AFL.com has an article with Buck's saying he has met with Mitch and he would love to have him on board and confirms that Mitch wants and needs a fresh start, doctor's orders apparently! Also confirms Hertier wants out so there could be a straight swap?

Just send him to the draft. MFC needs to make a stand. Compensation from Pies will be terrible anyway!

A fresh start? Didn't we give him that only a few years ago? Dick move, Mitch.

I am sick of hearing about the doctors orders. What a load of rubbish. Are we talking about a local GP, a family friend who is a dr or MC treating doctor?? I am in the medical field and "doctors orders" is a very misused term. Most treating doctors will say whatever their patient wants them to say ( within reason of course).

I don't want to sound like Martin Luther King but - I have a dream.

Mitch knows that his foot is stuffed.

He asked the MFC who do we hate, they said Collingwood,

He said lets set up a scam so that Collingwood think they can get me for stuff all.

They trade a player and the AFL gives a priority selection based on the unusual circumstances.

We get Harry Who and pick 4 in the draft (after the Frawley compensation)

Mitch does a pre season with the Pies and breaks down for good and gets another pay out.

How good would that be?

Wasn't this what was supposed to happen with Brock? You have a dream indeed...

Heard Buckley speaking on ABC radio prior to today's game. Said he and Mitch had met a couple of times and the Collingwood we're currently doing their 'due diligence' on him.

He really went out of his way to sell the whole 'Mitch has been advised that a new club/environment to give himself the best opportunity to recover' pitch.

As upset, frustrated and angry as I am at Mitch I do believe this approach to be the right one for him.

Nothing surer he's off the Pies.

Sorry 'fork' but I think it's a load of BS.

Sell is the right word, Buckley needs this to work or he a Sando will be yesterdays news.

So long as we get fair compensation I don't care what happens to Mitch, I think he has done a lot of harm to the issue of depression in society and as one that has and still has to deal with it my reaction to him is well beyond the words that I can use on this forum.

He's used the issue to his own ends.

His ex coach, Voss, stated he did the same thing at Lions. Voss advised his manager, the same dill, that Mitch should face his issues and try and resolve them not run away from them. He still hasn't learnt and possibly won't. We need to get some value for him. If they do not meet the expectations, bad luck send him to the draft.

Perhaps, but even with a broken leg you can go to three doctors and get three opinions.

IOW, Mitch can get (good) advice to support whatever cause of action he wants to follow.

Stand by the a) there's more going on here than we know about and b) Mitch and his manager want more money than what we were prepared to offer.

Its hard to stomach but perhaps after 2 years of frustrating, stop / start , potentially career ending rehab in the place...its true. Not to mention being around a club stuck in a death spiral at the bottom of the ladder, possibly the worst coach the AFL has ever seen and whose supporters saw you as the messiah when you couldn't even get out on the park. He may or may not make it back fully so as much as I hate to say it, I feel like I need to wish him well......a lot of that may depend on the comp we get from the AFL or Collingwood of course. If we get nothing or next to nothing its going to be hard to not have a very bitter taste.

The 'medical field'? An overused term if there ever was one. Does this qualify you to suggest that the advice of a medical professional is rubbish and should be ignored?

As someone has continues to battle with depression, I can tell you that one of the most pivotal decisions you will make during your recovery will be the environment in which you place yourself. That is a fact. So back in your box Jane and if your going to flout your opinion make sure it's informed.

2 years of us paying him how much? We respected his wishes and assisted his retirement. 8 months later he is fine and wants to play for the Pies. Bad luck buddy boy, in a closed world of AFL you are still contracted to MFC.

The fact is that if the move is something that Mitch has initiated then it shows a spectacular lack of integrity and character on his part. He may be within his rights to do so legally (and I hope there are questions being asked at the club about the revised contract we gave him), but ethically he's in the wrong in every way. He's basically forfeiting his Man Card and behaving like a self-centred child.

Well as someone with such vast experience surely you would recognise how pivotal the issue of environment is. So why on earth would you expect any different from Mitch to your other patients? Don't let you passion for football cloud you professional judgement Jane. I apologise for being rude but there are far too many people on here with no thought to the very real struggle many people, including Mitch, have with depression.

We don't know enough to make any judgements at this stage. For example, if MC did take advantage of being trained by us in the last few months and during that time planned a move elsewhere, whether under medical advice or not, then he deserves condemnation. If he only changed his mind because we (for whatever reason) gave him an unexpectedly unattractive offer, then it is harder to condemn him except on the issue of loyalty for past favours (there isn't any other type of loyalty these days). But we don't know much about that either.

So it has been 11 days and 1727 posts in this thread since GNF Damien Barrett 'broke' the big news

Didn't think the "purple" broke that news? Heard it elsewhere before the leech got it!

That deal has been reported for well over a week. Supposedly won't happen. Pies want to give nothing even though they are already giving nothing to start with!

What a narrow minded and twisted individual you are. To wish even more physical injury on a person who not only has endured some unfortunate injuries thus far, but also the emotional and mental trauma he has had to endure really sets you apart as a person. Have a look at yourself in the mirror. You know zero facts except what the media has said, yet that's your call to arms for more duress to a bloke.

Onto ignore for you, in some pretty significant company like osilek and the former mjt. You should feel proud.

Yes a bit low by all standards but I understand your thinking

As my mate said, he's a "country" type of person, whatever his supposed issues are

Pull your head in mate.

She only asked a question, based on her first hand knowledge of (part) of the subject.

She is not asking you not to feel sorry for yourself, or act the the expert on everything depressed.

No need to attack Jane mate. She merely gave her very informed opinion. None of us have real information on Mitch's current condition. This is a footy forum where there are 1001 views on any topic. I though both comments were valid, but only your's were aggressive.

It may be tactical to have him trained by us - to see what sort of shape he's in. May be his fitness is below par and that's why not much was offered.

I still think his behaviour and attitude stinks.

If you believe your first 2 sentences, how can you say his behaviour stinks? If we decided he wasn't in good shape etc and made a low offer, why shouldn't he see if another team might offer a better deal? We really don't know enough to say that he 'owed us' to take whatever offer we made. What if we haven't made a real offer at all but are keeping quiet to maximise compensation.

I don't feel sorry for myself in the slightest. What gave you that impression? A nurse blurting on about depression, without having experienced it, is rather like a travel agent recommending a holiday to a destination they've never been to.

I'm not acting the expert mate, merely asking the so-called one into line. As an experienced trained professional she knows she is going against the advice she would offer her very own patients.

Just cos you've experienced it doesn't give you the right to act like an A-hole fork!

Because there are layers to this story that can't be made clear on this forum.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
