Although it's almost 12 months away, the shrewd recruiters are already planning for next year's free agency period.

2017 free agents: Fyfe, Dusty head big names

I've heard that one club is already planning  a major coup in securing Fyfe. It's never too early.

Interesting top 2...

What happens if Fyfe doesn't come back the same player after the leg problems and Martin, with his minder gone gets off the chain???

David Zaharakis. Let the other clubs sell their houses snaffling Fyfe, Dusty and the young brigade.

I agree with this sentiment.

You don't win a flag with one player, Dangerfield was almost unstoppable this year and the Cats got flogged in the Prelim.

A champion team beats a team of champions, especially a team paying a lot for one champion.

could see Martin leaving Tiges. he shopped himself around last time but no takers

I reckon there would be takers now

Fyfe and Martin are two of the best players in the competition. Of course we should go after them.

I tend to think the opposite. Shopping himself around can be as much about pushing up the price at his existing club as anything else. Dusty has an established support network at Richmond with players and coaches who know him. I don't see him taking the risk of entering a completely new environment.

Would look at Pittard or Trengove from Port...

Looking down the list, outside of the obvious in Fyfe and Dusty, these two and Breust see the ones that stood out.

Port have a massive cap squeeze to. Trengrove would also fill a need as key position / back up ruck, if we think he is good enough.

Certainly be cheaper than Fyfe or Martin, though I'd love to have one of them as well

Going after them is a fairly meaningless sentiment when stripped of any monetary context. I agree that we should call their managers.

Seems to me that the three top FA's are Fyfe, Kennedy (WCE) and Martin.

As we have Hogan, Weideman and T Smith, there's not much chop going for Kennedy. Martin has issues (plus we might have to get a diplomatic pardon for his bikie old man to get him) so it's Fyfe for me and really - my guess is that if we haven't made a play to his management by now then we could be out of the race already.

Saints have been all about Fyfe for about three years from all reports.

If he's actually serious about wanting to move into the fashion industry off the field, he's gotta go to Sydney, either Sydney or GW$.

All the jungle drums have him definitely leaving Freo, but we shall see...

I'm not particularly interested in the remaining FAs. I'd be targeting the Dylan Shiel's of the world and in GWS' case, they are going to have to keep shedding players. They won't be able to pay for all of those stars either. They've got a few egos up there that demand bigger coin than the rest. J Cameron for one.

If we can get our hands on one or two 23-25 year old A graders to go with Viney, Tyson, Brayshaw, Oliver, Petracca and Salem, once Jones, Lewis and Vince hang up the boots, we'll still have an amazingly deep and talented midfield that will compete with the best in the league.

In the meantime, our midfield is looking pretty scary next season. We've got a great mixture of youth and experience now. We'll definitely knock some big teams over in 2017.

I would love us to extend contracts with our own young talent before talking to someone else's young talent.

We have some good players coming through.  would hate to see an Oliver type leave due to cap constraints from signing a big f/a this year.

Agreed but you would lose at least 25 pages of content on here, shame I say, I thin any club would want to see how Fyfe goes in a dozen games before offering the blank cheque

Rockliff would give us the immediate elite talent we need and help us make a step change towards a finals assault. He will also allow us to hedge our bets on the young talent we have that have potential but have not yet reached elite talent. He will put his head down and bum up in 2017 to set up for his next contract and likely departure from Bris.

Daniel Menzel would be handy given its not easy to recruit for his type. Assuming his knees show some durability in 2017. A;though not many leave Geelong on their own terms.

Don't want to go near Martin.

There would be an auction to get Fyffe and don't want to pay the likely fee to get his services given he has been injured early in his career and now more recently. Would take Rockliff as value for money. Granted Fyffe when fit and playing at his best is a better player

Free agency crop this year was very underwhelming, this year's though looks like a cracker!

Menzel would be an ass to leave Geelong after being carried by them for years. He should stay where he is.

Rockliff has issues written all over him.

Fyfe needs to be heavily assessed, but when fit  would go a long way to lifting us off the bottom of the Champion Data ladder.

More and more FAs are picking where they want to go, so we need to stay focused and improve in 2017, so more like Lewis assess the options they have, and conclude the red & blue offer the best potential of a flag.

As it's the promise of a flag tilt that these star players will be chasing more than more dollars.

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session.
