Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

Bradtke is a raw talent at the moment, nothing more. Placing our ruck back-up hopes on an unproven youngster who lacks match and intense training time (for quite some time now) would be foolish and the concept of ridding the MFC of Preuss for longer-term hopes of a Bradtke talent surge in an unidentifiable future timeframe is absurd. Preuss is not there yet, either but is a long way towards the craftsmanship that the MFC will be requiring, and we have him NOW. He has several ruck back-up qualifications already and particularly, has proven himself in being 'difficult' to handle; plus, he is already under Gawny's talented influence (as experienced by Goldstein) and capable of improving even more in several important 'big bloke' roles. These are the things that interest other clubs at the moment. Our coaching team must make the effort - it must stop skirting the development of our talented list and its requirements.

So if we get rid of Pruess and Max is injured we have no other Ruck other than part time LJ

Good reason to keep him for another year in my opinion

I am happy to trade him, because he is surplus to our needs. But I don't want us to do what the market sees as being a fair trade. I want to extract the maximum return.

My view is that Preuss will become a very good player. Ruckmen of that size have been shown to have a big advantage and I think he has shown enough to suggest that he will be at least a good AFL ruckman.

The trade will be seen as a loss down the track IMO, but he is not going to get a game ahead of Max.

Dont Trade Him play him

We have Jackson as our 2nd best option not Bradtke

Unless it's a massive win for us trade wise I would keep him, only going to get better and you need a strong entire list to go all the way

What do we consider a massive win, to me a pick in the late 20s early 30s or getting our first pick into the 8 to 14 range.

Maybe that range... I'll leave that to the recruiters if they got their eye on a kid or on trade it for a best 22 that we need

The bottom line is we have a player that other clubs need and if you are a player you want to be playing at the highest level not playing down at Casey hoping Gawn gets injured.  When we traded for Preuss I think the club thought he would play 70% forward and 30% ruck in tandem with Max, it hasn't worked out as Preuss's forward work isn't good enough.  He needs to go somewhere as No 1 ruck, hopefully he can get this and we get want we want for the trade

I'd suggest that Jackson will be develop as a KPF, with chop-out ruck activities on occasion, only. That is why I referred to No.2 on current inclinations in Bradtke.

As for 'best', forget it. The longer that Goodwin remains even with the moderation and talents of Yze onboard, it will be the wrong choice at the wrong time in the wrong positional deployment for the wrong outcome. C'est la vie!

If we trade Preuss to GWS, we should insist that Caldwell is part of the deal. They have lost Corr and Davis is nearing the end, so there could be some interest in Oscar as part of a deal, if we are looking at moving him on. Oscar would probably appreciate more chances to play as well.  Losing Preuss leaves us vulnerable if Max goes down, so it has to be a win for us to release him.
Preuss would be number 1 ruck for GWS, so if he goes there we need a best 22 player for us.
BTW there are more Caldwell types out there than Preuss types, so while not as good a footballer, Preuss is extremely valuable to clubs that need his attributes.

Its out of Essendon and St Kilda for Caldwell. I expect he will go to the saints.

There's been absolute no reports or noise that we are interested in Caldwell. He'll pretty much make a decision this coming week now that the saints are out of the finals.

Other than him being a first round pick how well do you know his game and where does he fit into our needs? Me personally I dont know it well, he may increase our overall talent but I dont feel like he solves anything for us. I dont see his exposed form at GWS being any better than Sparrow this year who I suggest is a similar player.

Billy Frampton - future 4th

Darcy Cameron + 62 = 56

Zac Smith - 58

Pittonet + 61 = 54 + 63

Andrew Phillips + 61 + 72 = 57 + 70

Thats last years ruck bingo. How you’ve go from that to a former pick 11 in a super draft is beyond me. Not to mention Caldwell has to be interested in us and we have to be interested in him and there’s no evidence of that.

From the limited amount I have seen of him he is an outside mid who can play inside mid and has better disposal than most of our players. Not saying he is a star but you wouldn’t get one in a Preuss deal anyway.

Anyone know Sheahan's track record on breaking a story?

Hopefully GWS can throw in Toby Greene as steak knives like they offered in the Dom Tyson for pick 2 package.

Pretty ordinary in the past but seems to have a good strike rate this year so far.

GWS have been the rumour for a long time tho, so he's not entirely going out on a limb.

Giants first pick is 39 as far as i can tell.. is Pruess worth more than 39 simply because of demand and he is contracted.. would GWS part with their first pick in the draft for him? Very interesting negotiating to be done. IMO he is worth slightly more than 39 which could end up mid 40s by the time it gets to us. They may get a second rounder for Caldwell.. could we demand that?

Absolutely. Ruck is a glaring weakness in their side, they are desperate for him.  I'll be pretty unhappy if that's all we get.

I agree with you @Demon3 - nonetheless,  if we get their first pick (39, or whatever) Mahoney will be perceived as weak and the club has been bent over by some legendary posters on here.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
