Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Sicily's game of 13 marks (all unconstested) with 20 kicks sideways or backwards, was one of the most ineffectual games I can recall and yet despite having less possessions and nowhere near the influence on the game as Petracca (who had 11 score involvements), Silicy had an AFL Fantasy score of 116 to Trac's 109. AFL Fantasy is broken whatever the hell that is.

AFL fantasy is purely based off stats. i.e 3 points for a kick, 3 for a mark, 2 for a handball etc.

Supercoach is the one that adds additional scoring for effective disposal, score assists etc.

Petracca has a SC score of 146 compared to Sicily 123, which shows he was more effective in the game.

thanks to those who commented. It seems the line is marked at the back of the padding, so no goal for Bennie.

That seems to be the case.  But doesn't that mean that balls touched at a height higher than the padding would not be deemed 'touched' till they were some (padding) distance beyond the goal post -  which would be impossible to judge.  So I think there must be one rule for balls going through below the top of the padding and another for higher balls????

I thought Tmac was pretty good in both games. Are we agreed upon this?

Certainly seems to  be much quicker than his recent fwd sojourns. And more confident.

Of we can get back to close to what a defender he used to be and have Petty play fwd often then our seasons looking very good.

The one thing I like about Petty forward is his follow up ground work and pressure.

Another 4 points and I enjoyed watching the game over breakfast. Love the fact that we have a good long winning streak against The Hawks. May it go on for much longer.

That first quarter was just bizarro. The last thing Sam Mitchell must have said to them before the bounce was "keep possession at all costs." What he forgot to add was "Try to get it inside 50 and score."

ANB had a good game and was excellent in the first in particular. Overall the team stood up well and made the necessary adjustments a required when we lost May and then Lever. I was one that was baffled by the Petty selection but I have to say that given the injuries, it was inspired. I do wonder what sort of game Petty would have had if he had been left in the forward structure for the whole game. Leading and marking look ok but the kicking was not much chop. With 20/20 hindsight, giving him this game against the Hawks was the right thing to do. A soft game to bring him up to speed before the week and two games in Adelaide, The City that Time Forgot.

Big, big game from Petracca and the pressure and support of the rest of the midfield was exactly what was required.

Hard not to be impressed by the Melbourne team game throughout and in particular during the second half after losing may and Lever, our twin defensive pillars. shuffled the pack, made the adjustments and business as usual. very impressive even if we were playing a team that will be in the bottom 4 come the end of H&A.

Good to see Fristch getting his kicking boots back on.

Anyway... onwards and upwards Dees!

I liked Petracca's comment after the game that the boys were enjoying their footy. during the Sydney game I recall thinking that they did not look like they were enjoying it. Not just because of the scores, the whole way through that game they seemed to be out of sorts.

So we roll on to two Adelaide games with a 5 day break. It will be tough. I would like to think we have the team and the attitude to run out winners in both..... that is what the heart says. head is a little more realistic and would take 1 out of the two, Port the preferred win for me.

I went to the game and just watched the replay. Very enjoyable game to watch from both perspectives.

This is the most connected I've seen this team since 2021. The genuine care and joy they had for one another. Clarry especially going to team mates at every opportunity for encouragement was extremely pleasing to see. To see the buy in from him to the club and his team mates from where he was last year is just brilliant. He was also the first player to get stuck in to the Hawks when they'd done something to one of his players. Loved seeing him get into two players after they flattened Max in a marking contest and actually drag both off the mark (deliberately) to give Max a play on opportunity.

Its a long season but if they keep backing each other and celebrating the little things like this, the spoils, the pressure acts, bodying the ball, the second/third efforts, the setting up for each other. If they can do this regardless of being up or down its going to resonate through the whole group to galvanise for a big season ahead.

Pertracca's defensive spoil, BBB and T Mac back and contributing, as well as Marty Hore and there is a good vibe about the team at the moment.  Early days, but good signs I agree.

