Sam Frost - 50 games

Congratulations on the milestone.  After a bit of a rollercoaster start, having taken 6 seasons, he has turned in to a handy defender. His ability to assist his teammates in defence has been a feature since moving back there, however I feel like his run/dash forward has made real progress this season.

Hopefully the next 50 can come quicker for him.

Interesting that he's holding off any contract talks to end of season. I would've thought it's a risky strategy for s player of his ability..

Congrats on the milestone anyway.

I like a lot of what Sam currently brings to our team.  His game has been steadily improving since he recovered from a long-term toe injury, and returned to defence.  He's still an athlete more than a footballer imo, but the footballer is starting to emerge as he spends more time under the guidance of our development team.  50 games is a nice early milestone, on the way to 150+, I reckon.  Congrats Sam, keep up the good work!

Wasn't aware of that McQueen.  Maybe he heard a whisper that Jake Lever will be on his way to Melbourne.

Interesting

the price of a good running defender probably goes up by the week given the present game style favoured by most teams

Great to see him backing himself.

50 games means you have made the first big step as a footballer

But no talk of him leaving: "Frost appears unlikely to seek a move to a third AFL home, especially when he seems established in a Melbourne team on the rise, but opposition clubs will monitor his contractual situation with interest".  http://www.afl.com.au/news/2017-06-20/demon-frost-keeps-cool-on-contract-resigning

Frost appears unlikely to seek a move to a third AFL home, especially when he seems established in a Melbourne team on the rise, but opposition clubs will monitor his contractual situation with interest.

Think he wants to consolidate his form to earn a better contract.  Good on him for backing himself in.  But as you say risky if he gets injured or form drops off.

May he have many more milestones with the Dees and hope the team make this memorable for him with a win!

I would've thought getting contract talks underway now would make very little difference to any individual performance input Sam makes between now and EOS given that it's more than halfway done.

Maybe he his spooked by the Lever rumours?

His form is getting better all the time and so is his value. He's just getting the best deal for himself. He is a critical re-signing now which he wasn't at the start of the year

I'd eat my hat if he left

Sam has been improving weekly of late. Good composure in 1 on 1s. Links up ok and is creative when he has won his own ball.

Great to see Sam past this milestone.

SEN evening during the week, David King brought up an interesting Champion Data 'fact'. Sam Frost is turning over the ball once for every 2.5 possessions for the last few weeks. I find this hard to believe.

Have always liked his potential but he seemed limited. But he is quickly blowing my previous view of him out of the water. He is reading the play, attacking it, and is iften involved i strong attacking moves. And something both he and OMac are growing in at the same time is learning when to leave their player or their place in the zone, and impact the contest.

His first 30 games were fairly 'meh', but his 2017 season has been very, very strong. Congrats Frosty - now for the next 150 games.

I'm actually not massively surprised by that stat. He's not the greatest disposal, there was an absolute shocker in the 3rd quarter vs the Dogs when we were trying to be cute, and I think he (like Hunt) does tend to blaze away a bit and do a kick and hope.

That said, his dash is proving to be a great weapon for us breaking the lines. He backs himself which is fantastic, sometimes it gets him in a little trouble but most of the time the opposition actually forget how quick he is.

Congrats Frosty!

I'd say that's because every week he plays, his contract is ticking up, up and up.

Having a great season.

How good is this bloke becoming?  Another developmental success story.  Still only 23 years old.

Hes the tall version of Hunt, electric pace and loves to use it.

He and O Macs form is allowing T Mac to stay forward and wreak havoc.  Good times!

Yeah Liam Jones is the best tall defender in the league they say.

In that case,

I'm happy to put up with Frosty and his middling efforts.

Frosty is getting better each game. Takes some great grabs, love his dash and ability to take the game on. With Hunt, Jets and Hibberd they re becoming real weapons.

Congrats on the 50th. Still only young...

Pick 23 for Frost is now looking like the more underrated trades of recent years.

We picked up a couple of third round picks (who became Neal-Bullen and Stretch in the draft) and the player GWS drafted is now wearing the number 40 for us!

Ive always liked this bloke. Has a bit of devil may care about  him, occasionally comes unstuck but backs himself and ..well.. can intercept...can tackle...can kick ...can break tackles ...MOST importantly...read the ball.

By George I think we have a good'n here chaps !!

How good, and inspirational, was that last run out of defence after Nev saved the day, helping set up the ANB Lewis final coffin nail?  Took on (was it) Simpson, and left him grasping at thin air.  He has done that quite a few times in recent weeks, and generally executes it well.

Came to say the exact same. Rightful plaudits to Nev, but I nearly died when Frost just oh so casually took on the tackler.  Absolute confidence and critical. Not just recent weeks generally, but he often goes for the heart-in-the-mouth runs when we're deep in a tight last-quarter.

He doesn't evade. It's just I'm running too forcefully so you're not tackling me.

I [censored] myself every time but it usually works out tops.

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
