Pedersen v Weideman this weekend

In the absence of Tom McDonald I think both Weideman and Pederson are this weekend playing for a spot in the seniors for rounds 4-6 .

Weideman plays for Casey against Coburg. If he kicks 2 or more goals and does a decent job as relief ruck he will be in the running for round 4.

Against that if Pederson does the same or better in the seniors he will keep his spot.

The only reservation I have is that Coburg are an unaligned side who finished 13th last year with only Nth Ballarat below them.

Will be very interesting to see if either seizes the moment.

Pederson is not exactly setting the world on fire.

Goodwin sees Weideman as important (look at last year).

In normal circs I would agree that he needs to show some more but the absence of Tom Mac is the perfect opening for Weid IF he puts in solidly this week.

Mind you the Weid was not exactly on fire last year in the VFL so it remains a big "IF."

Pedersen may have kicked two early goals against Geelong, but he was terrible for the remainder. As for last week, you'd be forgiven for saying he didn't play.

Weideman clearly has a number of things he needs to work on, but I wouldn't be adversed to trying him.

Weideman and Pedersen both get run off regularly, but Weideman's game against Adelaide last year should be his model for the next 2-3 years. Ensure he brings the ball to ground (or marks it) and tackle everyone in sight.

By building him up as a ruck forward he starts to be a really valuable option.  He can give Max a chop out, provide a deep option and will be a direct replacement for a Pedo.  I see this as a natural progression through the year, as Weids builds, he takes Pedo’s spot.  He can form a partnership with TMac, with Hoges feeding them from CHF.  I think it happens as soon as he is deemed fit to go.  Pedo is then depth for TMac or Weid by the end of the year.

Pedo gets one more chance against his old mob. If he can't make an impact I think it's fair to say we move towards investing in Weeds.

I would love Weeds to earn his sports, but with tmac out we may as well use it to get some experience in to him.

Lets not kill the kids 1 game good start to 2018, with bringing him up to AFL, too raw.

As we did last year Goody wanted to see a block of good form over say a month, prior to elevating a player to AFL level.  I reckon that's good sence.

Lets see him really earn it, and also feel like he's in top nick and deserves it, first.

Weideman  as much as l like and him hope that for a top 10 pick does well. However he needs to put several good consistent games together before he is ever picked to play.  His best ever game was his first game against Hawthorn 2 years ago. Believe me why play him if he can't put 2 reasonable games together in the VFL.. At the minute you stick with Pedo because he has  some runs on the board . He did ok last season.

Hope TMAC is back soon.

I think Weed needs to build his own confidence in the VFL for up to half the season. I want to see him do well, then have teams put planning and effort into negating him, then see him overcome that.

For his own benefit, he needs to dominate and prove himself before accepting the huge pressure of playing KPF at senior level.

Weideman is't even close to a seniors game To suggest he is shows a complete lack of understanding of the game. The kid is a flop. He's Lucas Cook mark 2, we all know it but only some can admit it.

Has Weed put on any condition? Unless he has, this is a non starter if he is to play in the ruck.

Plus I'm in the Paul Roos camp that players should kick the door down to get a senior game.

He was also instrumental in the win over Adelaide, and of particular note was some fierce attack on the ball and great tackling

I think he’s got all the hallmarks of an afl player

He’s still very young and undersized, but he shows talent with his skill set - all about desire and application and probably just as importantly for a big bloke, fitness, which is something he’s never had a real opportunity to develop due to niggles

Not every player can burst into the scene, and that’s especially true of talls

Weeds needs to earn his spot, I feel like he was given graves he did not deserve last year. For a 3rd year player that can't happen.

Pedersons form isn't great but I'd still say he competes well enough at the ruck contests to keep his spot for now. If Weeds is in for Pederson than he needs to show good competitiveness in the ruck contest as well as kicking goals because if Weeds is our second ruck and Gawn goes down than Weed will need to step into the main ruck role.

I've lost some respect for the Demonland faithful based on some comments about Pederson.

If you can't see his contribution, you have rocks in your head.

Zero chance Pederson gets directly replaced by Weeds.

Pederson is respected by opposition defenders, as such he demands a key defender. This has allowed Hogan to thrive. Pederson is an incredibly smart and instinctive player, and is an asset to the current team structure.

Dropping him would be a huge mistake. Teams know he has the capacity to kick 3-4 goals, can take a contested mark, has pace, can tackle, and has very good vision.

Dare I say teams are more focused on defending Pederson than Hogan, because they know that Hogan naturally floats through the middle at random points.

As it stands, he adds complexity to our forward line structure. Replacing him with an inexperienced, one dimensional (as it stands) player in Weiderman would be bordering on tanking.

By all means, bring in Weeds. But not at the expense of Pederson.

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full
