his worst game of the year yesterday, but I think he's been very good in the games he's played this year. Give him another crack.

Tyson is the interesting one for me - he seemed slow, lacked awareness and coughed up the ball too often but he did have 12 tackles so I suppose he's the type of guy you persist with until he finds his groove/fitness.

Michie didn't give us much but I'm 50/50 on him getting another go - wouldn't mind either way. We don't have a hell of a lot to lose so giving him some time to adjust to the higher level might be worthwhile.

It's important to rotate the sub, so I suspect Harmes will either come in to the 21 or be playing at Casey. This creates a bit of a conundrum with the sub because, as others have mentioned, the athletic running player seems to be the way to go in the sub position. Who else could fill that role?

I can't wait for the DL who wanted Vanders out last week to speak up with such conviction again. As I said last week, he quite clearly wasn't right against St Kilda and you could tell that from his first touch. He wasn't even VFL standard. So at what point do all the runs on the board that he had worked up go in his favour.

The same applies to the DL who keeps wanting Brayshaw rested. He got injured against WC and every week he's been regaining confidence and you could see it was back on the weekend. At no stage has he looked tired all season, so why would you rest him.

What's more annoying that Vanders and Brayshaw are primarily playing the high half forward role, which can be an absolute graveyard in a poor team and is a really tough baptism for a first year player, but one that I'm looking forward to seeing Petracca and Kent playing next year.

Then we have some donkey above trying to tell us Harmes may get rested. At what point in the last term did he look tired. He's already well rested after a light week. He ain't going anywhere.

The only player who is definitely out this week is Michie, although I'm sure Roosy will spend time deciding whether there's a match-up for Grimes (given that Crossy has been playing his role almost all season).

The only other question for Roosy is deciding if North's major size and having the No.1 ruckman in the comp, means we can again run solo with Gawn. It could backfire horrendously if he went down and they have Petrie, Brown and Waite up forward, so we can't afford to lose anyone tall.

Whilst I get the need for pace, I'd actually suggest that the inclusion for Michie may come down to either Fitzy or Jamar. Fitzy could pinch-hit in the ruck when Brown goes on the ball and allows Dunny to take Petrie and T-Mac to again lock horns with Waite. Jamar is a safer option if Roosy feels Goldstein must be negated.

Mitchie out, Spencer in is a possible. Give Gawn some rest against Goldy who is probably both stronger and fitter.

Would like to see Max go head to head with Goldy...really good for his development. He can then measure himself against the best.

That's a nice sentiment but Fitzy in for Grimes couldn't hurt if Gawn tires and we a few minutes of coverage. I still remember that fade-out against Minson last year that nearly cost us.

Why on earth do people want Harmes dropped!? Started as the sub came on and made an instant impact.

Baffling

Hopeful Viv gets another chance but it's a faint hope. He was quite good in this fixture last season.

If Salem makes it through today then straight swap for Grimes.

Rest players who need resting. Harmes is playing with energy and vigour.

The changes depend on who puts their hand up at Casey today. Michie and Grimes are the only ones at risk of losing their place, but I'd be happy for no change if nobody at Casey stands out.

I did suggest resting Brayshaw before or directly after the bye. He was consistently in our top players and highest tacklers, it was likely he'd be injured or become burnt out. Then he did have an injury v WC and has been in the lower half since.

I'm not saying I was right, but I don't think you can say it was a bad idea either. I wouldn't rest him now however.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
