Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Excuse me?

I don't think he was handled poorly. He didn't set the forward line on fire and Roos tried to salvage something for him back. He played his best games back but makes mistakes and you can't have a HBF that makes mistakes - they are there to kick it so McDonald does that less.

So, yeah, I don't fell let down by the club...

I didn't say that...go back and read the post.

I wouldn't be surprised if he kicks 30 - 40 goals for them if he plays as a permanent forward.

I certainly won't enjoy seeing it.

Interesting point, over 5 seasons he averages 5.5 marks and 1.63 contested marks per game; which is better than Jack Reiwoldt (5.39 & 1.57). The marks per game would be inflated by playing in the backline. Playing as a forward, he will find his run at the ball blocked a lot more. He has kicked only 0.8 goals per game (deflated by playing in the backline). Maybe Collingwood have been reading money-ball.

I only really see Howe kicking most of his goals after marks; so I doubt he will get to the 30, but it will be interesting.

I am going to miss his spectacular marking, that's for sure.

But it seems that he thinks he is going to a club that has a better chance of making the finals next year, and he thinks he's the next Isaac Smith (or Nathan Buckley does).

We beat Collingwood the second time we played them this year, and the first time we played them, Cloke kicked 7 goals straight !!

And Isaac Smith is very fast and a superb kick - Jeremy has neither of those attributes.

I don't quite get it - perhaps he just wants to get out of the backline.

When you don't get the ball inside 50 that often, forwards don't get the easy goals to inflate their goal tally. Howe will play more as a lead up half forward at Collingwood, and Cloke and Moore will rotate through FF/CHF. I don't expect him to kick more than 30 goals playing that role.

That is a big ask to get Howe to play as an effective lead up forward. He couldn't or wouldn't do it with us. As Dermott Brereton said., he needs retraining in the seconds for a fair stint to force a change his ways.

Howe was injured in the preseason, so Hogan, Dawes and Pedersen were the only lead up forwards during match sim. Howe came straight back in as a backman so I doubt that he would have trained as a lead up forward under Roos.

I'd be curious to know how many times Hogan and Howe started together in the forward line? IMO, Howe was a better foil than Dawes.

yep, he wants out of the backline

he's just like a typical school kid, basically all he wants to do is take speccies and kick goals

Im married into a large mic family. 99% all filth.

Out of curiosity i pm'd those who are footy savvy and "congratulated" them on their acquisition.

Strangely none...NONE were gloating. Some rather perplexed at their clubs excitement. A couple even offered we got the better and Kennedy should prove a solid, if not remarkable, player.

I get ragged a lot by this lot as well as my Maggie mates. Not one , not a single one is mocking me.

Bizarre

That isn't really surprising.

How many Melbourne players are genuinely rated by non-Melbourne people?

Hogan yes. Brayshaw probably. McDonald in some circles. They admire Jones but few really rate him that highly.

Outside of that it's a blanket of ignorance and indifference. They are no doubt taking a wait and see approach with Howe.

No farewell from me.

Rivers was treated disgracefully by Neeld - while it was very sad to see him go I don't blame him and was happy to see him play some good footy at the Cats.

But Frawley - I did not enjoy seeing him get a premiership medal immediately at Hawthorn - no applause from me.

Now Howe - he like Frawley is now the "enemy" and I don't wish him well.

(loved Garland's comment that a Premiership medal would only be enjoyed if it was with Melb.)

Have to get some support on field for Hogan and tie him up long term before his pesky manager starts shopping him around (beware Freo with Pavlich going and them not getting McCarthy).

We will see howe Buckley rates his IDGAF attitude when the team is 3 goals down....

Over the time Howe was with us, not once did I hear him say he grew up barracking for the pies and buckley was his hero. I mean we all heard Judd and Buddy grew up as demons fans, ling was a geelong fan, heppell a dons fan, Tex a crows fan and so on.

Listening to Garry Lyon yesterday he was scathing on Howe. He said his manager has handled this all wrong, shopped Howe around for a ridiculous asking price that backfired because no club wanted to pay it then he ended up at collingwood because they told him he'd play in the one position. Gaz said he doesnt know how to play forward and in these times of footy he will again find himself playing in different positions.

Anyway he better not take mark of the year on us.

I did. I've always held it against him, even when i didn't want to.

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the
