So round one we face the most intimidating lineup of midfield A+ graders I've ever seen.

It reads like the mid line of a fantasy football team.

Anyone else worried about getting pantsed here?

If Viney was playing he'd chicken wing Ablett within 5mins.
Selwood would spend half the game getting patched up on the bench.
Not confident he's gonna make it though.

whatever happens you can bet the pollyanna's will be out to remind us that it is not the end of the world.

After round 23 can you ever be confident about this team.

Perhaps that midfield is aging and slow ... we can but hope

Frankly if you look at many of our upsets last year ... we kicked straight and they didn't ...let's hope Round 1 is a repeat

The photo of Viney driving him into the ground a few years back is one of my all time favourites.

I think it started the 'Jack Viney Made Me Cry' thread.

Would love a repeat.

And our Geelong loss was we didn't kick straight and they did.

This one?

...And JV just strolls away leaving Selwood wondering what hit him!

True but does it matter?

Just shows how Viney can work Selwood over and over again.

Bit of fun with pictures.

I'll get in early and say that a Round 1 loss isn't the end of the world.  You're a goose if you think it is.

Will be such a great test for us... thats some serious firepower...  I'm not sure Abletts body will hold up all season but you can be sure he will be primed for Round 1.

Never forget, the third midfielder, Dangerfield, cannot stand having a 'weekend with Bernie' or Petracca, or even Frosty - cannot forget that game Bernie played on him, for example. Made him look ordinary...

...and no matter what, Ablett will be well cared for by the umpires, extracting the sympathy vote at every opportunity...for which he has some fame over the past two years .... Possibly best if Frosty takes care of him across the game, preventing him from staging and getting into hot water .

we don't think Viney will be right to play in 3 and 1/2 months time?

Apart from the fact I hate Geelong I believe they are grossly overated. Adding Ablett to their side won't change anything. Dangerfield is their only real weapon.

If I was them, I would be more worried about lining up against Oliver, Viney and Petracca with Gawn in the ruck...

...and how is their depleted defence going to cope with Hogan, Tommy Mac and Jeffy...

plus a lacklustre forward line that relies on Hawkins.

I think we've got them covered

Not now. If they were playing together a few years ago, perhaps. But Ablett and to a lesser extent Selwood are getting on a bit. And three quality midfielders is not enough for today's game.

I think Brisbane's early 2000s line up of Voss, Black, Akermanis, Lappin and Power all in their prime together has the above trio covered and is possibly the most fearsome on ball line up of all time.

I reckon Hawkins holds the key to this game. He absolutely pansted Oscar and Tom McDonald in Rd 3 to the point where it was embarrassing.

He has absolutely owned us apart from the one game when Dunn held him to just 2 goals in 2015...and surprise surprise that was the only time we've beaten them in 10 years.

Not to mention losing Gawn early and someone else I forget.

Look on the positive side... I would say that the chances of Ablett making it through to the first round are probably as bad if not worse than Viney's.  He's likely to be carrying a dodgy shoulder for the rest of his career and the odds must be pretty high that he may not be ready to go in round one, or will be operating at a much reduced level at best.

Selwood hasn't  got going in pre season as yet. Ablett questionable. Defence weakened with the absence of Mackie & Lonergan. Motlop also a loss.Forward line not always that functional.  We must be a real chance.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
