Then I take it you think it was a good idea that we threw two young kids to the wolves as joint Captains?

Name for me the leaders we had at our club at that point, Mr Revisionist, and then name for me the long list of big bodied premiership players that were queuing to join melbourne. Then we might see who is slow on the uptake.

When did I say one word about Grimes or Trengove?

You're making things up and then attacking your figments of imagination.

You are being unfair Biff. In my experience, such a result is just as likely in an Asian Brothel. Daisycutter's input could be definitive in this instance.

Also, SWYL has frequent trips to the Philippines and of course OD goes to Bangkok for "dental work" . Plenty of input to come

I will see you in court

can you two old farts take it somewhere else?

The reality is that a bottom team to attract any player will always pay over... This occurred with Dawes but very harsh comments on the guy.. I doubt. Most forwards would struggle with the lack of quality ball coming .. Yes he's not a great overhead mark & his goal ratio is not great ... Just can't keep on clearing the decks gotta retain the fabric of a team & build around him ...

I never understood why we got him in the first place.

Even when he was at C'wood it was clear he was not a good mark. (And he's gotten worse.)

He was going to be a big lump who takes the oppo's best or second best defender, makes a contest and brings the ball to ground.

Pedo can do that. Even Ben Holland used to be able to do that.

Why pay such big bikkies for such a player? We could have had three for the price.

Really? Did you try really hard to think why we would want a big bodied premiership player when we had Grimes and Trengive as Captains. And once you have answered that question please list the other premiership players that were queuing to com eto melbourne during that period.

There's a good boy now...

Let me make the writing big for you. It says it all really That you don't know why we got Dawes in the first place and then go and criticise why we got him.

Dawes is in the team to provide continuity after the loss of Brad Miller.

'Something kind of like a CHF but without great nous, and making little contribution to actually attacking'.

With Dawes, he is great at climbing 3/4 of the way up a ladder, but struggles to go any further.

Last year he at least harassed and laid some big tackles, and was a bit of a presence up forward, even if he did have the rubber gloves on. This year, he has provided next to nothing. Horrible form and Pedo should now be in front of him.

So let me (try to) follow the confused logic ...

We felt bad about making Grimes and Trengove captains at such a young age so we thought we'd better get one of those big bodied premiership players that are always lining up at the doors of every other club but then didn't make him captain which meant that the inexperienced blokes were still captains.

Yes, I don't understand why we laid out big bikkies for Dawes of all players and I am criticising that we got him. So well done.

Probably recruited him cos hes a choirboy off the field.

Why would we ever recruit shady characters? I mean its not like Lance Franklin, Dustin Martin, Wayne Carey, Ben Cousins, Jordan Lewis, Allen Jakovich, Daniel Kerr, Dane Swan, Jason Akermanis etc etc could play footy

What annoys me about Dawes is how he thinks he has to run out every game right next to Nathan Jones as if he is some sort of co Captain. Let jonesy lead the side out FFS Dawesy!

That's the problem with footy these days. The actual game is just a small part of their week. That infuriates fans of clubs who've languished at the bottom for ages, when you don't hear enough about the importance of winning. You hear endless praise of players who are mature and train well such as Dawes, then no criticism for what they're meant to be paid to do

It's weird how he had some beastly good games last year coming off an injury, but this year he's had an injury-free preseason and is in absolutely horrendous form.

Just goes to show how poor he is at the moment. His first month last year he was fantastic.

Where the firetruck has that Dawes gone? The one we are stuck with at the moment makes Lucas Cook look like an inspired choice

And he went to the trouble of telling the media that due to his great pre season it will translate into a good year for him.

Do yourself a favour Dawesy. Shut your trap until you actually have some form behind you.

He needs to start pushing guys around and making his presence felt, he needs to get creative like Hogan as he should know by now he won't get it served up to him playing at Melbourne with Toumpas, bail and co playing in the midfield

It's not that creative, he does 2 among other things very well.

Leads up at the ball and works to make a contest.

Needs to be dropped as a warning to pick up his game, and find some form.

If it's good enough for Grimes and Watts it's good enough for Dawes.

It's fine to drop mark if you smash your knee into an opponent head/ back and you land on another one as you tap the ball left or right but he is just a clutz.

    DERAILMENT by KC from Casey

It wasn’t quite a trainwreck although at times, it sure looked like one, so I’ll settle for “derailment”.  The trip to Brighton Homes Arena in Springfield outside the back of Brisbane might not exactly be the same place where Homer Simpson’s family resides but, if you listened closely to the utterances of the Casey Demons fans both at the ground or watching via livestream, you could hear lots of groaning and plenty of expressions of “D'oh!” reverberating in the background, particular

TEN YEARS AFTER by Whispering Jack

Things have changed in the more than ten years since the West Coast Eagles decimated Melbourne by 93 points on the MCG early in the 2014 season. The two sides had not met at the home of football in the interim until yesterday when Melbourne won by a comfortable 54 points to remain in contention for this year’s finals series. Back in those days, the Demons were in the midst of their Great Depression but they have since tasted premiership glory and experienced a long enough period among

It’s game day and the Demons return to Melbourne to play the Eagles at the MCG for the first time in over a decade. A win keeps the Dees finals hopes alive whereas a loss will almost certainly slam the finals window shut.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well
