The Trade/Draft Rumour Mill

Are Carlton not interested in anyone?

Yeah next years team will feature Cross, Chapman, Savage, Docherty, Pods, Thomas and a whole bunch of others at this rate.

Probably want to add a ruckman after getting Hampson go. Wonder if they'll get Jolly as well.

I would seriously entertain offering Carlton pick 2 for Mitch Robinson..

Would anyone else consider this a viable option??

I like his grunt, ability to kick a goal and most of all his mongrel!

Spends most of his day swivelling and kicking blindly because he lacks poise. Those players are a dime a dozen. Certainly not for Pick 2, and preferably not at all.

Okay... so I was jogging along the track by Warrandyte river yesterday afternoon and this bloke needed a hand getting his kayak out of the river. Gave him a hand and we got chatting, turns out he's a relative of Tom Rockliff's manager. Not sure if I should reveal this but Rockliff is apparently 'signed, sealed and delivered' to the Dees.

When I originally heard this rumour over a week ago I told my partner I would take her out to a fancy dinner if we obtain Tom Rockliff (I got her to repeat the name to me twice so she didn't forget it or got it confussed), it's looking like I might be up for a dinner - well let's hope so.

Thanks for the update Django! :)

We'd probably need to throw in pick 20 while we're at it.

Don't book a table mate, I was just trying to get the rumours flowing again. Let's say it's not 100% truth...

I'm wrapped we're not rushing into anything, but I fear this is going to be longest 3 weeks ever....

Its definitely a challenge. Bit like fishing isnt it. You bait your hook , set your line and see what swims by. There's patience required . Even when nibbles occur you have to show restraint. i think we have a clear direction as to what we want, and what we are prepared to deal for. I also dont think the trees have been shaken enough yet. The last week of trade AFTER free agency has closed should prove entertaining.

This guys sounds like exactly want we need and could be a great pick for our Sylvia compo if its a 2nd round pick or maybe even 3rd rd if still available.

Round 2

19. GWS - Jarman Impey (176cm, 78kg forward - Murray)

No doubt people know by now that I like my flashy small forwards/midfielders, and I tend to rate them a little higher than others. But, I don't think I'm overrating Jarman Impey at all. It's the opposite, I think he is being underrated by everyone else and will likely go somewhere around the 20-25 mark. That clever forward/fast midfielder role is becoming increasingly important, you just have to look at the impact of players like Walters and Motlop this year. And I think Jarman compares well to Steven Motlop from Geelong. He has the skills, the speed and the general agility. But he also quite a solid body, he isn't a lightly framed kid who'll take years to develop physically - he has shown this year the ability to win his own ball in the clearances, while losing none of his x-factor around goals. Might take him a little while to get his endurance up to where it needs to be, but that's about the only thing holding him back at the moment.

#23 Gold Coast – Jarman Impey (VIC – Fwd)

Height: 176cm, Weight: 78kg, DOB: 09/07/1995
Recruited from: Murray Bushranges
Style: Matthew Stokes (quicker)
Player comparison:
Range: 20-50
Profile: Damaging forward with some weapons at his disposal. Impey has some unique athletic gifts with some real pace and agility on him. In traffic Impey really stands out because he has more time and space than anyone else and can really step through traffic easily and then breakaway. Impey when given time and space also has some real ability to break the lines. He’s also go the typical crumbing skills and the smarts to know where the ball is going, rove at the bottom of the contest and position himself in the right spots every time. What most stands out with Impey is what he does with ball in hand. Impy is also an excellent user of the footy with his footskills particularly damaging. He has the ability to hit the scoreboard and can do so easily when within range. For a small he also has some excellent strength with his ability to mark overhead excellent for a small. As with so many forwards he can go cold as the team goes cold but when he is finding the ball he’ll do damage and make those touches meaningful ones.

Haha, nice analogy!

Can we just fast forward to that week? My wife always says I'm inpatient ;)

and what the f**k do we do in the mean time...just keep on losing because you and and others likes collecting skinny kids...ffs

We took Sylvia and McLean because they were ultra competitive contested ball monsters. How did that work out? As you said our midfield is third world inside and out. Get the best rounded player regardless of their current size. Just get it right.

We made a lot of very poor decisions. There's no evidence to suggest the current regime wont get their picks better.( i.e wont repeat past f ups)

And it didnt work out too well with them....because of the players they were ( at Melb )

Fwiw I don think we are overly concerned about necessarily getting any of the top ranked draftees and seem more focused on those in the 20-30 range.

Why I say this...the club's happy to trade away pick 2. It's not desperate to retain it.

Wasn't that impressed by Jarman Impey.

My lasting memory of him is seeing Matt Crouch almost kill him with his attack on the contest, completely fairly and going the ball.

Impey had to be helped off the field and didn't compete for the rest of that day.

Get rid of all of the stuff about skinny kids, poor recruiting in the past and personal vendettas, and you probably have about 15 pages relating to trade rumours.

In the nicest possible way, you're a dope if you think not drafting skinny kids will bring success earlier.

For every Ollie Wines who comes on the first year with a big body there is Luke Tapscott another 'big body' who fails just like the skinny kids.

Dyson Heppell, Fyfe, Whitfield, Brad Hill, Aaron Mullett, Steven Motlop, Toby Greene and my new favourite example Chad Wingard are all skinny kids.

You're overlooking our bad drafting and picking players, for their body size.

It's not the types of players we picked that were wrong, it were the players themselves. Therein lies the problem.

your right in a sense Demon land 7, but the culture is a massive part of our past failings. the team culture, the club culture, & the staff we picked in our past to train & to teach our kids.

... this all has been craap since from around 92-95ish to at least 2011.

the past 2 yrs IMO have been better but we don't have a true reflection yet of the work done individually of the last 2 season by Misson, or by the recent assistants.

.... regards "best available" from the national draft, those within a group of our desired players that best fit our needs, take best available.

IF we want instant effect, trade P2 for a mature player (21-24Yrs)plus a return pick.

I'd be happy to take a potential young star from the draft, & pay Big Money to get a couple of mature players, &/or delisted free agents... trade Sewell In...(Blease for Sewell) or (P54 + Jamar) or (Blease for Savage)

we need short-term A Grade seniority. pay for it.

I’d say Impey is the next best small forward/mid behind Billings and ahead of Kennedy Harris.

He’s got quite a solid build for given he’s 176cm. Looks like he doesn’t mind physicality either. 2nd round would be about right for him.

Don't forget that 2003 draft was the antithesis to the 2001 Superdraft. It was typical of Melbourne's luck that we had two picks inside the top 5. A year later the same 2 picks would have netted R Griffen and L Franklin although we probably would have stuffed that up

2003 Draft from pick 3 onwards was

Sylvia

Ray

McLean

Bradley

Tenace

Raf Clark

Trotter

R Dunn

Waters

Ryan Murphy

Stanton

Fergus Watts etc

There was some cream later on but the high picks were very average. Arguably our picks were as good as could have been

That's um....that's pretty wild man.

The way things are trackng I'll be happy if we just land A player. Even Cross is looking doubtful now.

I suppose we did land Roos. Hoping for a second lucky break would be asking a bit much.

It's Game Day and the Demons are once again faced with a classic 8 point game against a traditional rival on King's Birthday at the MCG. A famous victory will see them reclaim a place in the Top 8 whereas a loss will be another blow for their finals credentials.

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie
