My dislike for Ess knows no bounds.  So of all games this year this is the one I desperately wanted us to win.

And we did - without 2 of our best players.  A real four quarter effort.

So proud we rose above all the setbacks.

A win that will be a huge confidence boost for the team.

Demons take a bow.

We smashed the drug cheats.  Oh what a feeling.

14 goals combined from Petracca, Watts, Garlett and Hannan.  Delicious.

Happy to win but geez way too many turnovers.

Need to massively improve if we r to get into the finals.

Hated: Most of the game. Melksham. JKH. ANB. No Kent.

Loved: Pedo, love a good Pedo. Petracca. Oli<3r. Watts (gun). Beating those [censored].

It just shows how when we play direct instead of handpassing in circles all the time we look so much better.

Viney breaking the lines in the third quarter was a huge reason we won.

A lot to work on and a lot of players had shocking days, but great to get a win.

I think we need to all pretend the first half didn't happen.

Second half was the Melbourne we've seen this year.  Much better efficiency going forward today, and to see Watts, Trac and Garlett snaffle 11 goals between them is proof of that.

Our midfield stood up well and Pedersen got better and better as the game went on.

JKH had a mare and looks way off the pace, ANB was quiet and Melksham has his moments - he might not be the best player but he certainly did his job on their small defenders who had no influence at all when the game was on the line.  That's easily forgotten.

Would love to back it up again next week with a win over Whorethorn.  What a double that would be.

Nothing warms quite my cockles like beating those (censored), we owe them big time for 148

Important 4 points. There will be 3 finals spots up for grabs this year. Port are certainties to grab one, leaving Richmond, St.Kilda, maybe a wildcard and us to fight for the other two. Clearly Essendon won't be one.

Oliver, 3x the disposals of Parish. And I thought he had a quietish game. Freak.

Tom McDonald and Tyson will cost us a final one day with their poor kicking. Petracca will win us more than one.

About time Daniher spudded it up against us. He would have kicked 7.0 any other time.

Great win and finally Pedo got a game. Very solid all round and should now get regular time in the seniors. Weed needs to develop at Casey for entire season.

Disgraceful first half, great second half.

Pressure, kicking and movement miles better. Viney was much better.

Oliver and Tracca are our future, teams can be built around them. Both brilliant.

Hibbo and Lewy were great, as were Watts and Peders (welcome back)

JKH and Melksham were terrible. Bugg and ANB not much better. Tyson can be infuriating.

Go in against the Dawks with positivity, but be HUNGRY.

I feel sorry for Dom.  He's a great midfielder in terms of finding the footy, getting to the right spots and having an impact.  His kicking, which a few years ago was a strength, and his decision making seriously let him down.  If he could kick like a Hibberd then he would almost be our best player.

Can't decide who i like more at the moment Oliver or Hunt

Hunt's prone to making silly and callow errors at times. Still I like his game.

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
