I reckon you are correct chook.

The guy's a solid journeyman โ€ฆ and good luck to him but unless we are injury struck, I can't see him as a regular.

Weideman has had his time at Casey. Itโ€™s time for him to get an extended run.

Moneyball also implies thereโ€™s a skill weโ€™ve identified that Brown can contribute that makes him undervalued.ย

I donโ€™t think there is. The undervalued skills for key forwards as far as I see them are: 1. Forward pressure. 2. Being able to split a pack and not get outmarked. 3. Versatilityย to go in to the ruck.ย

The moneyball parts of Brownโ€™s game are accurate goal kicking - but I donโ€™t think he can generate many shots on goal - and a supposed ability to go down back.

Surely Melbourne have learned from previous history to not gift players games,ย we have done that for far to long, high draft pick, letโ€™s play him for weeks on end.

We need 22 players in form playing in the team, if not we need the other 22 fighting for their spot in the senior side, hoping someone doesnโ€™t perform so they get the call up to the seniors.

If Weid gets a game this year is because he deserves his spot, if not he needs to bang the door down at Casey, thats why I love this signing.

The difference between depth and valuable role player is simply that they effectively play that role. He can play plenty of footy and we can still win games. One does not discount the other.

What i notice a fair bit with Brown is that when he doesn't mark the ball, he at least brings it to ground

Indeed some of our best wins for 2018 came with Pedo in the team.....playing his role.

This is all that is required. Good teams are full of role players. They key is knowing what that role is and getting buy in.

We have enough talent. We may be a bit short on game breakersย but Goodwin has admitted that players lost faith in the plan and weren't playing for each other. They were confused and hence got caught betwixt and between with ball in hand. He said they didn't work enoughย on the basics and tried to add too many layers of complexity and nuance which all fits (except if you are a happy clapper who screeches 'injuries!' at every turn)

Hopefully 2020 is a lot clearer - my question mark remains over the whole new shiny coaching panel. They need to get their act together very quickly. We can't afford for them to be out of synch - and find that we are 0 and 5

In his draft year,ย Mentone Grammarโ€™sย Brown was bit ofย a rival to Brighton Grammarโ€™s Jack Watts. I think he almost upstaged Watts when he represented theย AGS against the APS so it would be somewhat ironic if Brownโ€™s career ended in the red and blue.

This post rekindlesย some memories from the 2008 National Draft which Demon fans would know for better or for worse as the โ€œJack Watts Draftโ€.ย

It was during the National Under 18 Championships of that year when Watts from Brighton Grammar and the Sandringham Dragons starred on the MCG at centre half forward for Vic Metro against Vic Country. Late in the game with mark a minute-and-a-half left he was three or four deep in the pack but clunked the mark and kicked the goal that won the game. From that point on, Watts was regarded as one of the likely number 1 prospects for the national draft, jockeying for that position with WA ruckman Nic Naitanui.ย

During that period, he had a rival in schoolboy ranks in another key forward draft prospect Mitchell Brown who was also at the Dragons but attended Mentone Grammar. In August, 2008, it was Brown representing the Associated Grammar Schools who upstaged Watts for the Associated Public Schools in the annual match between the two schoolboy competition representative teams. The AGS won easily and the star of the game was Brown with 8 goals at full forward. It has been claimed that over the preceding 12 months, he has grown from rover size to 193cm. Early in the season he missed the cut for the Dragons and even played for Old Mentonians in the VAFA. His goal tallies for Mentone Grammar before the APS/AGS game were 7, 7, 6, 8 and 7 and he was eventually invited to join the Dragons in mid-season playing with them for the last five games.

The eight goal haul pushed him to the forefront of recruitersโ€™ minds and, after originally not being considered by most as a top-20 selection, Brown was selected by Geelong with their first round selection 15th overall in the 2008 AFL Draft.

& in 2017 as well, IMSM?

Iโ€™m surprised the Dons delisted this guy to be honest.

Daniherโ€™s injury concerns are well known - and he strikes me as being a very good insurance type tall forward. He kicks goals.

Much like Pedo, I reckon heโ€™ll playย an important roleย for us in 2020 -ย and thatโ€™ll be a role in a performing team, not an under-performing one (as some here quite reasonablyย fear).

Well spoken too. I like this guy.

Welcome to our second-best key forward.

Guess you may be correct, Clint.

He certainly can do nice things onfield and he is certainly hungry for the game with some sincerity and perhaps, justification.ย Hope his injuries and recoveries (2 knee reconstructions have been mentioned, I think) do not hamper his potential contribution. He could also impart forward-play skills to others who have so far missed the key points ...ย

You realise both Gawn and Lever have had 2 knee reconstructions and seem to have recovered ok but he was selected in the same draft as Jack Watts as selection 15 by Geelong so he had potential at that stage. He was trained by Thompsonย  and Scott at Geelong and Thompson and Worsfold at Essendon.

He maybe only here for 1 year but if creates competition for spots on the forward line and back line then we have gained from his recruitment.

Sometimes when a player is delisted and is given a 3rd chance he trains harder and compete's harder to prove his worth to the team?ย ย

The complete dees puzzle when we had the win againstย weaglesย ย inย 2017 for the firstย time inย 10 years includedย a 3rdย tall called Pederson- big moments

a rampagingย J Viney - ย and Vince and Lewis.

Spot on RB.

I know it's early and years ago the term was March champions but prob now it's ย November champs.

Neverthe less that doesn't stop me like you RB from being bullish about our list in 2020.

Our stars are training to get better our average players are developing quickly and our recruits from last year and 2019 are fitting in and shoeing why JT chose them

Snd finally Weed Omac Petty have bulked up to become men!

From no forwards wingersย ย and runnersย ย there are possible options rising as we watch.

2020 can't come quick enough and Dees fans get on board (or stay on board) !!

So am I .ย

A 196cm goal kicking forwardย who played senior footy at a good standard this year and who has good endurance, is let go by a club with a shortage of key forwards and a main one who is injured and doesnโ€™t want to be there.

What do the Bombers know that we donโ€™t, or was it purely a salary cap issue?

On face value it is a good get for us.

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kateโ€™s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwoodโ€™s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season.
