(Watts) Braydon Maynard, & an exchange of picks, just to round things out.

I wonder if hell end up the better one though ?

Still sounds a bit of a poor swap.

If Watts does vamoose it will indeed be intriguing ..for what ?

Watts for all i know may be justcas out of favour with mfc fd as Stringer with pups. Seems we might be going about it differently.

Time will tell.

I'd wear Watts for Stringer. But not much less than that.

I've now accepted that there's a fair bit of confirmation bias going on with my view in relation to Watts.

That said, I just want him to remain a Demon. I don't know the bloke from a bar of soap, but I'd love to see him lift the cup wearing the red and the blue. I think it would endorse that everything we've endured over the past decade had been worth it. Vindication territory. He's emblematic of this.

In a sense, I feel like Watts' journey has become our journey. I hope he stays.

And delivers.

I think Braydon Maynard has done very well so far.
I want to see the end of watts.

I'm just sick of players who only give a part of the game, that they want to put forth, areas they are ok performing.

If we are to go anywhere at all, we cannot allow players to dictate what they will & will not perform on the field.

Hodge would not let watts get away with his sometimes efforts, over at the Hawks.

We are too soft on our players & give them games when they don't deserve them, & that then spoils them.  Particularly watts case, & many others, back then.

It's time to clear the decks of the stragglers from that part of our Era. Accepting those who are obviously fully involved in our games & fortunes.

I reckon JW is about a 75% man.  I reckon Gawn is about an 89% man.

Someone's gotta make Buckley look like a good coach.

Its a small sacrifice of the MFC to give up Dunny,Howey and Wattsy to allow Eddie to allow us  2 or 3 games at our MCG !

Your neuroses (and a couple others) are all over this thread - extensive and raw and occasionally slimy and sticky - and I do worry whether this is pervasive across the broader Demon fan base.

Watts is not the reason we didn't play finals.

Watts is not the reason we didn't play finals.

A team is made up of a collection of individuals with their own issues and talents, bringing ranging form and frustrating injuries. The failure to kick another two goals over the course of the season is the collective failure of the team; a number of injuries and medical absences to key players, the dipping of form of number of important players, the mistakes of a novice coach, and the nonchalance of an arrogant young team.

The reason I bring this up in yet another 'Watts [censored] Off' thread is because rarely do non-core, non-bedrock players get so much heat for all the failings of a club. Jack is a high HF/wing with excellent vision, skills and footy IQ. Watts at his best is not the foundation for a finals winning team; he relies on others to get him the ball, and others to get the ball to, requiring, in some cases, great talent to start and finish his work.

And yet, who is the player who gets the most ire? Who is the one 'we gotta get rid of (snort)'?

This role player who played 8 good games out of 12, 3 poor ones in that 12, had a bad hamstring, played 3 more poor games, paid for it, and was one of about 3 players that showed up on time against Collingwood in the last round.

This is the scapegoat for 2017. Him again?!

Goodwin won't realise it for a decade but he should in his last press conference , or his after match conference, woken from his near comatose state that he seemingly is in all his conferences and lifted the burden from a player and spread it around or put it on himself.

This rant isn't a defence of Watts - it is an indictment on some of you, my comperes, for showing little to no desire to look beyond the easy answer and perpetuate this flagellation and blame for someone who may leave in a couple weeks but in no way will solve 'The Demon Question' - whether he stays or goes.

Remember, it was Watts who said to Paul Roos in a plea for him to come (not for himself to leave mind you) - 'I just want to be treated like a human being...'

I agree, that watts isn't the reason we didn't make the finals, but he is one part of the reason we didn't, and there are Many.

he isn't cut out to play in a contested ball team. he does not work hard enough off  the ball when we don't have it.

He plays as a small, yet he won't get in under, & front & centre, he won't fly for marks in the pack which he did do in U-18's.

He is not fully 100%  committed to this club, and probably won't be to any club. He won't risk his body.

He is a mind only player.

Why can't he still?

because he doesn't have anything like the same work ethic - lynch runs and runs as well as kicking well and putting continuous defensive pressure on

if he's part of the deal netting us lever / another quality player, move him on

The Crows Tom Lynch is the exact player Jack Watts could have been if he had worked hard and took footy seriously.

I wonder whether the club environment could possibly have anything to do with that? Lynch was ready to give the game away under Ross Lyon at Saints.

Watts isn't the problem, inconsistency is the problem. The whole team needs to own it. Throughout the year probably only 4 players could say they played at a consistnently high standard for mine it was:

Hibbo, Jetta, Clarry and Jones.

With rare exceptions they were solid in nearly every game. We had not a single consistently high performing forward. For different people the reasons seem to be different, Hoges is obvious, Viney's injuries, Jeffy was obviously having family issues, etc, etc.

You simply can't make a premiership winging team out of variability like that unless you are just plain lucky. The problem is not Watts! He simply exhibits the same variable performance as 90% of the team and he brings skills that few others in the team have. That variability is the issue we need to address. Whether it is preparation, behaviour outside hours, pre-game routine, lack of effort on the training track, the club needs to look into it on a case by case basis and manage the team better. I'm pointing the finger at the coaching staff, not at Watts.

Goodwin was on SEN morning show on Friday. Was asked about the Watts and Salem rumours. Basically said that they won't talk about our trade intentions publically. He added that they would talk with the players involved whether the rumours are true or not.

He was asked the question of whether you structure your forward line based on what you have, or on how you'd like it to look. His answer was a bit of both, but you predominently work with the strengths you have.

He then went on to say that we have assets in Petracca as a power forward, and Hogan and T Mac as key forwards with running ability. Pretty clear that T Mac will be played up forward next year. That would suggest that Lever is already penned into our backline.

No mention of Watts as a forward asset. Make of it what you like

I'm quite happy to move Watts on for the right price (late first early second) or if it is part of bigger plan to bring in other players like Lever. I just think the ability to pressure is more important than precision passing. Especially in finals.

I just want to see him go.

I am sick and tired of making excuses for the club. (not him)

He has got good skills but he hasn't the desire to put in.

Today I saw a lot of Players wearing Orange. They also had good skills, but they aren't desperate to put in at every contest, and do the desperate things to help your team mate get the ball.

GWS are a long way off winning a GF with that attitude.

Jack watts is long way off playing in a final with his attitude. There are at least  a 1/2 doz. demons with similar attitudes.

Why don't you name them?

Put them all in the clearance bin?

If you are sick and tired of making excuses for the club, then don't let the rest of AAMI Park shield themselves behind Jack Watts.

Critique the erratic coaching or the players that didn't show up for the first quarter against the Pies - because Watts doesn't need an excuse for that - he did show up.

Sorry but that's just wrong, Watts is consistently in our top 2-3 players every game for distance covered.

It's not about round 23, it's about 9 years of mediocrity. We all know he has skills, but in 9 years has delivered basically nothing. I like him, we need him when he's in form, but I'm also sick of his lackadaisical efforts. The issue is, we won't get much for him, but do we rid our club of these kind of individuals to move forward from the Neeld days? I'm 50/50

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie
