Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Watts Dropped from Port

This post isn't to gloat and i wish Watts well.

Just that watching him last week, even in a winning team, I thought I saw exactly what he delivered to MFC. No aggression, slipped tackles and falling over. Not surprised at this selection decison by Power.

Unfortunate for him, but early validation of MFC call last year.

All I get from this is, as you say, the vindication that the club made the right decision.  Even in a new environment, in a new state, he is still doing the same things that frustrated us for so many years.  There have been flashes of brilliance but too much of the inconsistency that has plagued his career.

It also means he may not be playing the following Friday night against us.

i think all of the watts lovers on this board need to fess up. There were hundreds of you. He has been soft as butter since he first came to the club and that's been his downfall. Not only did I say that Watts would be dropped at some point during his season with Port, I said that our recruiters would find a better player at pick 31 (Bailey Fritsch). Geez, how correct can one individual be and how deluded are the watts fans here. He is a fringe player at the very very best

I am a fan of Watts, understand he had to go and really wish he would do well at Port.

He looks lost out there, like he needs to get out of Dixon and Grey's way.  I wonder how Jack Trengove is going and if he is pushing for selection

I'm a fan for his loyalty and his love of the demons.

His fans and detractors alike acknowledged his sublime skills and his lack of intensity for the contest, inconsistency and for setting a poor example.  Nothing to fess up about there.

However, I do fess up to defending him against the vitriol thrown at him by his detractors on this board.

Anyway, we have heard it all before.  Perhaps the mods can merge this with the designated 'Jack Watts in 2018' thread.

The pattern has never changed for him.  He doesn't want it enough and there is no shame in that.  Not everyone is cut out for senior Afl football.

It's a brutal game.  And the game has changed sufficiently to make the type of role he can play well verging on redundant.

I've got nothing against him personally but I made some observations about him when he was first drafted and playing VFL.  I got an absolute pasting on here.

This is a needless post.  I've got no problem with anybody still 'loving' Jack Watts - they are well within their rights to do so.  Seeing Watts dropped is not an opportunity to sink the boots in, but a chance to reflect on the trade and understand that for us it was the right decision going forward.  Nothing more than that.

Seriously...do you want a bozo badge? You were  one of the most vocal during the trade period with your repetitive posting about how useless he is. I notice you only jump on here with constant negativity. Good for you for feeling vindicated. They guy has left the MFC but you wait for moments like this to gloat. Well done.

You just wouldn't trust him in a final because hes just not built for the high pressure intensity stuff.

He got showed out last week big time.

We still have a few at our club like Watts that go missing when pressure is on>

This is footy, sport and life.

Some make it, others don't, and even that can be subjective.

Some have the mental and physical attributes to maximize their talent and potential, others don't, sometimes they try, sometimes they just make other life decisions. Often, the goal or sport and individual and team success is just not as important as it it with others.

If you look at footy, most of those who make AFL lists either don't make it or never reach their potential.

From my observation, those who make it have more natural ability than others, but more importantly, have the will, desire and ambition to strive to reach their own mountain tops. They are obsessive, perhaps compulsive, but most importantly, single-minded in their preparation, training and standards. They are not distracted from their goal and are willing to sacrifice what the rest of us seek, enjoy or consider normal things, Above all, their natural instinct is competitive. You can't simply pick up this competitive instinct, its inbuilt or part of you.

In a sense, these ""successful"" people can be regarded as abnormal or unusual even anti-social, and the Jack Watt's of this world are like the rest of us. They are the normal ones.

He is a terrific person. When he has been up here in Qld he has all the time in the world to chat to you and fantastic with the Grand Kids. Wish him well but boy he must now know what is required to be a AFL player. Get the bloody ball Jack and use your body more. Big enough, fast enough and all the talent in world but just needs to see ball and get ball!

I wasn't negative during the trade period. i was OVER THE MOON! i was pretty happy with pick 31 to be honest.  It was only you guys like you that made it into a negative period saying Watts was going to make us pay and kick 50 goals etc. laughable. I think everyone needs to be reminded every now and then to call a spade and spade and not just like players because they are high picks and speak well in front of the media.

This is tongue in cheek right?

I liked him but he’s not in the seconds of my favourite Melbourne players, he’s not even on the list.

The pressure of the best clubs has ruled him obsolete and Ken hinkley has just ruled a line through his name

i feel sorry for him

his best years, by far, were under roos - and even then he got dropped to the vfl

he has the "distinction" of being dropped by every senior coach he's had now

all the talent in the world, but none of the desire required

Don't forget Andrew that he dropped himself as well. Never seen that before (or likely to again).

The thrust of my criticism of him being 'exited' was to do with the false narrative that with him leaving means the vanishing of what he represented - that certainly isn't the case just yet...

And my other objection was the minor aside that we would be losing what we lack - outside delivery, with that said Fritsch is providing as much of that that Jack ever provided.

I never thought he would excel anywhere else, so this doesn't surprise me.  I am sure they will give him another chance - they won't cut the cord just yet.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
