Probably sticking my neck out here but I have been disappointed in hogans form this year.

Hasn't lived up to the expectations i had of him after last year.

I really thought he would come out and play a blinder yesterday having had a rest the week before.

To me,Its a toss up to play him or Weeds next week,and I think a lot of our so called

 better players Viney,Jones,Watts, didn't have the same impact as last week.

It was as if they had thrown everything at it last week and were tired.

Don't get me wrong,I am happy with the win,especially over there,

but don't think it was played with the same intensity as the Hawthorn game.

His form isnt whats disappointing me (although its a bit down on last year), its more the lack of pack splitting aggression that we saw constantly last season.  He hasnt been as intimidating. Maybe its just 2nd year blues.

If we do get to a Prelim,say against Hawthorn,and Sam Mitchell runs in to the protected zone,giving away 50m to give Max a shot from 40 in front,kicks it and kisses the 11 and we do go to the GF I will be quite happy.

But I'm not getting ahead of myself.

Hogan is playing like a bloke who has a niggling injury. Almost there, but not quite.

Recall Tyson last year carried a leg injury all season.

A Hogan fit in body and mind will be something to behold. Jonno Brown all over again.

Indeed. By this stage of the season in most years, the board is clogged up with 'the (so and so) thread' of some poor kid who would be lauded as a potential savior by all and sundry. I'm not sure there is even one of those threads this year. 
Another good thing is that we have won our bet with the Suns. From what I remember, our trade for pick three last year was given to us in return for our first round pick this year. If we performed well this year, it would be worth less. We beat Carlton and I would say we are looking at something just outside pick 10 (maybe 11 or 12). Well played, Josh Mahoney.

Pack splitting aggression is a function of form.  He's not playing well, he's not as confident, so he's not going as hard, he's missing easy goals.  It's a great big feedback loop.

It's all in his head.  I'm quite comfortable that he'll come out of it, and am happy to just wait (with him in the seniors, before anyone suggests anything silly like dropping him), knowing that he'll come good.

Perhaps his contract is playing on his mind.  He hasn't kicked a goal in his last 3 games and his conversion rate has dropped and is well outside the top 50. 

As an aside does anyone else think Jesse is overweight?  The club 'Heartbeat' magazine has him listed as 104kg...quite heavy for his height especially when compared to other forwards.  The 2015 'Heartbeat' had him @ 101kg.

Maybe he just needs to get fitter, sort out his set shot routine and sign his contract

I think opposition teams have figured out that if they can rattle Hogan mentally early in a game that it neutralizes his effectiveness.

Geez Doc......He is a 20 year old playing in his second full season of footy.....He had a great year last year and has kicked nearly 40 goals this year......He is not our only option up forward now as the emergence of other forwards progresses.   Our expectations grew as a result of last year.

How about we just give the kid a break.

It's a hard old game this footy caper ....you can't expect all the players in the side to play blinders, just be thankful that we are winning when a few stars have off days.

The feeling will be infectious for our young group and I can't wait to see us at the G next week with a big Melb crowd.

What is so pleasing is that when guys like Hogan and Viney are down, others are bobbing up.

Haven't been able to watch any of the game yet, so I didn't know before coming on here that there were negative aspects of a 40-point win interstate against a side we haven't beaten for 5 years or in Adelaide for 16 years.

The fact there are negatives, or perceived negatives, shows how far we've come.

Being excited about football, both short-term and long-term, is how it should be.

We have had an unbelievvvvvvvable run without injury. We just keep getting through games completely unscathed.

Picked up on something at the end of the third quarter. After the mini brawl, VDB went to calm Hogan down (as the team was proceeding to huddle) causing Jesse to shove VDB twice. Anything in it?

The first half was as good as the Hawthorn game, in the second half we had too many silly little skill errors and poor decisions that let Port back into the game.

I think a lot of the mood was because most of us were still in the clouds from last week, which continued in the first half.  We were poor in the third quarter, but now that my ears have stopped ringing from the comedown, I'm very happy with the result and see the game in an overwhelmingly positive light.  

Since you're watching it already knowing the result, I don't think you'll take away the same negatives as those who endured the stress of the third term in real time.
