Yep, faked it. Even had a fake 'vampires blood' capsule already in his mouth just in case someone elbowed him in the chin.

FFS...can the media get any lower?

from memory pertracca was asking the umpire for a free kick so that puts a hole in your argument.

No hole at all, that is just silly.  Just because Petracca tries something ridiculous on, doesn't affect the argument.  Anyway if getting such a free were possible, where would the umpire award the free kick from?

I didn't get to watch the game live as my band was playing, but when I got home my son showed me video of the TMac goal and that Oliver incident. I had no context to work from and didn't realise it was after the siren had sounded (I had had a few beers), but the slight gap from when contact was made and when Oliver went down, did have me thinking it was a dive. On viewing my Foxtel recording replay of the game this morning however, it did look like is happened in one motion, albeit slow motion. Like another poster, I can't help thinking that if it had been a West Coast player (or a Selwood perhaps) who had copped the hit, there would be plenty here crying "dive".

Don't see the relevance of that statement to the question of 'did he or didn't he'.  What one-eyed supporters are liable to cry doesn't affect the facts.

I don't know if there was enough contact to drop him, but the "delayed reaction" people are talking about is no delayed reaction. I watch all kinds of combat sports, and that is what it looks like when you get clipped.

Absolutely agree with you Nasher. I love this kid and any Dees supporter that questions him over this is just wrong.

Just think back to when he got up last year after Cyril shirt fronted him. Plenty of others would have been stretchered off.

The fact that when he got up he went after Schofield says it all.

Oliver is one of the main reasons we are where we are.

It affects how we formulate the facts, and considering the hit didn't look particularly solid, those "facts" would be based on that. In saying that, I'm not condoning what the West Coast player did.

Yes - we give our own player the benefit of the doubt, and don't give the opposition player the benefit of the doubt.  So what? Bias in footy is hardly a new thing - it doesn't make the position of those defending Oliver wrong, though.

Precisely.  Just because one-eyed supporters are often wrong cannot be used to argue they are wrong in a specific case.   Judge each incident on the facts, not what some hypothetical person might say.

Interesting, Steveo made light of the issue on 7, while Fevola disagreed with him. Went on to say Oliver will get looked at for staging.

On 3AW now - Filthy Little Land Rat Tony Shaw still suggesting Oliver should be fined. Weird. Exterminate.

Love clarence but he would want his time over.

No biggie.

You can't possibly know that he went down easy. You are being misled by a camera angle. The ump thought there was enough there to warrant a report.

This is the sort of act (elbow to the head)that the AFL are saying need to be removed from the game.

Clarries reaction was delayed and he stated that is was because of the shock.

Thats all that's needed.

if he is penalised and the perpetrator gets off the club really needs to appeal

However as Clarrie must be in the mix as Brownlow winner I reckon the AFL will ensure he stays clear. He is now a known player and perhaps why he was targeted.

Await with interest

Media tryhards attempting to paint Clarry as a stager really p!ss me off. He wasn't looking, wasn't expecting it and don't tell me he would have the presence of ind to instantly stage something he didn't see coming. While not a massive hit, it obviously connected with his jaw and surprised him. Suggesting he is overplaying it are a slight on his character and we know that to be very tough and combative. Many questioned the veracity of the punch that knocked out Sonny Liston in the first round of the Ali vs Liston rematch. Liston didn't take a dive! He was wobbling all over the place. I'm not saying that Clarry was badly hurt at all but it obviously caught unaware and to suggest he staged is BS.

I was really [censored] off with Darcy saying there was no force so Oliver dived. Schofield used his elbow he should be rubbed out and he should clip Darcy with his elbow on the jaw & so that pratt knows how it feels.

I think it's actually, at that time, an assault, whether it barely touched (drew blood?) or not....

Assault was my first thought. Hopefully the club sends through a "please explain" to the AFL. If it is assault we need to send a strong message to the AFL to ensure Oliver isn't assaulted again. He is still a young kid.

Could silence the patrician element....

He got hit, so it's not staging. It looks delayed and not that forceful which I think is the issue - but it's semantics as there was definitely contact.

What I absolutely love about this is that there are 2 players at Melbourne whose toughness I'd never want to question. Viney and Oliver.

Im fully expecting Clarry to be insanely fired up next week. That's when he does his best work.

Clearly made contact and clearly stunned him. Watch the replay and focus on the back of Olivers head and his hair at the time of the elbow. His entire head jolts

Is it just me or when I try to view the video on the AFL site titled "Schofield reporting for clocking Clay"; I am taken to a differnt video titled "Dazzling dash from the demons"???.... On another note, I made it to my first Melbourne game in about 15 years last night - so far of the two Melbourne/West Coast games I've attended we have a 100% win record ;)

Fantastic, isn't it, how the media focus diverts from a WCE player who elbows an opponent to the jaw, not in play, very bad look for the game (something that the AFL go on and on about)  to the victim's reaction.

So bloody typical of the media, and the AFL.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
