Great comments by everyone - I have little to add.

Just a very pleasing result. We showed today that our pressure and subsequent clearance work today is finals level stuff.

James Harmes continues my man-crush. Just superb.

Chuck Norris just got a James Harmes portrait tattoo.

Just got home from the game, stoked with how we play, cats supporters from work are already giving me grief. I’ll need to quit my job if we lose. Main prob of living and working down this end of Victoria.

Friday night game is poo, gotta. Big night in the city thurs night and getting tattooed on the Friday... not great timing, means I’ll need to spend the arvo in the city doing sod all and find somewhere to park.

Good problems to have tho.

Triple M just reported that players sent coaches and staff out of the meeting room.  Suspect some sort of pact was being hatched!

Players are really owning this - absolutely beautiful!

Awesome, about bloody time. We wanted Would love to know who’s driving it.

JKH was excellent. Nothing flash but consistently applied pressure and contests. Flew once against the flight to save a certain GWS mark on the lead. The less said about the “supporters” who bagged him pre-game the better.

Super impressed Weid as well. So proud to have always backed him - faith is being repaid.

It was the midfield that got it done for us though. The Gawn, Oliver, Brayshaw, Harmes combo has become the stuff of dreams. Adding Viney in there makes it sound frightful.

Agree Nasher, only able to listen to (AFL nation) webcast from afar...(on the the grand tour Athens) Robert Walls praised Jay Kennedy-Harris for winning a one on one contest with quote ‘courage and will’. Robbie seems to be a a bit of a fan and has mentioned JKH in dispatches previously. Detractors need to take their blinkers off rather than dwell in a negative self-indulgent universe of their own creation, without the grace of conceding maybe the young bloke can play and make a positive contribution to team success. Fortunately the Match selection committee make the team selection decisions which appear to be based on fair and rational parameters. Great if Jay gets a finals gig with the first 22!

Super pleased about the team performance, may the momentum continue to roll on. ‘[censored] hang on to your ? ‘s!!!

I would say Jordan Lewis given he sent the team an email last week to cool their jets.

He is coaching them on how to win in September!

Lewis smells finals and turns it up. He must be so incredibly bored by these meaningless Home and away matches. The man wants another medal and is playing like it.

Harmes is in some sort of form. Dusty don’t argues while destroying opposition midfielders. I hope he kills Dangerfield that little turd.

ANB did a great match winning job on Weitfield too.

Seriously how enjoyable has the last 2 weeks been? Today that 3rd quarter was just perfect and so enjoyable. I sat there and pondered back to the awful days under bailey and neeld and thought how far we have come.

I just loved everyone's game today and Max is just a legend. I did worry when he was chasing a giants player and was thinking do not ping a hammy. Im glad goody got him off at the end. I think the weeks rest will help him.

I will say the way the Giants ran off the ball to create space in the first 45 minutes was frightening. They have so many players who are exceptional athletes and were really using that run smartly. I was impressed we stayed with them and started to force contests. Then once the game became more contested they started planning for next week. Somehow by 10 minutes in to the 3rd we had a comfortable lead and they were dropping a man behind the ball to slow the tempo despite us being 2 down.

Anyone notice the amount of times Jetta tackles someone and wraps his arms, legs and whole body around them? Has been my long time fav player this man. Nev has to be one of the most underrated players going around. Once he gets you, will never let go!

Just think. We are a St Kilda debacle away from third.

On the other hand, 3 of the 4 teams that smashed us are in the four so perhaps were are where we deserve to be.

We learnt from 2017 that percentage counts and to score as much as possible and deny them easy goals.

Today we learnt that to be a top team, we cannot concede losses to inferior teams.

If we'd won the 2 cats games we'd be 2nd and they'd be 12th. Hopefully we repay the debt in 2 weeks.

Hahaha, par for the course!!!! Some of the stories about Oberon High, Geelong High and North Geelong high were insane.

I hate to say it but I had a few years at “Grammer” before the family couldn’t afford it and went to St Joeys. Then off to boarding school.

Played juniors and a little 3rds at South Barwon CC.

I got called for chucking in a sub district game at Geelong. Made the Geelong advertiser in January 1967. I didn't throw it. I threw the next one and ump let it go...

I never even saw 1 GWS fan all day, both inside or outside the ground. I couldnt get over the absolute silence when they kicked a goal.

37,200+ pretty solid turn out from Melbourne supporters.

How good was Frost? A stellar game today. Some of his kicking was exceptionally good, and he's just so damn quick. He was great to watch.

Gawn continues to have a huge impact and I'd love to see him win the Brownlow this year.

I've thought Harmes has been really good since getting more time in the midfield, and I love that he's getting some accolades.

Trac continues to infuriate me with his inconsistent disposal and his at-times lazy and/or poor decisions, but did some really good things and I want him to set the finals alight.

Really disappointing that Tyson was injured, because in the past 2.5 games I reckon he was in the best form I've seen for him in about two seasons.

Dont agree. Charlie runs all day, gets where the ball is, and he had a hand in a few goals. For a 19yo he is terrific

I must have been watching a different player to you. Even though he had some good moments and it was a better game than versus WCE, I thought he was probably our worst player for the day. I'll be interested to see whether I see it differently on the replay.

I agree, Spargo makes some silly mistakes, but he runs his guts out every game. The kid must be spent, but he'll be huge asset going forward.

Unfortunately he's visibly spent during the games much of the time, and can't fulfill his role in the zone/chase his man. Maybe the fact he's running his guts out effects his kicking, because it's diabolically bad at times. I don't even know if he'll carve out a 100+ game AFL career, let alone be a huge asset, so we're a fair way apart in our views.

1 hour ago, titan_uranus said:

Still have room to improve - Spargo is struggling IMO, and we still make some poor errors at odd times. Petracca's set shot kicking is getting worse, not better, unfortunately.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who sees it like this. I reckon he's been struggling for a month+.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team.
