Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Oliver has gone from "He is well ahead of schedule and ready to return" to "Oops actually no he has a blister" to "His hamstring is still cooked."

This has the makings of "He's having surgery and will miss the rest of the season" all over it.

Or you could just accept that the hospitalisation set him back a few weeks.

It sucks but the hysteria around his injury has been off the charts.

Angus, Lingers, Kozzy all had bad games and have been off their best, lingers in particular for a while.

So tired of us picking blokes on reputation over an actual performance given to the coaches, dropping Tomlinson has proved to be an absolute shocker as most of us thought it was. For Petty to stroll back in and serve that up was horrendous.

We are still picking premiership players who have not played a good game for weeks.  Flashy cameos can't be rewarded every week.  Goodwin is stubborn and rewarding guys who are out of form.

By the way Richo talked about it, there were still some signals in his scan. I’m not sure what that means in terms of recovery, but if he is still sore , than I agree it maybe another couple.

It sounds like a central tendon injury. These can take much longer to rehab.

Slow heavy load that progresses slowly to faster movements. It is very individual in healing time. With load progression measured by the medical team

The week in hospital would of made his hamstring worse because he was not able to load the tendon during this time. Tendons love appropriate load. No load actually makes them worse.

We are doing the right thing, we need Oliver in September and there is no point getting him back when he is not ready.

Didn’t they say it was muscle belly not tendon though? What you say does make sense though.

Was listening to ABC radio today and BBBs manager was on talking footy with the ABC commentary team. He was discussing Melbourne and he said he can’t understand why we aren’t playing BBB at the moment.

Maybe he should watch his client play. Up untill last weekend Brown has not warranted a promotion to the ones.

Central tendons run through the belly of the muscle.

"

The central tendons of the hamstrings run from the ischial tuberosity to different insertion sites medially (the semimembranosus and semitendinosus muscles) and laterally (the biceps femoris [BF] muscle) around the knee joint".

I missed Casey's last match against the cats but I've watched the same general level of dysfunction in delivery and lead ups in our f50.

Not sure BBB will make a huge difference anyway.

Hope I'm proven wrong

We don't seem to have enough quality mids, once we lose for example Oliver we seem to struggle , We did beat the pies and yes they were due for a loss. T.Mac was out for a long time last year and we suffered dearly. Tomlinson could via Casey be tried forward along with Turner. This year again we have no T.Mac however Petty may end up a good replacement. Schache could also be tried as a "swingman" in the reserves. We should try to turn Rivers into a midfielder earlier. Dropping an in form player in Tomlinson does not make sense , in fact it is dumb coaching and this not the first time Goody and co. have done. We also has an inability to play wet weather football. Too many problems to overcome.

Please explain the difference between starting a new player on the interchange bench as opposed to the sub. And why would there be "reluctance"?

A player named on the interchange is a fully participating player. He is usually in the game within the first 6 minutes and usually all interchange players get as many minutes on ground across the entire game as players who just happened to start the game on the field.
The enormous difference between an interchange player and a Sub, is that a Sub might never get to participate in the game and simply sit on the rear bench all game, eg, James Jordan in the Premiership team.
What an incredible anti climax it would be to name a first gamer as a Sub, and he never get to take the tracksuit off.

Our first pick this year (Dockers first rounder) needs to be a quality inside bull for this reason.

Give me mids for our first three picks please. But at least one has to be an inside ball winning beast.

Last year,as I recall, Paddy O’Dangerfield was injured, then kept out of the competition for a few weeks doing a mini preseason to get in him in outstanding form for the later rounds.  This seems to be where Clarry is headed - hitting fitness and speed targets (assume KMs as well) to then come back in Cherry Ripe.  If it was round 20, I reckon he would be coming back in at 80% and play into the finals.  We are doing OK (I think top 4 isn’t too bad, is it?) so knowing we can build Oliver into his very best form and fitness is really a luxury.  Her has no chance at any individual honours being out for so long, so what is a few extra weeks to him???

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the
