Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

Forced changes only. Pre-emptive LOL for any posts suggesting differently.

We’ve looked tired for over a month now.

I want to see some rotations and give some Casey guys a taste in case they are needed come finals.

I’d even take Melksham at this stage because one thing he can do is kick the ball.

Nah not today, @Nasher.

A big win does not always mean a flawless 22.

I'll happily debate anyone who argues Harmes played well today.

Woeful up forward particularly in the 3rd quarter and last, cost us 5 goals.. 2 bad set shots in the second I think.

But we’ve seen all year he’s not a forward but is a pretty handy midfielder even if he makes mistakes.

The question with dropping him is who is better?

I love JJ’s clean hands and team style but he can’t really kick nor is he a strong contested ball winner. He doesn’t compliment Viney and Sparrow any better than Harmes does.

Vanders - meh, he’s pretty much the same as Harmes with worse movement. Melksham - no. Jones - no, for now. Chandler - no. Kye Declase - one to watch, but I doubt it.

If Salem's even remotely sore he should absolutely not play next week - the Eagles game is critical to our season but Salem's fitness for the games beyond it is far more important. Hibberd a more than adequate replacement.

If lions and swans lose today then top4 is all but a certainty. Given PA doesn’t look likely to finish 1st or 2nd then we will either face Dogs at Marvel or Cats at the G. Coming 1st 2nd or 3rd won’t change that. So agree on resting him if needed.

Out: Viney, Harmes

In: Jordan, Vanders

If Salem is out, De Classe

If TMAC is out Weed (dare I say)

Bowey just brilliant today

With our poor finishing I think we'd be unwise not to at least have a look at Melksham. He's our best finisher and field kick.

Give him eagles and crows, see what he can bring us.

So did I - and many others on Demonland (who have gone quiet on the matter). Amazing, isn't it, that people actually involved in the club and the game might know a little more than the geniuses on this site?

Like it. Magpies showed how to dismantle Eagles by lowering eyes and pin pointing their passes into forward line. We still bomb it a bit much in my view and need players to look for our forwards. Melksham provides that and plenty of kicking practice required for Trac etc. so we also can dismantle the Eagles

I thought he should have been given a rest but he took a big step towards winning the rising star today. He was great.

Viney and Harmes certainly do have their deficiencies but I doubt either of them will get dropped. I don't think that there will be any changes provided that Tmac and Salem are fit to play next week. Otherwise you'd assume that Weideman and Hibberd would be straight in the team.

Weid for TMac if injured.

Otherwise I'd drop Harmes for Jordon, or vandenBerg even, and I'm no vandenBerg fan. Harmes 4 turnovers and 4 clangers from 76% game time. Just hurts us more, IMO, than he helps us.

No other change. Bowey holds his spot over Hibberd for at least one more week.

Petracca had 7 and Oliver 4 turnovers.  They getting dropped,  Harmes was great today and is the midfield rotation we need.  24 disposals at 63%, 8 tackles, 29 pressure acts and should have kicked 2 if not 3 goals.   He allows Oliver and Petracca do what they do.

He played well today but I thought that Jackson has lost quite a bit of his leap . He had the ability to float and hang , but he is young and he appears tired to a degree.

It's not Rivers or Hunts role to shut down dangerous forwards.

Hunt breaks lines and Rivers creates play.

It is their role if Hibbo‘a not in the side. That’s the point.

We aren’t putting Bowey or Salem in dangerous forwards.

I can see your point there Travvy. Those stats are good.  I just wish Harmes would keep his game a lot simpler. Fewer fend offs and trying to evade 5 tackles in an effort for the miracle kick/handball to advantage.

Whenever Clayton feels tackle pressure his instinct is to get his arms high and free giving him a chance at an effective disposal. This would be a better technique for James than the fend off. He doesnt have the upper body strength of a Trac

I'm probably wrong, but was under the impression that if a player is subbed out of a game he is automatically ruled out of the next game.  Hope I'm wrong...

Just for concussions I believe.

Agree, but id also like that from T-Mac, Viney, ANB and Sparrow.  But people need to rem Harmes is our 4th-5th midfielder, he isnt going to be polished.  No club has that,  he is a very handy mid rotation.  He kicks 3 goals and I bet no one is talking about him.

Same as everyone is on Vineys back about today's game, whilst I agree it was bad,  his past month he has been a shining light.

Not necessarily. You need to get a clearance from the AFL to allow them to play the next week. Given we spent 12 hours flying around Australia yesterday I doubt the AFL would be so cruel as to say he didn’t have legitimate back problems.

Wouldn’t trust the AFL to “look sympathetically” on anything to do with MFC.

However if TMcD has any back issues, especially is aggravated by flights, then now would be a good time to give him a week off and have a look at Weed.  Then of course what if Weed were to have a flyer? (Would be a very nice dilemma though).

If Tmac and Salem are good to go I think it’s just one change. But I think it also depends if we want to rest players heading into finals.

Both very important players - do not risk any aggravation at all if any doubt.

We'll they did a good job then stopping dangerous forwards if gold coast were restricted to 4 goals for the match and we won by over 90 points

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
