I just really appreciate how we play physical and tough, but at the contest, no cheap shots and that you can't phase us with physicallity, it doesn't get in our head. Its like we're physical but totally professional and focused. Lewis may be one exception - he looses it from time to time.

I guess im saying its reassuring that we are no longer bullied, and yet not arrogant like some other clubs.

As a supporter, its one thing to loose a game, but for the players to play the 'brand', I can be proud of them, proud to be Melb.

Another point - i thought the dorks played for the free kick throughout the game - tried milking it. They certainly looked to exploit the below the knees interpretation and there was many a flop to the ground.

The Oliver free - sure he probably didn't resist the force, but there was plenty of momentum in it and straight into square of the back.

Further umpiring - so happy umps didnt get sucked into the Sicily flop v Melky mark in the last.

That 'Mmmelbourne...' chant across the whole stadium about 15-20 mins after the siren was amazing. Ethereal. Like the call a huge barbarian lost tribe, revealing themselves through the misty night urban jungle, having slayed the former Roman dynasty.

What an amazing experience. 2 weeks in a row with all the Dees faithful at the G, totally outnumbering the fans of 2 of the most successful teams of the past 10 years.

I actually feel we still have enormous upside. Hawks were well drilled last night and made it difficult for us to score in the first half. I don`t think WCE will tag and scrap like the Hawks did and it will be a more open game which will suit us.

How good to party hard with Dees fans in Richmond last night, I won`t have any voice left whatsoever if we keep winning. I got home at 3 and watched the last qtr replay, bed at 4am

WE can win the flag. 2 more wins! I believe we can do it. Can`t believe I`m saying it!!

Thought the Hawks played into our hands with their cross ground chip passes. Gave us plenty of time to set up defensively.

Luck was certainly on our side in that third quarter with their wayward kicking.

A great team effort but there is another gear to be found methinks.

Brayshaw getting  a hard tag shows he has well and truly arrived but it freed Viney to have a blinder.

Yep, Clarkson was outcoached.......

Id love to know now what the "joke" was that Roughead told the huddle just before the start?

My lip reading isn’t what it used to be but I think he said that Umpire Matthew Nichols was going to be fair and even handed tonight and wouldn’t favour the Hawks at all.

I think that we need to save the cheap shots until after we win the Flag. Don't want to upset the Karma machine.

We still have gears yet unseen.

I think this a really good point. We didnt play our best footy against either cats or hawks.

Against cats perfomances even accross the board but we didnt take chances.

Against hawks (as reflected in joeboy's analysis) performance was less even. But we took our chances at goal. But our field kicking was terrible.

If we put it all together we can win. A big factor will be how key players pull up. There will be some very sore players, not least maxy, viney, brayshaw and oliver. They were smashing maxy and oliver and there were some huge aeriel collisions, particularly in the second.

a great game, this teams intensity over the last 6 weeks or so has been amazing. Their tackling intensity, backing each other up has been first-rate.  Angus had a hard tag on him all night, but when we got the ball into his hands he really propelled us into attack. Trac really needs to fix his kicking, has a lovely long kick but some of his passes just gave the ball back to our opponents. If he can fix that part of his game he will really move up a grade.  A lot of players down on form and stats last night, it has been a long 6 weeks or so, week off or not. But we still won well. Another tough win which is great preparation for taking on the weagles next week with their very loud home crowd. Umpiring was not great last night, again good pre for what we can expect against the weagles.

I hope the team keeps focused and does not ahead of themselves as we have in the past. One week at a time, and make each one count.

Lastly Jetta, Viney, McDonald, Oliver and Gawndog were all truly awesome one again.

Perhaps it was something about skiiing, Range Rovers and cheese platters?

So funny I'll bet they're still laughing this morning !!

On Petracca and his field kicking.

3 times last night, just as he was about to kick, I screamed at the TV "no, don't lead there" and each time the Hawks chopped it off. I reckon he is choosing a spot and kicking to it and the forwards aren't reading him well. I am not defending him for the sake of it because in general terms I agree his finishing needs attention, but some of his "turnovers" last night appeared more to be about the forwards positioning and leading patterns and less about the quality of his kick.

Yes, he did make some clangers as well but his vision and setting up gives me goosebumps.

His set shot routine definitely needs some work.

He has been working hard on it. Just can't seem to get it right. Even at training he is inconsistent and he knows it, as he gets frustrated.

Could some Demonlanders give some analysis?

I think he hangs his head too far over the ball on his approach, he therefore tends to lay back when he kicks. If he would use a normal posture position with his head he could then drive over the ball with his follow through.  Also think his arms are too stiff through the elbows, so slight adjustments with the ball drop can't be made.

am surprised to hear people talking petraccas game up. He kicked a nice goal but he butchered about 4-5 very important and easy kicks inside 50 or in the forward half directly to a hawks player. the cost of doing that made him in the bottom 5 players for us in my opinion. Theyre so costly

He's still trying to do too much with some of his field kicking, he often wants to hit the incredible, 1% chance of pulling it off sort of kick, but it either doesn't work or the target isn't ready for it/good enough to make it work.

But I thought his defensive work was excellent yesterday and his leading and marking were an improvement.

Dead set, Spargo has played 17 games of which we have won 14. Am I misinterpreting cause and effect ?? If he gets dropped, I'm going down there to have a word with Goodwin.

Not sure if there's anything causative in it but don't worry, there's zero chance he gets dropped.

One of my favourite moments was when Gunston could have ran into an open goal but decided to be a smarty pants and snap the goal which HIT THE POST.

OH HOW I LAUGHED AND LAUGHED.

It's been covered a lot in the media but that was a massive turning point, only 15 points up at that stage, he misses, and we take it straight down the other end and goal.

Unfortunately my night was marred by racist remarks directed at Salem and Jetta by a group of Hawthorn fans in Q1. Left me feeling down for the remainder of the match, but it was a great win by the boys. Go Dees

Another week of excitement,  nerves, apprehension and nothing else in the world really matters. What a great ride are we getting.

How's Viney's will.  Loved his pressure at Gunston (when he was running into open goal and hit the post). Gunston couldn't step to open up the goal with his curling kick, great perceived pressure. We then go down town and score a running goal ourselves. The commentators saying it was one Gunston always kicks. I think it was Viney, determined, courageous and will power.

How sad for our AFL community.  They really have to stomp out hate on those levels.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to
