No, I think he'll get off. I've already stated that. Just look at Cripps last year. The letter of the law should have seen him cop 3+ weeks, but he gets off and wins a Brownlow.

If we were being balanced, we'd have the rules up and assess that play against those said rules.

Now the grading can either be classed as intentional or careless. Let's say it was careless.  There are then four impact grades. 1) severe impact (high is 3+ matches). 2) high impact (high is 2 matches). 3) medium impact (1 match). 4) low impact (fine).

In what world was that low impact? 

As I say, to the letter of the law, he must cop at least 1 week.

It's all well and good for you to feel something, and you like neggy thoughts and that's lovely, but when you're talking about something that you're clearly not across, there has to be a point where you put your hand and say you've got it wrong.

Maynard should absolutely go for this, and you should absolutely put your hand up and say you're writing twaddle, but neither will happen.

Contact was unavoidable. That much is clear.   He could have used his arms outstretched to brace.   If I pushed you over from behind. In that split second you fall to the floor your mind can make up whether you're going to tuck in your arms and lead with your shoulder into the deck. Or outstretch your arms.  I get it's a contact sport and split second but for sure he can handle that differently

Agree that he was in the air and couldn't have avoided Gus.

However, he had the duty of care. He could have easily remained front on and lowered his arms onto Gus's shoulders or onto Gus's chest to limit the inevitable impact. Instead, he deliberately chose to turn his shoulder and ram it into Gus's head.  He made a bad choice and deserves to be suspended. I'd give him 6 weeks!

Careless High Contact High Impact. Based on the criteria that the AFL has set up for these situations, it is 2 weeks.... simples.

We'll be right.  I reckon we still win the whole thing.  +22 on expected score tonight.  In every way but the most important we won tonight.  We won't go out in straight sets - we'll take whichever of Carlton or Sydney win tomorrow comfortably.

And from there an interstate prelim holds no fears.  As recently as 2020 the side that lost the qualifying final won the flag.  Happened in 2015 as well.  Even the great Brisbane side of 2003 did it that way too. 

On tonight's game, we were fantastic for three quarters.  We played a prime mover down and our accuracy was horrible.  Gawn played a game for the ages.  Most of the others can (and will) play better.  Stay optimistic, the best is still to come.  And it'll be a flag won the hard way and they are always the most cherished!

We controlled the game for longer than they did just could not convert. Joel Smith was our most dangerous forward and props to him but that's not gonna win you a flag.

In isolation those are poor misses. The bigger story is we dominate key metrics but get spooked on the big stage. I'm not blaming Goodwin, but we always seem to have the same conversations after these losses. You can't win them all but tonight is up there with our loss last year against them in round 20 I think it was, and the Brisbane SF loss. Just filthy losses that you need to quickly move on from, but also can't because they are such bad games to lose. But we are like the fourth oldest team in the league now and we are badly wasting this opportunity. 

Do we really think Hill, Elliot, McStay and Cox/Cameron, and that spud Micock, are better than Fritsch, JVR, Pickett, ANB... my point being, you don't need a superstar to be winning you games. Collingwood base their game on turnovers and RUN RUN RUN to space. Our gameplan is... hope for a stoppage, hope we win the stoppage, take 2-3 seconds too long so that the opposition ruckman gets back, and then kick a suicide ball to a pack of 12 players. 

We grind teams down, which is great, but we never really looked like winning tonight. Maybe we've peaked but we badly need to open our game up a bit and back in our forwards into space. If we play Carlton next week it is going to be painful to watch. We'll be lucky to score 5 goals.

Will Fritsch be Ok in time though? He's clearly hampered by his foot injury.

That smother attempt looked very unusual to me and it looked like he was trying to make contact with Brayshaw. The media have rolled out the football incident pretty quick so I expect this doesn’t even get cited. 

Was such a bloody let down tonight. Fair to say we outplayed them for most of the night but just couldn’t make it work. 

Im not in the mood to pot players atm but it’s fair to say we really lack composure with the ball and that is really killing us. 

I can’t see us beating Carlton either so a straight sets exit is looming once again.

Nobody is arguing this action. It’s when he decides to turn his shoulder instead of just blocking with his hands or twisting to avoid serious contact that’s the problem.

He’s not the reason we lost, but Jack Viney will be disappointed with himself tonight. 0 clearances. 1 tackle. Is that the first game in his career where he hasn’t had a clearance? He’s usually a frothing maniac when the pressure is on. Tonight was a huge let down when we needed leaders to steady us. Hope he has a huge game next week.

If he maintains this position all the way through then it's a straight up head clash between the two.

I think he's tried to brace himself last second the moment he realise he didn't smother ths ball and had forward momentum towards Gus.
