I don’t think there is. The undervalued skills for key forwards as far as I see them are: 1. Forward pressure. 2. Being able to split a pack and not get outmarked. 3. Versatility to go in to the ruck. 

The moneyball parts of Brown’s game are accurate goal kicking - but I don’t think he can generate many shots on goal - and a supposed ability to go down back.

Surely Melbourne have learned from previous history to not gift players games, we have done that for far to long, high draft pick, let’s play him for weeks on end.

We need 22 players in form playing in the team, if not we need the other 22 fighting for their spot in the senior side, hoping someone doesn’t perform so they get the call up to the seniors.

If Weid gets a game this year is because he deserves his spot, if not he needs to bang the door down at Casey, thats why I love this signing.

The difference between depth and valuable role player is simply that they effectively play that role. He can play plenty of footy and we can still win games. One does not discount the other.

What i notice a fair bit with Brown is that when he doesn't mark the ball, he at least brings it to ground

Indeed some of our best wins for 2018 came with Pedo in the team.....playing his role.

This is all that is required. Good teams are full of role players. They key is knowing what that role is and getting buy in.

We have enough talent. We may be a bit short on game breakers but Goodwin has admitted that players lost faith in the plan and weren't playing for each other. They were confused and hence got caught betwixt and between with ball in hand. He said they didn't work enough on the basics and tried to add too many layers of complexity and nuance which all fits (except if you are a happy clapper who screeches 'injuries!' at every turn)

Hopefully 2020 is a lot clearer - my question mark remains over the whole new shiny coaching panel. They need to get their act together very quickly. We can't afford for them to be out of synch - and find that we are 0 and 5

I’m surprised the Dons delisted this guy to be honest.

Daniher’s injury concerns are well known - and he strikes me as being a very good insurance type tall forward. He kicks goals.

Much like Pedo, I reckon he’ll play an important role for us in 2020 - and that’ll be a role in a performing team, not an under-performing one (as some here quite reasonably fear).

He certainly can do nice things onfield and he is certainly hungry for the game with some sincerity and perhaps, justification. Hope his injuries and recoveries (2 knee reconstructions have been mentioned, I think) do not hamper his potential contribution. He could also impart forward-play skills to others who have so far missed the key points ... 

You realise both Gawn and Lever have had 2 knee reconstructions and seem to have recovered ok but he was selected in the same draft as Jack Watts as selection 15 by Geelong so he had potential at that stage. He was trained by Thompson  and Scott at Geelong and Thompson and Worsfold at Essendon.

He maybe only here for 1 year but if creates competition for spots on the forward line and back line then we have gained from his recruitment.

Sometimes when a player is delisted and is given a 3rd chance he trains harder and compete's harder to prove his worth to the team?  

The complete dees puzzle when we had the win against weagles  in 2017 for the first time in 10 years included a 3rd tall called Pederson- big moments

a rampaging J Viney -  and Vince and Lewis.

 

Capitalising on our contested work .Brown and  a fitter Pruess can help us with this .

Finding the smarts / speed of ball movement and skill from the back half is yet to be seen  May and Lever are different players although Kennedy didnt play that day

Spot on RB.

I know it's early and years ago the term was March champions but prob now it's  November champs.

Neverthe less that doesn't stop me like you RB from being bullish about our list in 2020.

Our stars are training to get better our average players are developing quickly and our recruits from last year and 2019 are fitting in and shoeing why JT chose them

Snd finally Weed Omac Petty have bulked up to become men!

From no forwards wingers  and runners  there are possible options rising as we watch.

2020 can't come quick enough and Dees fans get on board (or stay on board) !!

A 196cm goal kicking forward who played senior footy at a good standard this year and who has good endurance, is let go by a club with a shortage of key forwards and a main one who is injured and doesn’t want to be there.

What do the Bombers know that we don’t, or was it purely a salary cap issue?

On face value it is a good get for us.
