Let's be frank about GWS

Roos does his best to whack the Giants from as many angles as possible in this article. Although veiled, it's obvious to me that there's some real resentment from Roos on the expansion club and how they came into being - that from a man who prides himself on leadership and being mindful to me smacks of a little bit of hypocrisy.

I think Sheedy's dig about Roos being a single premiership coach (a few months ago) did sting quite a bit and Roos has gone some way to delivering some level of public defence in this regard.

Still nice to read Roos talking about being a Melbourne supporter.

Let's be frank about GWS

I think Roos' love of the Dees is genuine:  "This is my fourth year back in Melbourne, I grew up in Melbourne, I barrack for Melbourne, go to Melbourne games with a Melbourne scarf on when I’m not working..."

He spent his football life batting for the underdog and finally won a Swans flag but only after resurrecting the 'The Bloods' spirit from the perennial underdog; South Melbourne.

So it is not surprising that the creation of a silver tail team (Giants) would not cut the mustard with him.

Roos will always be my hero especially after reading this:  "....If they (GWS) were to win a premiership, fine. I’d rather Melbourne win it:roos::wub:

Do people actually care about GWS winning the premiership beyond a 5 second outburst of annoyance and a 20 minute feeling of dread once the result is inevitable? I've lived through a Hawthorn 3peat, who cares. Switch the TV off and do something else and re-start the season. Go Dees. If they can win it, so be it. If they can't, so be it. idgaf about externals. Sydney's 15 year finals streak is evidence of the manufactured nature of AFL, so i won't get too [censored] off about the Dees not overcoming the mountain just yet. They're up against a lot.

hard to see GWS not winning 3 from the next 5 flags now that Kelly and whitfield etc have signed

they were smashed by injuries this year and still made the prelim at least

the next best teams around are Crows/Geelong/Tigers/sydney.  no other power teams around

Love Roosy by the way

Have no problems with GWS as I have absolutely no emotional (good or bad) interest in the team or its players. I am however very interested in them as a team.

They are like a Fantasy football team or as others have called it a "science experiment." The perfect test of a team of champions against a champion teams and all those other cliches.

When Bulldogs won last year I was gutted as it just emphasised how bad MFC has been for so many years. Nothing like that with a GWS win.

Go the Orange Men !!

I would like to think that if GWS wins the flag, most of the crowd vacates the G in disgust.

I know I won't be watching any celebration from the oompa loompas.

Too all those CEO's who with an AFL Gun pointed at their collective skulls and who "unanimously" voted for GW$ to be created and steal all of the countries young Talent.

Your moment has arrived.

Cameron Schwab as a Richmond man must be so nervous today.

He was in the original GW$ think tank

Would you not prefer to see Richmond make the GF then get thumped?

The scary part is I think they might beat Adelaide as its at the G. For one time only I wouldnt mind a Giants win.

I hate GWS they and the Suns are not football clubs. I was away on a dads and lads weekend last week surrounded by 20 odd Meth Coast supporters. Myself my boy and 2 of the other young lads were cheering for the Giants but this week I hope the Tigers belt the bejesus out of them

My boy was involved in the GWS academy this year and consequently I have had a lot more exposure to them.  I'll be cheering loudly for them now, for they have done more for the Canberra and Southern NSW region in the last couple of years than the AFL and all other fly by clubs (North, Sydney, Dee's) put together.  If this then equates to more AFL players in the region, meaning more teams, stronger competitions and then greater opportunity for our kids (hopefully my youngest would benefit from all this) to develop, then that's an even better reason.  Being  involved in coaching and I can categorically state it is so much more difficult for talented players in the Canberra/NSW Region (excluding Murray) to make it - for you don't develop the necessary AFL skills my beating up on consistently weaker opponents.

As to the money, well the AFL will only find another way to spend it. Probably by help building a summer training centre for the Magpies; or maybe taking over the Netball competition; or maybe giving it to the clubs who will promptly spend it all on one elite player, another dozen coaches and (for some) a suspect medical program harvesting cows!!!!

Besides seeing the tigers get there with there easy draw, or having any team coached by a  Scott being involved; is more gut churdling than Coke mixed with 10 day old milk that has been left in the Queensland sun on a fly infested pig farm.

What I like about it is he doesn't mince words and as he said, he's not re-writing history. GWS was born as a result of North not going to Gold Coast and the AFL having to go "bang bang" in adding a 17th and 18th team to the competition.

He paints a very true picture of the shenanigans the Giants played up in NSW and the insults that followed.

And Sheedy can GAGF.

I'd like to see GWS beat Adelaide in the GF. Would be lucky to get 75,000 there, most of whom would be corporate or allocated tickets. GWS winning would raise a lot of resentment and questions from the broader football community. While Ungarie boy raises some interesting points, I doubt there is transparency with regards to $ spent on and by GWS, certainly not much fairness compared to other clubs. I don't know how they have any chance of sustaining themselves with so few members and WW1 crowds. If they are always to be propped up, there seems little point. I get that clubs have down patches (as we have), but it's hard to sustain a club that so few follow

However, i definitely would be happy for Rich and Geelong to get a hiding, especially the tigers.

That won't happen.  Red and Blue through and through.

Though I know many who are taking out GWS membership, as it pretty much guarantees a Grand Final ticket should GWS make it - as when ballots are held for the two grand final team members, they have about a 99 in 100 chance of getting selected!

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
