Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Play ya big Ferraris foward.

LJ will be the most exciting forward since Buddy if it works out for him in that position.

Much rather him ripping games up and kicking bags of goals than rucking.   Hes the exact type of player that will put bums on seats.

That's one of the most foolish things I've read. He's kicked 3 goals in 6 games!

Surely 20 years of consistently overrating our young players has taught you something? Hogan, Bate, Tapscott, Strauss, Blease, Maric, Trengove, Scully, Toumpas, Morton, Watts etc. etc. etc.

LJ hasnt showed that he has the goal kicking nous or foot skills yet. And doesnt even come close as a forward to Roughead, Naughton, Max King, Ben King, Jeremy Cameron, Hipwood, Tom Lynch, Gunston, Ben Brown, Darling, Charlie Dixon, Membrey, and about 500 more.

I actually think the opposite. I dont think he'll make it as a forward. I think he is only a ruckman.

I think you are wrong 'D' but let's check back in maybe around 5 years time and see who's right.

I don't think he's only a ruckman, he's got more strings to his bow than that.

I think that I don't care whether he makes as a ruckman so long as he makes somewhere on the filed.

I see him as a potential forward or, even better, a potential running wingman while he develops a body and a tank.

In the past there were many top players who started out on the wing eg Hardeman, Roos, Clay, Bourke and who were given time to develop. Let the club and the boy figure it out.

Dwayne's assessment of Jackson's season in comparison to the rest of the draftees was daft. Firstly, questioning the selection by comparing his year to players selected above him (which we didn't have access to) and then talking up Ash, Stephens, and Flanders.

I also think the argument that ruckman are the least important position on the ground is hard to fathom. Two of the best 10 players in the competition are ruckmen.

In saying all that, I am not sure Jackson will ever be a first ruckman at AFL level due to his lack of size. 200cm is actually quite short for a ruckman these days. But he is so athletic that he can play almost any position. And it is possible that he becomes so good that we don't want to risk him in the ruck.

Look . . . let's face it . . . DR is right. He won't make it as a ruckman. We'll have to settle for 600 career goals, three B&Fs, a Brownlow, three premierships and half a dozen AAs playing a Bernie Quinlan type role across half forward. He might get the occasional tap out to a running Tracktor, who slots it from 55 metres on the boundary into a five goal headwind, but it'll be a sheer fluke rather than skilled ruck craft.

Dwayne reminds me of the Executive at Decca records in 1962 upon rejecting The Beatles . . . "we think guitar music is going out of style". Absolutely clueless (on a good day).

3 goals from 6 games. Thats all we've seen thus far. Haven't seen anything to suggest he will be a forward. His foot skills around the body are weak and his overall kicking is lacking. He is clearly a ruckman and I do see him as a potential AA ruckman but definitely not as a forward.

Burgo and co must always get nervous when players go off for offseason training from their own trainers but results do look good.

Very suspicious on the claim Jackson couldn't do a single chin up though.

The problem is that a lot of these guys can't keep the bulk on when they start doing aggressive cardio...

STill the strength often remains...

Who cares what Dwwwayynne thinks.

The reality is that every other club in the comp would be absolutely stoked to have Jackson on their list.

So, thanks for your expert comments Dwwwayynne. Pity for you that you’re absolutely incorrect.

His games so far have shown he has a great awareness of the game as it evolves around him. Did some great team assistance things up forward.  He will be a gun in if he applies himself. It is more likely a case of why waste him in the ruck apart from relief bursts. Rivers also shows a  natural game awareness.

Last year's recruiting could well be the catalysts that propels us up the ladder. Another gun or 2 this draft would be the cream.

The teams that have had ongoing success have always had a couple of unbelievable drafts.

Ok i'll bite. Let's look at your first example here.

Roughead kicked 6 goals from 16 games in his first season. Also had 8 hit outs for the season, so you can safely assume he spend most of his time up forward.

LJ; 3 goals 6 games. Also, 29 hit outs in those 6 games.

So not only did LJ average more goals, he did it while spending less time in the forward line. In a season of shortened quarters.

Two people in the media I give zero cred to.

1. Dwayne Russell

2. David King

They both have the mentality of Biff from back to the future

Dwayne is a [censored]. Don't pay any attention to his comments. He's probably the worst commentator and analyst in the media. He makes Dermott Brereton sound smart!

To become a star, I reckon Jackson will ONLY make it as a ruckman and not as a forward. His best attributes are his leap, his reflexes and follow up on ground ball. He looks best when following up a ruck contest and getting involved in linking chain with other midfielders, similar to Grundy at Pies.

As a forward, he struggled to read the flight of the ball, lead to dangerous spots, and was poor in contests. He's still young and has lots of physical development to go, but IMO he looked better suited to ruck and around ground play rather than as a tall forward.

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was
