Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Premiership Coach Simon Goodwin extends until 2024

Excellent decision by all parties. Well done to all. The players to a man will be rapt.

Gives Goody the chance to be a 4 - time Premiership coach.

Importantly also must keep the band together.

Like Choco, Yze, Jason Taylor, Tim Lamb, Dr. Laura (for gettiing May up for the GF - lifetime contarat  for her for that effort IMO), and apologies to those I should have listed.

Remember when Clapton left Cream - the band just folded.

Downside it gives the media 3 year's worth -of   made up stories about what happens next re: Yze - will he, won't he????? Succession etc....

Agree.

A sensible and realistic contract extension. Everyone has their use-by date. We just don’t  know when that will be for Goodwin. I just hope when that comes,  both parties can agree to the parting in a decent and gracious manner and we don’t see a repeat of the debacle we have seen with other coaches our own included. Despite all the rhetoric from the family club, their parting with Clarkson was a nasty tacky ending.

Times will never be better than now. We have won that elusive premiership and we are top of the ladder and seemingly sweeping all before us. We may win more flags but the first is always the best like winning that first Gold Medal.

You are right in stating that Max, Christian and Clarry are generational players. When it is all said and done, they collectively and individually are the difference between winning and losing. And we should probably throw May into that ring. If you took anyone of those 3 or 4 out of the ring, the Hawks would have knocked us off.

We do have many great players and we have great depth. But the good times never last for ever. It’s always a thin line between winning and losing and the generational players and match winners are usually the difference. Just taking one of those players out of the team has a huge impact. Just think Melbourne without big Max. Think of Dusty at Richmond.

Its when a Club needs stable and consistent leadership with development and succession planning being an on-going feature of the way it manages the ups and downs.

I like that old saying that you are never as good as you think you are or never as bad as you think you are. However with intelligent recruiting, player development and a flexible creative and respected coach (and coaching staff), a Club can enjoy a longer period of success.

Great post Hemingingway but one improvement.

SHOULD  have thrown May into the list?

No should about it - he's in the list for sure..

Excellent news! A 2 year contract is reasonable considering the upcoming CBA.

Now Simon Goodwin can focus on helping the Melbourne Demons achieve even greater heights!

Let's hope that this inspires both Angus Brayshaw and Luke Jackson to also sign up.

Time to build a new Demons Dynasty!

Ideally the club should put in place a succession plan? By the time Goodwin's contract is up, he would have been 10 years with the club. Although it's hard to make any assumptions at the moment, I'd assume in 2025 we should still be Premier contenders.

How much will Goody be worth if he wins a second flag?

The only reason why he could’ve signed a 2-year extension, is he could be worth a whole lot more by the end of 2024.

Will always be an MFC Premiership coach (1 of only 4)

I am so happy. He not only talks the walk in terms of the new team culture he actually walks it.
He also clearly knows that he is only as good as the team around him on and off the field.
You can almost guess that he actually took a pay cut of sorts to ensure that there is funding available to try and keep on other key support staff in future years.
I would like to think that some of this ‘culture’ rubs off onto the players when it comes up to contract negotiations. Time will tell.
Just finally, I find it so refreshing how he speaks so respectfully about all of the playing group.  I keep saying, we as the supporters of the team can be so proud but in so many ways we also have opportunity to improve on our attitudes and mindsets at times, me included . GO DEES

I reckon that there would have been some succession planning discussions taking part during this contract extension.  No evidence whatsoever, it just seems the logical thing to do to ensure long term success.

As to assuming in 2025 that we will still be contenders, bloody oath we will be. For very obvious reasons I have never enjoyed footy this much in my whole life. Just love now going to the footy with mates who barrack for other teams at the moment. Winners are grinners.

Not sure if you’ve seen the Gary Pert announcement to the players, but Goody left a lot of money on the negotiating table, in order that the current coaching set-up could remain despite the soft cap restrictions. He was entitled to ask for much more dough, but preferred that his team could stay as is. Probably also the reason for the 2 year deal. Thanks Goody!

I reckon Goody not holding out for a longer contract shows how confident he is now. We have the best coach in the league and other teams are trying to copy us.

Goody after a couple of shaky seasons seems extremely comfortable in the role. 7-0 after winning a drought breaking flag is a sensational effort

2 outcomes

Either I am going to wake up and find out I have been in a coma for a year and this was all a dream, or we will receive a ransom note from whoever stole my football club last year demanding we pay-up or they will give us back what we had for the last 57 years.

Listening to Pert talk about what Goody has sacrificed to keep the coaching group together is remarkable.  If there is anyone out there still questioning whether he is the right man then you need to have a good hard look at yourself.

But is he the really the right guy? 🤷‍♂️

Good question! The comeback victory against Geelong in the last round to become minor premiers could be considered lucky, rather than good coaching.
We didn’t smash Brisbane in the first final, it could be argued that we just beat them.
The Geelong win that followed, more luck or just an aberration, take your pick.
And the GF win?  If we kicked 7 goals in the last 8 or so minutes of the 3rd quarter,  how come we could only snag snag 9 in the final quarter (one of which was kicked after the siren). And we let the Dogs kick one goal!
Not to mention our performances this year thus far.  We haven’t even beaten anyone in the top eight! Is this really Goody enough?

Maybe he isn’t the right guy?😉

Yep, true. So many positive initiatives. There is so much positive energy and everything that is happening suggests that our club is leading the pack. Continued success reinforces this change and the initiatives and behaviour being displayed by The President down the line. Pride in abundance.

Other clubs, supporters and the media must hate it. What no articles from Caro about our great club?

You forgot that we have not beaten any side above us yet, but I reckon we will soon, such a rich vein of form no one can beat us.

Its interesting, many supporters of other clubs are actually enjoying the way Melbourne are playing and going about it, more than hating it.

Even my one-eyed Bomber supporting brothers are begrudgingly admiring and tuning in especially to watch our boys play, simply because we are so good to watch when we turn it on.

Coach re-appointment, Narrn, Women's footy are all further validation that as a club we are on off-field as well as on-field.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