I also wouldn't mind betting that Jake Melksham is having a real influence on ouŕ forwards and forward entry.  Our new prefered game style forward of centre taking the game on a bit more and lots of flat low passes into 50 has got him written all over it.  Would be amazing if he could make it back for a few games at the back end, but regardless, I get the impression that he's being a great contributor with his mentoring and coaching.

Have really liked Kossies games since he's been back.  Hitting the scoreboard regularly, but also been really busy and impactful all around the ground.  If we'd had him against Sydney, it might have got us over the line.  Anyways, will be good to see if he can maintain this kind of form through the season - if so, I think he might have come of age and taken that next step up to being an elite of the comp, rather than soley a freakish talent who can turn a game, but perhaps not to be relied upon to do so every week.

Have also been super impressed with Winsor who seems to be getting better and more confident every week.  In particular, I noticed that against Hawthorn in particular, he was landing and sticking tackles alot better, where in some previous occations he was chasing players down, but being brushed asides too easily.  Is great to have another nippy player to hassle, harass and put both real and implied pressure on the oppositions ball carier around the ground when we are not in possession.  And just love the way he glides through and around traffic like opposition players are just standing still.

And what a great get Billings has turned out to be so far.  Wasn't really sure if he was going to be a find or a bust, but on the evidence to date, he's been a really schrude pickup.

Windsor didn't register a tackle per the stats.

Might be due to the definition of a tackle.

He certainly tackled often. Maybe they didn't stop the player

I suspect so. With time he’ll get stronger and more of his tackles will stick.

His willingness to two-way run is fantastic though.

Only got to watch reply yesterday. Good to see team continually to lower eyes with I50 entries and a lot of selfless plays i.e Brown lining up for goal then passes to Chin in better position, and defence acts I.e Petracca saving a goal, Fritsch stopping Hawks ball movement with a spoil on the wing. Hawks look stifled with their ball movement and great to see when May and Lever were out we still restricted them.to 38 points. I feel that we have improved a lot in centre clearances too, amazing seeing a multiple clean centre clearances and kick straight down the guts to hit a target for a goal. Good signs early in the season.

That was great play from Brown, super smart. His long run up actually adds to the space in front for others to run into. If not a set play already, it should be from now on!

You're right.  He's not a Wizard.  More like a goblin.

Have to say I liked Gary Lyon making that point on On the Couch, to get a title like "the Wizard" you gotta earn it through doing things that no one else in the comp can do. Right now he's no more of a wizard than Windsor.

Lyon made the point softly saying, "he will be an exciting player to watch as he grows, but he is no wizard".

May I?...

Petty the exception: 'You're a Wizard, Harry'.

Of course - and here's hoping! - he may also earn it in due course (with us, please!)

Mitchell and the Hawks were absolutely physically targeting our players in ways that were absolutely not legal. I get it, rough them up and be physical but it just looks so pathetic targeting players to hurt them.

I was thinking the same, that's the way the old Hawthorn played, when Mitchell was in the side, it's not going to win a flag. It was as if they were trying to show the fans that they are a "hard it side" when in reality they are just snipers and target players when they are vulnerable. That hit on Max when he had disposed of the ball should have been reportable, but it wasn't, probably because Max got up.

To be fair I don't think Watson calls himself the Wizard. But those [censored] Hawk supporters & commentators doing it should be pointed out

It was Cal Twomey who christened him with the cringe nickname through his junior career.

All fun and games until the added external pressure comes which already has through the media.

There are only two wizards that exist, my childhood hero in Jeffrey ' The Wizard' Farmer and my guardian angel in Warrick 'The Wiz' Capper.

How do Demon fans feel about Daniel Turner being given Michael Roach's famous nickname of "Disco"?

There have been many, many incidences of two or more players having the same nickname.

It's really not anything worth being angry or upset about IMO.

Yeah look I did think of him but it was so short lived...

Farmer gave me so much delight during those early Daniher years. I remember I was in tear when I found put he was officially off to Freo.

During a training session in January he said he’s hoping to return at the back end of the season. Yesterday he said the back half of the season. I said ‘So, maybe after our bye?’ He said, ‘yeah, but possibly before the bye.’

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
