Grundy wasn't treated badly at all

It simply didn't work out so he got dropped.  That's footy.  A bruised ego? He'll get over it

We tried to make the him a more versatile player but as it turned out, he's a ruckman/follower and that's it

His value came to the fore when Max got injured early in the season and the replacement ruckman in place of Grundy will need to play a similar role

He'll get moved on and off the books and we'll get market value back in return

And let's not forget that he got paid close on $700k for services rendered

Similar to James Jordon who is a reasonable player who couldn't nail down a permanent spot ... so he moves on

No big deal either way.  Clubs make experimental moves on a constant basis and there's no better example of that than drafting unproven (at AFL level) teenage talent ... sometimes it works out and sometimes it doesn't.

That's the cut and thrust of recruiting

Not sure what went wrong here. Brodie seemed happy with the move and did seem to enjoy the company of other demons, even seemed to have cut off any pies contacts.

He was a back up ruckman to give Max relief from the constant battering, was meant to extend Maxs playing life and was a transition ruckman for the next generation.

He did cover for Max when Max got injured and while a different type of player to Max he performed creditably.

He is still a very good ruckman/follower and to release him to strengthen an opponent would appear to be slightly silly. If another club can get him to perform to capacity, so should we. At least would expect pretty intense and truthful conversations which should result in some clear communication to members and the public.

I dont expect to hear all details al the time and disclosure of conversations may affect trading processes under way.

I reckon the club has done a lot right and will continue to. WE were a kick short in games we could have won, we need to win them, wether thats because we could have used a BG type better is unknown. How we respond to the savage treatment Angus received is far more important.

Pick 11 (or better) if he was an established contracted senior player with us but he isn't ... he plays at Casey.  In plain sight

A pick in the mid to late 20's or 30's will get the deal done

id rather he was fantastic for us, with an emphasis on defensive effort and as part of OUR forward line. Doesnt have to be a target, I recall many decoys forwards that create opportunities for others.

He plays for the MFC in 2024, but it won’t happen of course he will be at the Swans.

Yep, correct weight,  Swans need him far more than MFC need Grundy off the books.

Almost a certainty hes gone but we should be going for pick 24.

Why the hell did Norff get pick 3 for offloading a overrated injured McKay ? AFL is a shambles. Media and clubs never hold them accountable.

If Norff finish near the bottom next season...(likely 14-18 ) they'll end up with about 4 1st round picks including the AFL assistance draft picks.  WTF.

I think that's a bit unfair - the truth is when Max was unavailable, he was first choice at ruck, and he performed well.

Unfortunately trying to play two AA rucks and split their time doing what they do best (#1 ruck) just didn't really work because neither are great forwards. 

The Swans don't need a forward ruck they need a quality AA ruckman - enter Brodie Grundy

His value to the Swans should not be underestimated. If they want him and IMO they should the Swans need to pay a fair price. 

Early second round is the worst we should consider fair. As an aside I'm still shaking my head over the ridiculous Pick 3 compensation for McKay - perhaps not relevant but as BT would say Woweee

mckay is just a pretty average player

In an earlier post I mentioned that Grundy filled in admirably when Max was injured

But that was then and once the decision was made to go solo with Max, that was the end of Brodie ... to a point where he was actively looking elsewhere and indeed meeting with clubs in the season proper

So we showed our hand and played our hand.  So ideally, the Swans pay all of his $700k per annum salary but they may not want to give us a decent draft pick in return

We payed pick 25 or thereabouts to Collingwood but we'll do well to get that sort of pick if Sydney pay his full salary - just my view

MFC should get a  pick in the lower 20's because we trained him back into form without further injury.

I don't see that they tried too hard to make it work once Max came back.

It reckon it will either be Sydney taking on his full salary or we pay a bit of his salary and receive a good draft pick.

It won't be both.

I'd imagine Sydney have asked us to pay a significant portion of his salary and have offered us a pick in the 40's or 50's.
