Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Kieren Briggs signed a 2 year contract at GWS at the end of 2022, he wasn't available to us last year.

https://www.zerohanger.com/giants-ruckman-kieren-briggs-re-signs-126716/

I'm not saying Briggs was available, but giving an example that there are 2nd and 3rd string ruckmen that could fullfil a role as the no.1 ruck if given the chance. But you wouldn't be giving them $650k a year for 5 years to be an emergency in case Max got injured.

Who exactly would you have recruited last year who could have capably rucked while Max was injured this year and rucked 50:50 in 14 games enabling Max to hit this time of year in full fitness compared to last year when he was broken?  You provided an example of someone who wasn't available - that's not too hard to do.

Just go through the Melbourne based VFL teams (AFL aligned) and you'll find a couple at least. A $50k pay rise for say 2 years will prise them free.

Remember you're looking for a ruck not a number 1 mark around the ground player ie another Max

Certainly a possibility.  And we would have had access to him in the Jackson trade so it appears we didn't rate him sufficiently.  We might have dodged a bullet and avoided diluting the lucrative Freo draft haul there.

Matt Flynn is UFA this year ...

Not that we didn't rate him because we put all our eggs in the Grundy basket by mid September.

Anyone listening to Gawn talking about his 200th game on G&G would think he is either trying to wind us up, or the end is nearer than we can bear to think about. Grundy might just be the insurance we have to have.

Hearing that a lot lately.

But say if Max went on just one more year, is that too long for Brodie to wait?

If not then I'd be looking at someone like Flynn, can't imagine he's on that much.

We are a well run club, everything suggests Lamb & co are forthright and Grundy no fool, maybe there is a plan, I also think Grundy is a cultural fit with the Dees. I really didn’t know how to read the comments made on the podcast. I do think Grundy fits our style with his follow up work.

We don’t need Grundy. We never did need Grundy. We sold him a vision, which both parties liked at the time. It didn’t pan out. Grundy won’t want to remain at our club, but will not hold any bad will towards us, as he agreed to the vision. It hasn’t worked out - that’s footy. Numerous teams not only need Grundy, but really want him. He will get to where he chooses to go.

Also judging by his reaction to the knee injury in Round 2, he thought if it was an ACL that it meant his career was over, so can’t be too far from the end.

He has plenty of fingers in many pies, young Maxy.

According to CH7 caught up with Port Adelaide yesterday.

Saw that on TV as well.

Let's possibly entertain this idea.

The problem for Port Adelaide is what do they have to offer? They have no draft picks worth offering. What players could they even offer?

Brodie Grundy has a 4 year contract with the Demons.

We would be asking for Josh Sinn, Miles Bergman, Ollie Lord or someone of decent quality and talent.

I just hope that the Demons drive a very hard bargain.....IF....a trade does possibly happen (which I hope it doesn't).

Honestly I would be very disappointed if he’s meeting clubs already when our season is far from over.

Can’t believe our club would tell him he’s done, because any slight injury to Max could see him play finals, hell even a Grand Final. Needs to focus on that rather than looking for the nearest exit.

Port can get stuffed, they were handed JHF for chips. Get as much as possible out of them if this trade eventuates.

They can take over his whole salary and give us a commensurate pick.

They can trade in picks.

They have all their future picks.

Our draft picks are:  5, 15, 24, 34, 89 plus a full hand of future picks.  We only need a pick that will help us trade up the draft for the one or two elite players we are targetting.

Freeing up about $650k in our sal cap is a bit of a bonanza.  Help us reward and keep the next gen players.

TL isn't going to become Bell or Dodoro who want to win every trade and lose sight of the big picture.  A deal will get done that benefits us in a broader sense but it may not look like a trade win.

We haven't told him he's done.

Listen to Goody in his pressers and he's always saying how much of a required player he is and that he's still an integral part of our future.

It's Grundy who doesn't feel the same hence why he's meeting with other clubs.

I must admit I'm pretty disappointed that to hear that he's gone and met with a club right on the eve of finals and with a club that we're potentially contending against.

I am all for players meeting up with clubs etc because that's the nature of the game and we've done it in the past ourselves.

But it's about picking the appropriate time and space. Doing this while his current club is still contending and he's trying to break back into the team should br his absolute prime focus.

All he had to do was respectfully wait after the finals series and advise Port that he would be fully focussing on thr job at hand and park any trade talk aside.

You can tell Goody is sick of all the Grundy talk that comes up in his pressers. So what does this do now? Create more unnecessary noise.

Hope we don't pick him for the rest of the year now.

Future first and pay his whole salary - deal or no deal. My preference would be to keep him though.

If he’s contacted to play for Melbourne and we want to keep him but he wants to leave and we don’t let him. What happens then?

He retires or stops playing and is in breach of contract?

Goodwin would say that regardless- he’s on a 4 year contract.

Grundy met with us in winter last year, I don’t see the problem - the older blokes can compartmentalise.

And those that demand one of their better young players is kidding themselves. We do not hold the whip hand here - we surely want to free up cap and spend it on a first 18 player or players.

The value will be similar to what we paid.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
