Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Would have preferred three years but as long as he is happy with the deal that is cool. Thanks Simon.!!!

A couple of years ago I thought he was a poor coach, Once we got Yze and Choco, he seems to have relaxed a bit and takes other opinions on board.

He seems to have grown,   my opinion has grown,  How much has he done wrong in the last two years,   not much     Deserves the 2 years definitely,   every flag ,   another year,   no problem at all.

Effectively gives Goody three years of security, which is about right.

He absolutely deserves a new contract, but you also don't want a situation like West Coast has with Simpson where a premiership coach from four years ago is now fighting for survival.

If Goody makes it through 2023 in good shape, I'm sure another contract will be a formality if he is still keen.

While 2 years may seems short for a Premiership coach, short term contracts will be the standard for both players and coaches, until the CBA is re-negotiated and the AFL comes through with new Soft cap limits.

So all good news and thoroughly deserved for all parties.

The Coach is only as good as the players under his control, West Coast have, like many clubs beforehand, thought their nucleus of top end talent will last for ever, see Geelong. You have to continually go through a renewal and I think we are, we have a lot of younger players and continually recruit their replacements, the big problem is that generational players like Max, Tracc and Clarrie only come once every so often.

I hope Simon coaches us for another 10 years because if he does it will mean we are winning, he wouldn't hang around if he wasn't the right person for the job, he has too much integrity to do that. I think he will still be there as long as the three mentioned above are.

For the conspiracy minded I'll kick it off.

He only signed for two years because the jobs been offered Ooze after that

He only signed for two years because they are going to appoint Dogga as captain coach for the next 10 years

Great news!  Goody clearly is a great student of the game, and a great leader of men, and from all accounts, has played a huge part in developing the culture that has been critical to our recent success.

Happy with the short extension. Continue winning as much as we can and come 24 he may well get another extension. Also very good email from Perty I thought

Agree.

A sensible and realistic contract extension. Everyone has their use-by date. We just don’t  know when that will be for Goodwin. I just hope when that comes,  both parties can agree to the parting in a decent and gracious manner and we don’t see a repeat of the debacle we have seen with other coaches our own included. Despite all the rhetoric from the family club, their parting with Clarkson was a nasty tacky ending.

Times will never be better than now. We have won that elusive premiership and we are top of the ladder and seemingly sweeping all before us. We may win more flags but the first is always the best like winning that first Gold Medal.

You are right in stating that Max, Christian and Clarry are generational players. When it is all said and done, they collectively and individually are the difference between winning and losing. And we should probably throw May into that ring. If you took anyone of those 3 or 4 out of the ring, the Hawks would have knocked us off.

We do have many great players and we have great depth. But the good times never last for ever. It’s always a thin line between winning and losing and the generational players and match winners are usually the difference. Just taking one of those players out of the team has a huge impact. Just think Melbourne without big Max. Think of Dusty at Richmond.

Its when a Club needs stable and consistent leadership with development and succession planning being an on-going feature of the way it manages the ups and downs.

I like that old saying that you are never as good as you think you are or never as bad as you think you are. However with intelligent recruiting, player development and a flexible creative and respected coach (and coaching staff), a Club can enjoy a longer period of success.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
