Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

2022 Trade Report Card

Demonland

Recommended Posts

MELBOURNE

Who left: Jayden Hunt (West Coast, free agency), Toby Bedford (GWS Giants, trade), Luke Jackson (Fremantle, trade), Sam Weideman (Essendon, trade)

Who arrived: Brodie Grundy (Collingwood, trade), Josh Schache (Western Bulldogs, trade), Lachie Hunter (Western Bulldogs, trade)

Draft picks owned: 13, 37

Brad Johnson says: “Hunter goes to Melbourne and I think they like the left-footer in. They’ll have right-footer Langdon on one wing and Hunter on the other side. He’s very good with that 25m to 30m dart and take it on through the corridor as well. I think the other mids he plays with will enjoy that.”

David King says: “I love it. If you’re going to be a contested possession, clearance-based team – you’ve got Clayton Oliver in his prime who’s going to be there for quite some time, Christian Petracca and Jack Viney – if you’re going to have an asset like this, maximise it with the ability to get Grundy. The use of Max Gawn now will be fascinating. They’re going to have the ability to basically do what Geelong did last year – Gawn takes the tap work, goes behind the ball and Grundy becomes a roaming ruckman. I think it’s a terrific acquisition and I’m excited by what Melbourne could do.”

Foxfooty.com.au trade grade: A-

The additional 1st and 2nd round picks next year are also a great result for us.  We'll all be hoping for them to drop down the ladder which will give us a great draft hand to either bring in more young talent or poach someone from another club.

Multiple picks also will give us a good opportunity to move higher up the board dealing with any academy/fs picks.

Pretty sure the suns have a few academy players next year, so they may need points rather than draft position.

Last two days were the turning point for me.  Things were looking pretty grim with Hunt, Bedford, Weiderman all leaving, along with the [censored] deal we got for Jackson.  But the last two days Melbourne pulled the rabbit out of the metaphorical hat.  Brodie Grundy's response was so much more humble and gracious than Jackson's, and I feel Brodie will be the perfect fit culturally at the club.  Hunter could be fabulous in the Wingers Club if we can keep him on the straight and narrow, and while I don't know much about Josh Schache, I have an open mind. Great work, Jason and team!

Why didn't we get an A+. A flawless trade period imv. Grundy is an upgrade on LJ, in the short term at least and Hunter brings better disposal so addresses an obvious flaw. Pick 13 added and a suite of picks added next year to allow up to go big game hunting and hopefully add the KPF we badly need

And Gold Coast should have got an F. A joke of a football club

I was going to say what did we need to do to get A or A+? Did we get marked down over the Jackson trade or something?

No need for pluses and minuses I think.

We upgraded our outs with the ins.

I would say all of them are upgrades, even Schache slightly for his versatility.

And we absolutely raked in a draft pick haul that gives us so much to work with at next year's draft.

How can you not be happy with that.

Tinker with our game plan, have a solid year injury-wise and we'll be contending again.

Until they make it 4 year minimum contract and address this business of some prospective draftees advising clubs they won’t leave their states, it’s a scam for the top clubs.

Hawthorn and Geelong have made it their speciality. St.Kilda will grab King next year.

Very happy with the outcome and IMV did not get screwed over on the Jacko trade. We got some nice picks next year and upgraded to 13 this year. All in all a beneficial trade period for the club and can't wait to see Grundy working with Gawn and Hunter doing his thing opposite Langers. Trust BBB and TMac get fit plus JVR realises his potential and we WILL have a great year and challenge again.

Not good for equalisation but for once it works for us!

Fair to say that when viewed over a period of 18 years or so, the best teams do seem to get rewarded but those teams do change over time.  Hawks were a destination club 5 years ago...not as unbalanced as all that (except for GC & GWS)

Good job afl with equalisation strategy-not.

Cats gifted Bowes through afl negligence and lack of foresight in salary dump changes. Not through brilliant trading as suggested.

Top teams thrived . Bottom teams or those on the slide-dogs for example- did poorly.

I'm so confused. I read the trade and draft boards every day and I was sure we were getting screwed, we never stand up for ourselves, and Tim Lamb was on shaky ground?

It's almost like you can't evaluate the trade period until it's over.

Dees are big winners. Where in the window for flags and Grundy is a much better short term proposition than Jackson. The other out are back up whereas Hunter is A grade. Schacster not so sure about but steak knives. Geelong getting pick 7 and 3 * top 20 draft picks. WTF no wonder they never fall. Saints OMG that an F same as Suns. Hawks are doing a Dees under Bailey could set them back 2o years. Love it

Totally agree.

Jackson was out of our control, but nonetheless left a huge hole in terms of the need for a second ruck.

I was really concerned we would not be able to fill that hole given the paucity of such players - in a general sense and also specifically at tgis point in time.

To snare a ready to go ruck of Grundy's talent was an incredible outcome.

We were crying out for an outside runner with above average kicking skills and hunter ticks that box.

And it's brilliant that the pies and dogs have to contribute to Grundy and hunter's salaries.

Hard to argue hunter is not an upgrade on Hunt, not that the two were nessasaily linked I guess.

I agree Schache is an upgrade, albeit just, on weed. And Shache won't be asked to play a role he is not suited for - which to be fair to weed, he was.

And as you say the draft picks give us something to negotiate with.

By any measure that is a fantastic trade period.

Kudos to lamb and his team (who by the by were super proactive with grundy).

Both toiges and catties are old teams with plenty due to either retire or hit the wall in the next couple of years. They are trying to poach and warehouse replacements for old tired bodies. But the new ins are not as good as those going out.

Our "ins" are not selected to replace old tired warriors but are selected to enhance our current list that apart from maybe Hibbo and Milkshake will be playing on for some time.

Love what we did in the trade this year. Our hands were tied with Jackson so we do ok in the end. Jackson is the only player we lost that was guaranteed game time yet all three pick ups will.  Getting a game at Melbourne has only become harder and that's a good thing.

D+ is very harsh on North. JHF decided to leave and they had to make the best of a bad lot like us with Jackson. They turned JHF into pick 2.

Following that pick 1 into 3 and F1st is good dealing too if you don't want the player GWS does at 1, ie Cadman. You still get the 2 players you want and the F1st.

They got a couple of handy players from Freo for their must-trade assistance picks, which is decent going with their coaching uncertainty.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
