If I was the Suns, I would be keeping tabs in the Titles Office, to see if Rowell becomes the owner of land out Corio way.

I know that some people love to embrace the Geelong conspiracy theories, but is it really such a surprise that a wealthy individual who loves surfing and plays for Geelong would live near Bells Beach?

No, but the land would not have come cheap. And the players do make a lot of money but then pay agents, managers, tax....

How do you know that he doesn't have a big mortgage to pay down over the course of his career?

He may have. As I said, i was just wondering...

It is also possible that the rumours about Geelong are true.

Not really a conspiracy theory when it’s  in the media and Geelong players are commenting on it publicly.

PS: Geelong also have a lot of exposed form in this area, getting other clubs’ star players and generally on very favourable terms. Cameron, Dangerfield and Bailey Smith are just some who come to mind.

Taking the salary dump and draft pick from Gold Coast was just taking the p*ss though. Should have raised huge alarm bells but they seem to be an AFL HQ protected species.

He bought it for $4 million according to real estate sites. Really not that crazy an amount for an AFL player that appears in a lot of ads on top of player wage?

On that I would think that 100% of us would agree.

Yep, 6ha will set you back $4m near Bells Beach. This may even be the property.

So, just barely turned 24, played 100 games, has just missed an entire season, has some documented, uh, expensive habits. I mean, it can cost a lot to have someone regularly scrubbing your Wikipedia page of all sin.

Presumably he didn't pay with cash up front, so it is viable. As an investment it'll be great too, because a little birdy* told me that there are some statutory planning changes coming that will make a sudden surprising difference to the accessibility of the property and from the property to the beach, and that there will be some softening of the restrictions on building, too.

"Bailey Smith's Mixed Recreational Inn;  guaranteed to not be visited by Geelong Police until at least 2032."

That kind of trade is common place in the USA.

Clubs will try to trade players with bad contracts and attach a prospect with it just to get the salary off the books and then use that money more  constructively. Surprised it doesn’t happen more in the AFL.

Of course they are.

And if not, as ardent Melbourne supporters, it falls upon us to perpetuate them regardless.

Ps just wondering what they are,?

Is it a coincidence that every player Geelong nabs just happens to want a farm? Jeremy Cameron has said he never thought about having a farm but he’s happy to have one now. Dangerfield and whoever else it was from Geelong dangled a carrot in the form of a farm in front of Clarrie. How else are they managing to not blow the salary cap?

I think this mostly relates to the incredibly poor list management from Gold Coast. Geelong just took advantage.

They were paying Lukoisus close to 1mil per year. No wonder other clubs have picked their eyes out when they make decisions like this.

Tom McDonald has one.

What's the issue again?

That they give out land at pennies to the hectare to certain individuals…

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti
