Any word on why Petty was subbed off. Looked sore on 1 or 2 occasions after clashes.

If he’s out does Tomo come in?

Who matches up who on their forwards?

Goody said he copped a knock to the ribs. They’re hopeful he will be right but of course a scan will reveal all.
If he’s out Tomlinson must play. Lions have a plethora of dangerous talls and we absolutely cannot lose Lever’s intercept game but making him play on one of them.

JVR comes in for either Gawn or Grundy. 2 half ruckman/ half forwards is not what the team need. We need a bonafide forward and JVR can provide ruck assistance.

Ruck assistance up forward for sure.

JVR a critical 'IN' from here If we're to perform well in Sept.

We continue to play Grundy for significant minutes in third quarters.  Unfortunately this allows the oppo to dominate the CBs and swing the momentum back their way.

Goody & Co. need to review this strat.

Max starting CBs from the opening bounce and playing most of the time there in third quarters is a must if we're to have a chance against the really in form clubs imv.

Injuries.  Fritsch. Hibbo. Clarry.
Doubtful.  Petty.

Worries. Brown couldn’t move in 2nd half and was basically walking in the last quarter.  (JVR to replace)

Form. Kozzzy.  Is there other concerns? Looking disinterested or not moving to win the footy. Happy to do a chase and tackle.  Is this the same player from round 1 this year. He’ll stay in but is a worry. He need his goal scoring and excitement to create opportunities.
Spargo.  Goodys love child so he’s staying in.  Little to commend with or without the footy.

Woey jnr looked ok so he’s got another week.  Loved his run and nearly gold in the last quarter.

Changes?
maybe only maybe JVR for BBB  or Tomlinson for Petty if he’s injured

Thought Melky and BBB both did well, but that doesn't mean JVR shouldn't play.

Our premiership side had three talls (Jackson, T-Mac and BBB) plus Fritter. Playing JVR as a mobile CHF with BBB and Trac nearer the goalsquare will stretch most sides in the air and may even give us confidence to attack a little more down the spine. And the advantage that Trac has over our three (and for much of the year four) mega smalls is that he can rove packs and also be dangerous in the air.

So it would be nice if Goody gave it a go and made Spargo the sub to bring in JVR. But he won't. He's too conservative when we win.

Lions have a tall forward line, so if Petty is out injured, then Tomlinson should get the nod.

Casey playing today doesn’t help. You wouldn’t want to bring someone in off such a short break.
Whoever is in line for a call up will probably need to sit out the second half.

Brown looked like Cliff Young in the last, he has to be doubtful for any footy. JVR a must to return. I think we actually need Tomlinson to play back and Petty to play forward. Todays Casey game a must watch. Why is Dan Turner out?
As for bringing Hibberd in I’m not so sure, our backline looks a thing of beauty atm. Bowey back in form, McVee rarely loses a contest and Salem is a really really good HB.

As someone who advocated throwing Petty forward for much of last season and early this season, I get why you think Petty would work as a forward.

But I ask you to go back to the games this year that he played up front and hit the video replay.

While he is more mobile than BBB and T-Mac, he unfortunately doesn't have the quick-thinking ability to be the forward link player. It is an experiment that needed to be tried, and after months (years) waiting for it, it was. But there's only one place for the Harrison to play - and that's down back, where he can stick to the simple aerial things that he's good at and distribute sideways to safer disposal players or down  the line.

2. Kossie plays for Casey this week

I reckon we desperately need another tall forward to keep Harris Andrews accountable. BBB with fit legs can do that job. But he needs JVR and Melk alongside him or they’ll put Harris on Melk or the resting ruck.

And Tracc will surely go back on ball for a greater percentage of game time. Viney and Vinettes aren’t beating Brisbane.

Ideally we’d bring JVR in for a small.

But we can’t lose forward pressure, if we drop Pickett it’s probably for Chandler. JJ and Sparrow should stay in. Taj deserves another run too.

I think it’s time to go with Grundy sub, JVR in and BBB budgeted for a half only. If we lose players then readjust with a taller set up but otherwise Max does the main share of ruck minutes in the first half, then goes forward in the second half.

In - Supporters. It’s been a month since we had a G game.

Get to the ground. Help the players build momentum and belief. It really makes a difference.

Totally 100% agree. We must make sure our home ground advantage becomes a home crowd advantage.

It really is the only way we as supporters can actually help the team. GO DEES!!

The big question for me going into the Brisbane game is will our midfield hold up without Trac to allow him to play forward?

JJ had the most CBAs last night and we ended up losing centre clearance by -2. It's not all down to JJ, but he's not Clarry or Trac.

St Kilda's midfield is nowhere near the level of Brisbane. The thing about the Lions midfield is that it can go missing and be exposed on the outside for pace.

Trac has kicked goals against Brisbane in the past from the midfield, so I wonder if it's a 50-50 split for him?

I think the other factor that often sees our midfield overawe Brisbane's in the size of our mids and the hardness. Without Clarry, we need Trac's size to exploit this.

Be fascinating to see how we balance up our midfield against them.

We have to win territory and therefore, likely have to win clearance well to win.

The positive sign last night is we started to chain and transition the ball better than we have for quite a few weeks.

Who shall he kick 5 on this week?

At the absolute least, someone who deserves a spot in our backline. Let alone someone who has played forward for the last month and then in a quarter as sub against a flagging side didn’t register a stat.

Who are you dropping from our currently in-form backline to put Smith in there?

Just wondering

What criteria would one use to determine if the two expensive ruck combo delivers value

Playing in a GF. Other than the first couple of games I don't think it has DJ. Over the last few weeks I think the Bun has played better than Max. Max's hit outs don't seem to go to anyone. IMO the bun is a better tap ruckman.

Brown stays . Hibberd absolutely plays if he's fit. We're a better side with him in the 22.6

Dropping back to Casey isn't going to be available in some upcoming weeks. There is a bye next week and again on the weekend of 6 August. Casey will finish, I expect, top 6, so in the first week of finals there is no game as 7,8,9 and 10 battle for 2 last spots. If they finish top 4, likely, and win there is no game the following week.

Cariiyst the VFL is a basket case of a competition byes here there and everywhere. The AFL clubs need to go to the AFL and DEMAND an AFL Reserves comp just like it should be. The VFL IS AMATEUR HOUR. How does a club get momemtum and games into young players??

PATHETIC🤮

I like the idea of moving Bowey forward. Rivers will take Bailey or Rainer and McVee will take the other.

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak
