I know the swans were missing buddy but seriously how did they lose to nth. I mean they managed to beat the cats on there home ground. Thats terrible by sydney.

North are nowhere near as bad as everyone expected.

The Swans beat Geelong with one quarter of footy. They were deplorable in the second and third quarter last week.

Great win for North.

Helps us too. Swans would have been hard to reel in if they started 5-2.

For a game played at the SCG I did find syd-nth a good game. It was great to see the swans lose and Mason Wood is a good player. North are better than people think which makes our win against them better.

Huge opportunity to win (at least) the next three on the trot, and IF they show they care and focus for the whole of these games and don’t get ahead of themselves, big IF I know, and to consolidate a place well into the top 8.

Do I trust them to do it? Not yet.

Mark it down now another season 2008 coming. Richmond being the Cats this time.

Some team will click between now and September to challenge them.

Please god let it be us!

So Sydney have lost 3 home games at the SCG? Port, Adelaide and North? What a weird season. Football has turned into sloppy hot potato and hard to watch.

Suddenly the win against North is looking a lot more important, the next 3 matches are looking so important now. All winnable, and if we get the chocolates in then that could springboard momentum for the rest of the year with Viney and TMac back in the side.

But one week at a time, let’s focus on the saints this week.

This is the only year I can honestly say that I have very little interest in watching AFL (apart from the MFC). The football this year is awful to watch.

St kilda will try and take a lot out of Norths win last night.. We have to be on our guard big time and be ready and switched on right from the start!.

Very little noise in today's media about Hartung's goal which was clearly touched by Mc Veigh.  The AFL/Umpire over reaction to last week coach complaints that it took to long for score review so umpire bounces the ball without the score review result.  So it costs Sydney 5 points and potentially the game.

Can't help but think if it was a Vic side there would be a bit of a media raucous.  Good sportsmanship by Longmire to not whinge about it.

The AFL really needs to sort it out.  The reason for having a review system is to catch the clanger and that 'non' call was a clanger.

Edit: just read one report that said the umpire didn't call for a review.  But we keep getting told that every goal is reviewed.  So not sure what the story was but either way the review system failed the fundamental reason for its existence - catching the clanger.

How does one team (Eagles) get 33 frees and the opp (Port) get 13???  Wouldn't affect the result but it must have been a doozie of a 'home crowd advantage'.  33 vs 13 would have to be an all time record.

Imagine how many more WCE would have had if Shuey had played the whole game!!

It would be interesting if the AFL published the 'frees given' stats for each week for each umpire!!  Given that everything else is up to public scrutiny I don't see why umpires are protected from being accountable.  Can't see it happening tho.

They are into everything over there. The constant stream of whinging over noon decisions would take a toll after a while for sure.

33-13 is a disgrace and large differentials are common there. And it WOULD affect results

Time seems to run out on Hartung review

Rhetorical question:  when did the AFL introduce a 'time limit' for goal reviews?  I may have missed the announcement after Hardwick complained last week about reviews taking too long.   The umpire didn't wait - looks like a 'rule of the week' situation...

Imagine if it had been Richmond or Collingwood receiving the non-call.  Imagine if it was a final.

Laughable. Whether the ball was touched or not, Sydney always get an arm chair ride at the SCG. Think Buddy being allowed to be spun 720 degrees before releasing the ball or taking a set shot that involves deviating 10 metres from the normal straight line run up. It's safe to say the ledger, on and off the field (think COLA) is squarely in their favour and has been for years. Give us a spell (abracadabra)

These results  show one thing

ABSOLUTELY no easy beats this year  each match could be won by either side

if we take these next three  games other than full bore we will lose !   4 flaming quarters   not 3

Watched North live twice this year against us and Port. Both times they were well beaten and didn't inspire confidence at any level.

And then they have beaten Hawks and the Swans.

Pre season I did not rate North, Collingwood, Essendon and Freo as any/much chance for the 8.

Like the black knight in Monty Python time for North to give up but they always have a twist.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
