Viney Setback? (Will miss AFLX & JLT, On track for Rd 1)

Jack's comments from an article on the MFC site earlier today...

CO-CAPTAIN Jack Viney remains optimistic he will play some form of football before Melbourne’s season opener against the Geelong Cats at the MCG on Sunday, March 25.

“Personally, I’d love to get a game in. I feel like it would be good preparation to get a JLT game in, or a couple of JLT games in – just to find my feet a little bit. I won’t be ready for AFLX, but if I could fit in the last JLT game, that’d be amazing,” he said.

“I know sometimes when I’ve been a little bit underdone before the season, I’ve played the VFL game, the week before the season, which is when we have a break and there is no AFL football. If the schedule aligns, that could help.

“If I haven’t played any [official AFL] games before round one, I’m not too sure where I’ll be at exactly … but I’d love to get some [games] in before round one.”

Well Jack, let's hope the FD and medical staff are conservative with this and make the right call.

We know you would play no matter what and that can be part of the problem.

so fency, you fancy yourself standing up to viney and saying 'sorry pal but you're not playing no matter what'

That's why the coaching and medical staff get paid the big bucks - to make the hard calls at the right times. Letting him play was a cop-out.

Who gave him the green light to return early from that foot injury and why haven't they been fired yet?

How many of you guys started having a tug after you watched that video at the thought of being as negative as possible?

I read the responses before watching the video and seriously thought he had a major setback.  Instead, it's basically the same stuff as before with the caveat being he is a 'line ball' to play Round 1.

While I'll be surprised if he does play, he won't be too far away after that.  Just calm your farm, guys.

Back in training in a month.

Probably needs another month after that to play an AFL game.

Looks like round 2-4 to me. That's ok. Get him right for the full season.

I thought he was on crutches today judging by the above picture, so that's at least something.

A fit and firing Viney is obviously key to our chances of making finals.

Our record after Viney played that inspiring game vs West Coast (and before injury ruined his season) was 4-5, and 2 of those were very poor wins over Carlton and Brisbane, costing us critical percentage.

Very misleading screengrab- he was on crutches last year and they’ve reused the footage.  95% of that interview had him walking and standing in his footy boots.

And there we go.

Wiseblood gets to mention his pet topic of "negativity" again.

Remember the lube Wise.

I think it’s an old photo.  I’m the video he is walking around without crutches.

They make it so easy, my friend.  The same ones roll up every time.

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

    TRAINING: Monday 16th December 2024

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan.
