I agree with your sentiment however it is misplaced in this instance - McCartney is clearly a leader in his field and would be a big loss if he were to leave. The same is not true for many of the players who have departed recently. Nor was it a view widely shared upon the departure of say, Brad Miller, from the coaching panel.

Yze was a blow. I think underrated in our memories because of his disappointing final year.

Collingwood fell from the finals series when we poached Neeld, as I recall. So he did give me some, all too brief, joy.

It would be difficult for the club to say anything at this stage which only adds to our collective nervousness.

People forget that Macca actually stepped down from the Senior Coach position at the Dogs whereas it's widely reported he was sacked. It would be (hypothetically) interesting to know how the Dogs would've performed under him this year given the plaudits he receives from most of his past players and coaches he's worked with.

That's what's disappointing me the most. His reputation in development is exemplary and which makes him a perfect fit at a crucial time for the MFC.

But, if he wants to have a the crack at a senior coach gig you can't begrudge a bloke of that.
