Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Their Round 7 Thread title says it all:  Hawks v Dees at the G after a 5 day break......ouch.

Other doom and gloom:

  • Expecting a bloodbath.
  • Time for my annual public service announcement for all Supercoachers to make big Maxy your Captain next week as we continue our time honoured tradition of kicking it to him at every conceivable opportunity
  • Hope we don't go with the "kick it to Max Gawn" game plan even though its great for supercoach.  Pretty much every other team seems to have adopted that tactic too .
  • Would like for Finn to get a run with role with one of the Dees stars.  Going to get spanked so give him an opportunity to play in his best position.
  • Can actually see dees resting a few. Will beat us in a canter.
  • don't shoot me for suggestion, but we may need to bring back older bodies (Shiels, Howe) to prtect younger players who are both gassed and will get murdered by Dees
  • Doesn’t matter which way you cut it, we’re not getting close to the Dees.  Manage anyone that needs it and make sure we’re cheery ripe for the bombers the following week. If we can put the final nail in their coffin, the season is a success.
  • They get Lever and Viney back too. FMD.
  • Gawn, Oliver and Petracca vs our midfield is going to be ugly.
  • If Dees up their behinds from 22 to 35+ we could b in with a chance
  • That (2021 draw)...was a real surprising result, bad sadly I can't see lightning striking twice. Melbourne just have this aura about them ATM, won something like 13 games in a row and have a flag behind them.

Some optimisim, sort of:

  • Good learning experience coming up.
  • Petracca also looked pretty sore last night , May was feeling his hammy late, Jackson got a head knock so better to be safe than sorry .  Think thats another 3 changes for them
  • ...they are going to drop one. Who knows, it could be us. Why not. We could also lose by 12 goals and that's fine ...
  • Well what did we do late last year to draw with this super power?
  • 10 goal win

My favourite:

  • Dear Melbourne, please rest Max Gawn & Clayton Oliver. They’re both in desperate need of a break. Sincerely Hawthorn F.C

A few matches next week between teams in the present top 8.

A great opportunity to put a gap between us and several teams.

Hawks seem to run hot and cold.

I think they give it a red hot go but as the game progress and their fitness wain the superior Skill level of their opponents takes over.

Other teams are taking note and adjusting accordingly. Swans probably had an inkling they'd run over them. Now every other team knows to wear them out and then wait.

Few clubs we owe as much as we do the Hawks. 87, 88, 96. We have barely started paying them back.

I barracked for Hawthorn until 1965

Unbelievable!  I share your pain.  In 1964 I was 5 years old and my brother was given a Melbourne footy jumper and I got a Hawthorn jumper.  (We were kids from immigrant parents and my mum bought jumpers that had no white in it - easier to keep clean!).

The Dees won the flag that year of course, my brother was happy as was the kid next door (he barracked for Melbourne).  I refused to wear the Hawthorn jumper from that day on and hopped on the ‘gravy train’, so I thought. One could say it was a bad career move.
We all know what happened to the Dees and I think Hawthorn snagged 12 flags since.

As I got older I at times thought I may never see us win a flag.  Didn’t help much as the league expanded from 12 to 18 teams. It seams the odds were always against us.

All I can say now is, it was worth waiting for. GO DEES!!

Other supporters often think we're going to thrash them, but we rarely thrash anyone

That’s just typical over the top footy fan pessimism. Identifying every minor hurdle as a completely insurmountable task is par for the course.

The weekly Demonland mass suicide was the same right up until late last year, it didn’t seem to matter how bad we ACTUALLY were. Hell, there are people on this site complaining about our form now, with 13 wins on the trot, one of which was a grand final.

Ya, I was 9 and needed new jumper. Melbourne Sports Depot had them on special for 10/6.
Only one that fitted was Melbourne. I was one size too small for St Kilda

Well, from what Big Footy said we need to "up their behinds" presumably in the metaphorical sense. Slight concern but we press on regardless...

Hope Clarko took the tapes from last year, where they short-circuited our sick intercept marking power by scrubbing rubbish kicks along the ground.

If that's the best they've got me thinks they're probably in for a world of pain this time around SM.

If our forward line clicks and we can finally win a second quarter this could get super ugly.  Always respect the opponent but i reckon we are cherry ripe and aside from our forward form/cohesion/conversion the bulk of the rest of the boys are playing either at or above their 2021 levels right now.

I was listening to Pendles on SEN today and in an interview someone asked him what he thought the reason was for the Pies' super accurate kicking yesterday (15.3).  He said they'd had a rugby kicking coach in during the week and the main theme was he told them to make sure they were running directly at the target when kicking.  This coach said most kicks spray because players aren't running at the target when they execute.

If/when the forward cohesion/conversion clicks there won't be too many more grinding wins for the rest of the year.  More like spifflications.  Hopefully starting this week!

Duh!

(not you, DD)

AFL coaching groupthink has neglected goalkicking for years.  Golf. Snooker. Darts. Any "aiming" sport requires you to line up everything at the target before you pull the trigger. And their proponents all know that. Except in the AFL where you run at the behind post to kick a goal.

AFL has "dropped the ball". It kills me when a player is 25m out on a slight angle and decides the "round the corner" kick is the percentage shot.

Duh!

Duh!

100 percent this.

Bowling fast and accurately at first class level is much harder than kicking a goal at AFL level from 35 metres out on a 35 degree angle. Yet most first class, and certainly test level, fast bowlers (except English ones) can hit a folded handkerchief from 22 yards with their chest 90 degrees on. That goal kicking 'is difficult' is one of the great lies told by aussie rules players to other aussie rules players.

Rugby goal kickers starts off by facing in the opposite direction..

We're experiencing a once in a life time champion team cruise to victory week in week out. Enjoy every second of it because it won't last forever and in a few years these guys will all be retired and we'll be back in the pack. At least then you'll get to see a team win by 100+ points again, just like the good old days of Neeld

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to
