Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I'm hoping that we are smarter than dropping a first gamer who did a few good things but didn't set the world on fire. The FD clearly see his potential and a run of games in a successful, winning side is what good teams do to develop players. And we are a good team

I’m hoping we pick our best side in a game which could decide our ladder position come finals.

In this case Azz, I’m with Stiff Arm. Confidence is so powerful. To drop him after one game would be to kill what (probs little) confidence he has left after Saturday.

Unless this is the way, could be the plan.

If Salem is named, does Goody get creative and drop one of Harmes or Sparrow, utilising Brayshaw in the middle?

I think this was the original set up before Salem'sinjury.  Wouldn't be surprised if Harmes ends up Sub and Brayshaw back into the midfield rotations

Nothing wrong with dropping first game players, I would say it helps their development to give them a taste. The experience is vital but leaving a kid in there just to give him experience I think is detrimental when they aren't breakout ready to play first year players like Oliver was.

Just my simple opinion of course.

As long as it’s communicated really clearly all along, I think it can work too.  In this instance, with 4 of our best players so close to coming back, it should have been made really clear that in all likelihood it wasn’t going to be a long stint in the seniors, but it was a great opportunity to experience it and contribute.

Tomlinson was excellent. I hope he's given another week and potentially more if form permitting. Am I crazy in thinking Petty isn't an automatic lock, if he gets beaten next week and May is ready to return v Sydney? I know some, even me, have pencilled him in as a future AA Backman, but that doesn't exactly mean his spot is an absolute lock, if others 'below' are performing. It's easy to forget he's still 23* and isn't immune to a dip in form.

In no circumstances does Petty lose his spot next Friday. Petty lost a couple of marking contests , once when bodied out of position by a team mate. But he presents a very difficult obstacle for opposition teams to pass and score.

I will be personally devastated if Petty goes out !!!!!!!
I love that guy !!!

You back him in for the First Quarter for sure, Hopefully we can Blitz Vegas early in the game, like Last year

I still think they are very overrated as a Team

Over-rated, yes. If Judd succeeds (and there is no reason at this point why he would not beat Cameron on the day), imagine what it would do for his confidence and role expansion across the half-back line - tag-teaming with what Lever so capably offers, harking to May's instructions, merging with the midfielders by foot and hand in creative plays, etc, etc. If he is succeeding in Round 2 against Cameron, that will greatly upset the expectations of half of the Brisbane team and Cameron, often a disgruntled hot-head, will be pithed orf, lose focus and concentration and remain - for the rest of the game - a sulky hamstring to the rest of his team. This has happened many times with close checking from opponents.

Petty will rebound, big time. Two young blokes either side will support him better than in the game against the Doggies.

You misrepresented my point. I said if May is 1 or 2 weeks away, then Tomlinson and Petty should be competing on form over the next week or two, if the club is going to select on form and not reputation. I also said if Petty has a bag (or two) kicked on him them, it would be logical to bring May in to play his position. This is obviously a highly unlikely circumstance, and it is a very slim possibility of occurring - but no player is immune to a dip in form, even 23 year old key position players.

If there's no selections made because of selection pressure, then we're back to where we were last year.

Apologies for shooting Bambi.

Going into Round 1 the FD felt Laurie was better than Jordon and Melksham.

I don't think Laurie did much in Round 1 but I doubt the FD will now rate him behind Jordon and Melksham.

However, if Viney's fit it's hard to see who else would make way for him.

Laurie had only 17 AFL fantasy points against the Dogs and 14 against the Tigers in the practice game. There is no way he is currently in our best side.

Exactly and Goody is the kind of coach to be able to communicate this without harming their confidence

McVee on Cameron is a gamble. Is he ready to take on a seriously creative and fast SF? I don’t know him well enough but perhaps we think about bringing Hibberd into the mix. It doesn’t feel right to drop McVee it doesn’t feel like the right matchup - he is better suited to Zac Bailey. Perhaps Bowey takes Cameron.

Laurie has to come out, just don’t think he has the goods.

Out: Kozzy, Laurie, Tommo

In: Fritta, Viney, May.

Does anyone know what Laurie's role was Saturday? Trying to remember where he was positioned but cannot for the life of it see it in my minds eye. I guess the obvious out is Laurie for Fritta but is he replacing a player in the right role? Isn't Chandler playing Frittas role? So we shuffle Chandler to do whatever it was Laurie was supposed to be doing and slot Fritta in his usual one? Then Pickett out Viney in, not really like for like as Kosy only played a small % in the middle whereas JV will be in there often. Those 2 at a minimum have to come back in but I'm hoping it doesn't upset the balance we had from Saturday.

Laurie played a fairly defensive half forward game and I think he did a solid job of what was asked from him. But he would’ve know it was pretty much a 1 game contract.

He can go back to the VFL now knowing he’s got the tank and discipline to do a job and he had a couple of skilful touches too. He’s not 23 and fighting for his last chance, he’s still a kid and 1 game in to a 2 year contract extension.

Viney and Fritsch replacing Pickett and Laurie just means rejigging Harmes, Chandler and Sparrow’s roles a little bit. It’s not a big deal in terms of structure.

They want Viney to do some stints at half forward and from what I saw at training they want Fritsch to do more on a flank too. So it’s not too drastic.

As for Charlie Cameron, I’d try to rotate McVee, Bowey and Rivers through him. Don’t ask one player to go it alone the full game

100%.  Last week showed that it's our defensive team and structure that is so effective, not just individual players.  Unless the oppisition somehow breaks it down, there will always be help coming.

What are you talking about? Kept Naughton to 1 goal. Naughton is an absolute gun.
Tomlinson played on Lobb who is borderline a potato (still has a fantastic game!)

Naughton missed 2 sitters

the marks he had on petty were hard to stop for any defender I don’t blame petty and would definitely not drop him

It would be a huge mistake to move Gus back into the midfield, and bring in Salem. Gus is essential in our backline.

Unless Bowey, Rivers or McVee drop in form, Salem needs to bide his time in the VFL.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
