Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

DEMONLAND PLAYER OF THE YEAR - Round 3

Demonland

Recommended Posts

6 - Gawn - I know there were a few free against and Goldstein had a great game, but he destroyed Goldy in the ruck and bar the first quarter was the best ruck all day.
5 - Viney - Just taking his game to the next level. With Jones well held, it was Viney who was the heart and sole.
4 - Vince - The 10 clearances helped, the possessions helped, but he is still suiting up week in week out really impacting the contest
3 - Oliver - 7 clearances and stood up when we were being beaten in the first quarter. We have a beauty on our hands here.
2 - Jetta - really felt that his tackles, rebounds of of 50, and 1%'s really had a big role in the close result.
1 - Hogan - good response after a media storm this week.

6.Viney - Has become our key indicator - no Viney no Melbourne.

5. Gawn - Took the next step to challenging for AA ruckman

4. Oliver - tough little bastard. Given time Oliver and Viney will cause some serious injuries.

3. Hogan. Great comeback and some very creative work.

2.Jetta - Busted a gut. Courageous. Great anticipation.

1.Henrietta. - He attacks the contest and does terrific one percenters.

6 - Gawn (got it going our way all day - 63 taps in a dominant rucking performance)

5 - Viney (back to his best)

4 - Vince (extremely solid all day)

3 - Oliver (looks right at home)

2 - Hogan (Roos involving him in the play early gets him going)

1 - Harmes (14 touches and 10 tackles - a good game)

Thought Jetta, Lumumba & Salem made solid contributions and Kent finished well.

6 - Lumumba.  Gave great drive from the back half and set up plays.  His best game as a Demon imo!

5- Viney. Inspirational and fearless.  Thriving as a leader.

4 - Gawn.  The architect of our dominance around stoppages.

3 - Vince.  Great clearance work, but disposal not quite up to his usual high standard

2 - Jetta.   Gutsy and composed, and played within his limits (as he always does).  Spoiled by a couple of frees against.

1 - Hogan.  Very good team game.  Kicked goals himself and contributed to several others.

Very unlucky:  Oliver.  Great around stoppages and never intimidated.  Outstanding for an 18 yo with three games under his belt.

6. Viney - was the clear most influential midfielder across four quarters for mine,  You can just count on him to bust a gut - usually it's in heavy traffic but his involvement in the 'slingshot' (involving Jetta at HB and Hogan in the middle) that resulted in himself getting the goal was a bloody outstanding piece of 'outside' work.  Brilliant.
5. Gawn - not often you'd say the second best player was someone whose opponent kicks 5 goals, but his work in the ruck was the chief reason for our competitiveness.  Just love the way he has come on this year.
4. Hogan - worked hard, and was involved from start to finish.  A very welcome return to form.
3. Vince - more on sheer volume of involvement.  Did an awful lot of blindly hoofing forward with mixed results - a bit more careful use of the footy would have had me ranking him higher, but he got it heaps which is half the battle.
2. Lumumba - had a horrible q1 (with plenty of friends) to the point where I'd already penned my "changes for next week" comment in my head at quarter time.  Really lifted after that in terms of contested work.  His kamikaze approach to getting through traffic is enough to give one a coronary, but it turned out to be effective later in the game when the wind died down a bit.
1. Oliver - said it before, but he's the best in traffic player I've seen.  His handballs are exceptionally clean, and he always seems to instinctively get in the right place.  Loved his work in front of goals today.  Influential.

Players I couldn't find room in the votes for but wanted to comment positively on:

Salem - has a toughness that belies his baby-faced appearance, and was probably our most consistent user of the ball. Would have been close to best on in the very disappointing first quarter
Watts - getting too much criticism for that stuffed pass to Hogan when he should have kicked the goal IMO.  He was not the only one to make a terrible mistake in the last quarter - Kent's pass to a North defender while running towards goal was another, as was Bugg's pass to Stretch (when Watts was in the clear to the other side).  Watts also dropped a couple of vital marks, but I think the thing that stood out was zero failed attempts at going, and a number of seriously tough efforts that resulted in goals.  I thought it was another solid game, was just a shame about that blunder.
Kent - had a quiet first half, but came to life in the second half. Too large a gap between best and worst at this stage.
Jetta - seems to play at the same level every week.  Just such a dependabe player.  Jeez, I'm still filthy about that high tackle on Goldstein that was paid against him.
Harmes - as I said in the post-match thread, some polish in traffic is the only stops him from being a permanent fixture in the 22 - the odd fluffed kick or fumble etc, but he marks, he attacks and he tackles.  I thought he was impressive today.

6 Gawn - 63 hitouts against the best ruckman in the game. Amazing!
5 Viney - his last quarter almost got us over the line
4 Lumumba - possibly his best game for the club. Don't think he got caught at all today.
3 Vince - was always around when we needed him
2 Oliver - clearance machine!
1 Kent - would have got the 6 votes if he snatched those other 2 goals

6. Oliver (5.05) - the first score of any MFC player above 5 this year on my system with a score of 5.05 in only his 3rd game. Vince went close last week with 4.98. Well done son!!

5. Viney (4.45)

4. Hogan (4.43)

3. Tyson (3.95)

2. Vince (3.93)

1. Dunn! (3.75) - welcome back Dunny!

*Have only seen the most of the 3rd Quarter plus highlights. Normally wouldn't but basing this week's votes mostly on my comparative ranking system in order to meet the deadline. Yep it's a pretty tacky method but hey some of us can't afford Foxtel or a trip to Tassie! :P

P.S. Last week we only had five players get a score of 3 or more. This week we had 12. Harmes lead the tackle count with 10! Viney the most inside 50s with 8. Vince & Viney both with 10 clearances. Oliver & Gawn next with 7 a piece.

Apologies to Gawn - no hit outs to advantage stats in that mix.

What's your system. I have my own (which I don't pay much attention to these days), so I'm always interested in someone else's.

I'm not voting, having not yet seen the game, but I just wanted to comment on how totally lacking in negativity has been the voting above, indicating that today was very positive for the club, despite the 'loss'. Often even our wins have had a negative cast in the votes thread. We seem to have been a real 2016 AFL football team today.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
