Yep. Had a fairly serious virus and although he was back and playing in the month prior to selection for the carnival, it took him quite a while to fully recover and get back to his best so he didn't get the call up.

Still won the colts B&F though so I don't understand him not getting a run.

Thanks for confirming that , so chances are we might have picked him up at a bargain price.

I just don't get why people have this obsession with draft pick numbers....It doesn't matter at what pick a player comes to the team weather it's pick #2 or pick #56.....If you make it to the list there you are a chance to have a career

Some people think "If we get so and so with pick #56 he is a bargain" but pick #2 has to be a champion because it's pick#2.....

As soon as a player arrives at the club he is expected to perform at a required level.....I can't see the FD saying "Well he was a pick #60 so we don't have any expectations on him , and we can go easy on him.....Will Toumpas be a better player than Kent????....Who knows...It's up to the player and they all start equal......Just saying...

I get what you are saying, but the reason I don't have him playing many games in 2013 is not his draft number but his age and experience.

The fact is we have added ready made players Byrnes, Rodan, Gillies, Dawes, Pedersen, Jones, and Terlich, and Viney and Toumpas have had experience playing against men.

That isn't to say that he is competing against Pedersen for a spot, only that the ranks of our experienced players have been bolstered and I expect them to be given the opportunities. Form, attitude, and injury permitting.

Gonna be a headache listening to the footy on the radio now if we have both Jones's playing in the midfield.

Yeah it will. i was going to suggest they say m jones or n jones but that wouldn't improve it!

Im taking that you have never watched Kent play or in retrospect anyone in the draft play but watched his highlights and liked them because he has a nice long kick and is quite fast. Also a top 5 pick in the draft for some reason cannot make the WA national team and is drafted at pick 48. Have u ever seen him play?

Ready made doesn't mean he IS or WILL be an A grader. Only time will tell after a few pre seasons as mentioned.

But on the surface, yep....i'm putting my gonads on the line here. Hammer me in 2 to 3 seasons time if i'm wrong. And yes i've only seen the highlights real.....that was enough. I've seen enough footballers in my time to know when i see someone with serious talent, a good turn of speed but most importantly.....football smarts. He appears to know where to go and when to go. It's instinctive. And he can pin point a pass by foot and/or place it to the advantage of a team mate. A trait thats been sadly missing in most of our senior list the past few years. I'm sure he has a low lights real as well that we haven't seen. And i hear what your saying. As demonoids we should always tread with a good deal of caution when speculating on recruits. Especially given our injury list over the years!

But provided he stays injury free, and condition 1 is met, i'm putting him up there as a "why didn't we look at him in that draft ....should have been in the top 5" recruit in a few years time looking back. Definitely ahead of Toumpas anyway (wishing him all the best though!).

Cheers

As said in the industry: "You can make anyone look like a superstar with a 2 min highlight reel".

With that said, YES I think he looks good, YES he is a fantastic pick up at 48, but NO he is not a star nor is Toumpas or Viney. At this point we are dealing with nothing more than potential - "potential to be a star", and potential doesn't always translate at the AFL level (e.g Morton). Emotions aside, it's too early to call based on a highlight video.

Young Dean Kent hails from a small town called Clackline about 80kms east of Perth.

Yes it is a small town BUT with a population of approx 330. Now Todd Viney visited Clackline and reported on the MFC website that it consisted of quote" 6 houses and a post office." Now that's 50 plus people per house which is rather overcrowded indeed. Poor Dean will be able to spread his wings in Melbourne. Or should i say spread his cloak and arms? Sorry folks it's the heat that's getting to me. On a serious note it does sound like young Kent is keen to repay the Demons for having faith in him.

Bobby, FWIW I agree with you. Make it sound like he's from the red centre or something, Clackline is only 80km's away from Perth.

Jetta and Bennell would have travelled further to play Colts for Swan Districts.

If nothing else, Clackline is a ripping name for a town.

it was named back in the days of white only underwear.

A tourist passing through the suburb noticed Hawthorn colours on all the underwear in the settlement .

The word Skidmark had not been invented at the time so it was given its current nomenclature which has..........

stuck.

Merged to the Dean Kent thread. And a few posts from "Todd's Assessment" thread removed.

I've always remembered Clackline for a rickety old wooden bridge I had to negotiate on the way to Kalgoorlie. That was before they updated it with the current new concrete type.

In the future, I hope to relate (and I hope others do too) the town of Clackline with a great footballer named Dean Kent.

Think it was DK, when introduced by Todd Viney at the AGM he mentioned the boys refer to him as "Dean Viney" because TV likes the cut of his jib. Looking forward to seeing him in action during the NAB Cup.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
