Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Getting ahead of ourselves.

After our opening round win last year Demonland was euphoria incarnate.

Next week the Demons collapsed against Essendon. Back to Downdumpland.

I noticed that the players acted calmly and coolly when the siren sounded yesterday. That's how we Demonlanders need to react. There is still a long way to go.

However, I feel very assured that we're heading very much in the right direction.

Oliver, Petracca and Hogan were stunning yesterday.

Ditto Gawn, Jones, Lewis, Garlett, Jetta and Uncle Tom. All players contributed yesterday.  Lots to like.

Let's now calmly deal with Carlton who, like Essendon, have also had the wood on us recently.

I don't think we've gotten ahead of ourselves at all.

We've thoroughly enjoyed the win, but nowhere have I seen supporters banging on about Top 4 or our chances of a flag.  We've spent too long down the bottom of the ladder to get ahead ourselves.  If anything, it's been pleasing to see most keep the lid on and mention that we need to back it up next week.

Too right. I believe that next week we will calmly, unemotionally and in a controlled fashion TOTALLY DESTROY THE BLUES!!!

Agree with all replies. maybe I'm just trying to contain my enthusiasm. It was a very special win.

Nothing wrong with being excited after a Round 1 win, though.  It's different to being enthusiastic and over the top about our chances this season.

I think what others have touched on is correct - yesterday felt different.  At no stage, once we got on top, could I see us giving the game away and we were in control for basically three quarters of footy.  For the first time in a long time I truly believe that most teams will not look forward to playing us, no matter where it is.

As Gorgoroth says, if we're 5-1 after 6 rounds then we can start looking a little further ahead.  Until then I'll be happy with the win but temper those expectations until we prove we can do it on a consistent basis.  Beating Carlton next week, a type of game we've struggled with recently, will be a good start.

I just hope the boys don't get ahead of themselves like has happened before and from the limited celebrations after the win hopefully this is the case

Next week is a massive test.

AS we walked down the concrete stairs yesterday from level 3. A few started the team song, it grew and grew (the acoustics were amazing). It became ear shattering loud, just amazing and made a few tingles down the spine.

It's ok to simply enjoy the win and gush over a few perlas (Hannan's goal, Petracca's celebration, Hogan's marking etc...). I am enjoying the feeling of a strong win.

But St. Kilda were absolutely horrible for 2 quarters so we don't have a strong measure of what we are like under sustained pressure. So there is nothing to get carried away about. The season is 1 game through and we have no patterns yet.

Round 5 and Round 8 are my first 2 places to stop and take stock. Lid firmly on until then.

They were horrible because we made them look horrible.  Don't forget that.  It was the same in the first quarter for about 10-15 minutes when their pressure and foot skills made us look 3 steps behind them.

What a pack of no confidence merchants.

we will wipe the ground with Carlton next Sunday.

This is not the playing group of 2005 - 2015.

This a new lot with the talent to win a lot of games.

lift your eyes guys the horizon is brilliant.

So long as our players' and coaches keep it all in perspective, i couldn't care less how far ahead or behind we get on here.

They can influence the outcome, they control their mindset, not us mere supporters.

Actually have not seen a frame Wb.

I was at the GP.

Heard the last quarter on the radio. We are going to lose some games this year but we will win more than last year and there will be some blow outs where we kick big scores against a couple of sides.

I have had it watching a VFL standard list. The current one is a good young list that is capable of beating any team.

We won't beat everyone but we will build this year on last and look out 2019.

Jordan Lewis:

“We understand it’s round one and it’s not a final or Grand Final, so we enjoy the win for an hour or two, but then we review the game like we always do and we try to keep that neutral emotion throughout the week.

“We understand we’ve got a game next week and it’s nice to beat St Kilda, because we haven’t beaten them for a long time, but it’s just another win.”

Spot on Old, we are a different side this year and they will not throw next weeks game away, St Kilda thought we were the same team and we taught them a lesson. There are a few sides who have performed better than expected in the first round but Carlton wasn't one of them.

For the long suffering fans I think there's genuine reason to excited but as a few have said I don't think many fans are going overboard.

Ultimately our attitudes should have no baring on the players, it's down to them and these games (ie winning against a quality team and the now coming up against weaker opposition) are the ones we have made some fatal errors in in the past.

Lewis will be important through this week as will our leaders Jonesy and Viney to drill into the boys this is a first battle won in a larger war.

I remember being extremely nervous going into the bombers game last year, our attitude was poor everywhere. As much as I would love a demolition job of Carlton I'll also be happy with a calm and comfortable win.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
