Thx @layzie

Well written article on the broader significance of this issue and the varying perspectives different stakeholders take.

However, what’s with the final paragraph? “Crying shame if Maynard gets rubbed out”?!!!

Did Cornes hack the Guradian?

Concussion and CTE is the only subject where I don't feel that I have to seek a former player's opinion. It means something yes, but they aren't Robinson Crusoe on this matter.

I'd rather listen to health experts, like Doctors and Physicians not former players, that's for sure.

100% and I really wish these kinds of people were put front and centre when it comes to anything like this or the Alir and Jones incident.

Funny, I thought the same thing - Horn, whom I rate as a journalist, left me a little gobsmacked with that last bit.

Interesting article though at the end, he sits on the fence and mentions all the sentimental [censored] about the possibility of Maynard missing playing in a GF.

Brilliant article.

Love this:

' “It’s understood Maynard is genuinely apologetic,” SEN reported. Apologetic for what, exactly? '

This really pxxxxx me off too, is the fact that we all know about Maynard's visit to Gus. He or one of his tribe told the media!

He wanted to make sure it was known. What a fake.

I think it's a very well written article. Yeah it's an interesting finish to the article but I like how he's prepared to put his personal opinion of what should happen aside for the greater good. I can't say for sure if it's the act of a thug but I do believe he needs to be responsible.

I really appreciated the part where he said that commenting on the incident needed some restraint and nuance. Couldn't agree more, things reached fever pitch everywhere and it didn't help.

Damien Barrett on the AFL website this morning with Matthew Lloyd says ‘we know Angus Brayshaw will miss this weekend for other reasons’.

They don’t even want to say the word concussion. This is becoming laughable.

Its cult like.

Yeah it’s on Access All Areas. They are talking about who will come in and go out and he literally says ‘we know Angus Brayshaw will miss for other reasons’.

The irony (hypocrisy) by Ch 7 playing the CTE show featuring Platten while all their AFL media pundits bow before the Pie supporter base is astounding for its brazenness. Special mention for weak boy Barrett.

The classic 'last guy picked for the team in the schoolyard' who is now desperate to be 'in with the cool kids'.

Maynard is very lucky he hasn’t been charged with intentional, severe impact and high contact.

I believe that he intended the bump given the amount of time it took him to reach Gus.

His first action may have been to spoil but he then chose to bump. That constitutes intent in my books.

Graded that way he’d be on minimum 4 weeks.

I haven't heard this mentioned yet, but Maynard's action wasn't even 'team-first! He opted to give away a free downfield that would result in an almost certain goal when his team had already established momentum. Irrespective of whether his actions ended in serious or minimal contact, he was hell-bent on making front on contact after the ball had been disposed of, which was always going to be a downfield free. A selfish and unnecessary action!

I see I have no support on this thread so I shall desist. I hope that the Tribunal sees the footage from all angles. As a retired lawyer, I think that must absolve Maynard from any penalty. But, as has been pointed out by deep thinkers on this thread, the Tribunal's decision may be political - not fair to player Maynard but politically correct.

Regards to all and Go Dees,

Rollo

But you don't desist. You keep saying the same thing - obviously a very deep thinker.

In future if Maynard gets off:

- every player can launch themselves late into the air to smother

- not be anywhere near the ball

- not have time to turn their body

- hit the player in the head

- and take out opposition player

- no punishment

- as it’s a footy act!

A joke, total BS!!

At first I thought that he would get off but thinking more about it over the last few days I believe he will get 3-4 weeks. Your points above are correct. it cannot be allowed to be approved as a football act. The ramifications of that would be disastrous

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had
