Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

I think Wagner will miss. I really like his style of play and he has impressed me greatly BUT I don't know whether he has enough match play under his belt. If he was match hardened, I would have him in like a shot. A couple of weeks and he's in.

I assume sometimes players are named in the extended as a reward for VFL form and a message that they're close, but not sure why they would bother if they thought he was underdone and no realistic chance of coming in? If an injury pops up in the back-line, we can bring in whoever we like.

Good comments Skuit. He may be more match conditioned than I thought.

They also haven't been afraid of bringing in players off the injury list without much conditioning. JKH for one. Hibberd, Tyson also, maybe Kent? And I'm sure a couple others that escape me right now.

In my mind, the hierarchy of Goodwin selection criteria based on the evidence to date is as follows:

Melksham

Best near future 22 or so as pencilled-in prior to the season.

Team-rules and individual KPI's.

Form/output.

Structure (when forced).

Conditioning.

Hawthorn is a team you can bring in an under done player and get them match fit for next week... teams have done it with MFC for the last 10 years.

Just like last week we owe these pricks, after 7 of the previous 13 wins being over 50 points including 2 100+... I've sat through all those floggings & could only dream of a day we'd flip the ledger in our favour & sink the boots into them while their down, just like they've done to us so many times. C'mon dees be ruthless.

Gee the desperate efforts on here to try and make the group think a reality and JKH not get a game, I'm impressed

my opinion of JKH needing to be replaced has purely been made up in my mind while watching games live at the ground with him not being able to hold simple marks, and not having clean hands to be able to pick the ball up off the ground.... that is all

This is what people expressing their views looks like saty, notice how your comment is only a pop shot at posters with no real arguement again??

It's not short sighted. I watched his whole career at Essendon and said exactly what he'd be like for us. He's still the same player. Sure, 6 games for us, 6 the same as every other he's played. He won't get better.

Had we known we would have Hibberd and Lewis as well as developing Hunt and Wagner we wouldn't have picked him up....as well as that year out of the game.

Me too nervous about this one. Hawthorn at the G are in my opinion a much tougher proposition than Freo and we know how that ended. They look good on paper and have a good team in paper with enough talent to click at anytime. Will be happy with a win of any kind

Takes Goodwin too long to make the obvious decisions.

We can't afford wasted seasons, matches or even quarters.

Slow to bring in Pedo, Frost.

Slow to drop Oscar,Melksham.

I'm particularly unimpressed with Melksham and his use of the first 6 rounds to justify recruiting him.

They have a couple of decent ins and will be fired up. We wouldn't want to start as we did against the Bombers.

They showed they can still play well as they did against WC and our track record against sides that struggle is worse than poor. The biggest danger is what messes around inside our players heads.

seriously doubt we have those type of contract clauses any more. moreso after a player suffers a self imposed long suspension

One can never be sure. It's all confidential stuff.  I'm still scratching my head to how Geelong pulled off the Dangerfield deal on the cheap.

Wagner had a thumb injury I believe. His fitness should be OK...

Not a great fan either but I can see why they might have persevered given he has been out of the game for 12m and may have needed re-acclimatising...

That's true but we had other defenders who could do the job till we developed/recruited better options.

While all the permutations were not known Melksham's limitations were.

And we didn't have to give him a 4 year contract.

Now we are stuck with him till end 2019.  He is rapidly becoming a depth player and if not careful will be a list clogger, taking up valuable salary cap.

Don't forget he dislocated (or similar) his fibula in a tackle in the first JLT match when he laid that tackle on the boundary line. That may have influenced it a little. I believe when he was about to come back he did the thumb, and i agree, he would be able to continue running etc.

Seven pages, lots of discussion about whether the named 18 will necessarily start...and has no-one mentioned that Hogan is no certainty? Of course I hope he plays (but only if he's ready). Goodwin has made clear that Hogan's been selected but he (Hogan) is yet to confirm that he's ready to play. Goodwin might be playing games, and he might just be making these comments to take the pressure of Jesse to give him all the time he needs. Oscar on the bench might be there in case Hogan doesn't play so we can keep the structure we used successfully last week.

Oops

I forgot - placebo is only used in ethically conducted clinical drug trials.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to
