Terrible news but at least it's be caught early and he should be ok. Press conference at 9.45 with Josh Mahoney live on Fox Sports News.

Hang in there brother.

Poor kid. Wishing him a full recovery and happy to hear the prognosis sounds positive.

No disrespect but curious - does anyone know the current AFL guidelines if this were to result in lowered or irregular testosterone and Jesse opted for replacement treatment? I've heard it as a topic of discussion in relation to sports previously but not sure where we're at. Also not sure if correct, but vaguely recall Alistair Lynch was prohibited from a form of hormonal steroid treatment despite it not elevating him to abnormal levels?

Horrible news in such a challenging time for a young man after losing his father to cancer recently. They have caught it early so he has the best chance possible to beat it and be healthy again.

Best wishes to Jesse and his close ones in this hard time.

After what Jesse has been through with his father, and now this, it puts football into perspective. Whatever Jesse decides to do with his career/life from here on in, I just wish him the best.

Unbelievable. What an awful stretch he is going through.

Not much we can do, but wish him the best, and hopefully he knows there are 40,000 Melbourne members + many more supporters all behind him.

My family and self all wish The Hoges a speedy recovery from this setback. I'm sure the whole football community will be sending out good vibes for this young man.

Wow. That just knocked me for 6

You will be fine Jesse, rest up.

To the MFC Players: Play this year for Jesse and The Hogan Family.

A Finals campaign should beat the curse this club has endured once and for all

I'm shocked. This is just devastating for Hogan and his family.

I wish him all the best and a speedy recovery.

I spoke to my doctor friend and she says it's a 90% recovery rate when caught early.

Posted

Unbelievable. Lucky he was at an AFL footy club i reckon. The club has said there was 'an extremely early detection', which is likely related to how closely player's health is monitored.

Get well soon Jessie.  The Melbourne Football Club family, and the rest of the AFL community are in your corner.  You should be able to feel the vibe.

Sad news, although fantastic that is was caught early.

And to all the people here who proclaimed they knew it "wasn't physical", chill out on the speculation next time - it'll make you look like less of an [censored] down the track.

Can someone give us a rundown of the press conference?

I'm at work so can't listen to it.

Will try

Thoughts are with Jesse and his family after what can only be described as a horrible patch in his life.

Footy and the club will be here when he's ready, but it's secondary now.  We want him to take all the time he needs to be physically and mentally ready to return.  He's a strong and fit young man and no doubt he can bounce back positively from this in time.

Spare a thought for his mum, who just buried her husband to cancer and now has to deal with her son having cancer. Just awful. My heart breaks for her.

Our doctor is saying that he could be back playing footy in 4-8 weeks.  This is obviously extremely positive news and further proof that they have caught it very early which is bloody fantastic for Jesse.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
