Correct.

Number of 60+ point losses:

  • St Kilda - 2
  • Port - 2
  • Melbourne - 0
  • Collingwood - 3
  • Richmond - 4
  • Gold Coast - 5
  • Carlton - 5
  • Fremantle - 2
  • Brisbane - 9
  • Essendon - 9

Indeed, we've only lost one game by more than 50 (Sydney) and a second game by over 40 (Port Adelaide).

Our average losing margin is 27.1, 7th best in the league - the 11 teams worse than us average 30+ point losses, including Hawthorn, West Coast, St Kilda and Port Adelaide.

Great post.....this thread just keeps on giving.

This is a joke.

firstly, I assumed Rioli got a fine for the tackle, but no nothing there, instead a fine for a perfect bump to the body.

secondly, Sicily was deemed as medium impact. Are they joking.

third, Mitchell was said to have made a pushing action, not a striking action. Now I know they are taking the p155. All 3 decisions farcical IMO

We'll just have to get the crowd to call Mitchell a slapper next time we play them ...

This win is the one that we all Craved so much, edging out the win against the Cats last year down there when Max came of age, he is such a dynamic force. I don't know what the fitness team did this week but the whole team were running on top of the grass for a full four quarters and finished all over the Top Team!!! watching Oliver on the wing surrounded by hawks pick the ball up one handed and hand ball to a team mate was inspirational are his hands really that big? What a Game to debut in and kick two goals to boot, I loved every minute of that game and have re-watched it again today, it was epic and now they all know what they are capable off, led by Captain Courageous and Max the Gigantor, every player did their bit for the team. It was our best Team Win that I can remember and we all got the chance to be there and Share in the spoils, singing madly, clapping feverishly and Booing those dumb one eyed clowns umpiring the game - Even they could not rain on our Big Day Out at the G. GO You Mighty DEE's!!!

I dont ever remember 2 frees being paid so late within the same game. Solid 2/3 seconds each so bizarre.

From what I saw, the umpires were busy wanking themselves over how amazing Cyril is and took a while to realise there was a game going on.

He did break Bernie's nose, didn't he? I could be wrong, but I thought that was the outcome.

Seriously? I missed that, but that's frigging amazing. Love him.

Yep, his 2nd last and arguably most courageous mark of the day where he ran back with the flight and took it on the chest hitting the pack. Kick came directly from the ball up. Think he lost the hit out, it was only right that he made amends.

I love him too.

I realise the difference between a punch and a slap, but what I don't get is which part of the following equation would change if it was an open hand?

Contact - High

Intent - Deliberate

Impact - Low

I guess the impact of low goes to [censored]-weak, but surely the other 2 categories mean he's still [censored]?

Flip side of the coin, we really need them to beat Norf, well.

If you look at the MRP guidelines they can have a no penalty option a couple of ways.  Either accidental contact or negligable impact (or something like that) will get you no penalty even if you meet the other criteria.

This was a Hawthorn member access game apparently which might explain it. That's what the hawks fans were saying during the  week.

Odd.  I went to a Richmond home game a couple of seasons ago that was a reciprocal Melbourne membership thing and couldn't get into any of the members areas.  Wound up finding a seat in the top tier at quarter time having spent half an hour or so looking for somewhere they would let me sit.

The crowd was down because there were no trains on the Glen Waverley line or the Glenferrie line due to level crossing works. There were also no trams along the Riversdale rd route . Buses replaced all of those.

Also the carpark was closed which totally sucked.

And for all of that, I was there when The Mighty Dees took it up to the AFL's biggest thugs, went toe to toe for three quarters and then took the game away from them in the last.  Great day to be a Demon.

Suprised we haven't seen lots of ZZ Top Beards being worn in the crowd in honour of Big Max.

Maybe Saturday was the Tipping Point

one of the best games i have seen a ruckman play. He was relentless

He reminded me of Gary Dempsey, if anyone can remember back that far. Just a wall. But a better kick than Dempsey.

Marked a ball that was kicked from the ball up he was contesting.

#Gawnfacts

After marking that ball, he then marked the kick into our own forward 50 thirty seconds later. And just to troll us all, he elected not to kick the goal after the siren.

(PS how bad would it be if those 5 points are the difference between 8th and 9th in a few weeks?)

Are there any lip-readers on here? I'm just not 100% sure what Roosy was saying after the Rioli free kick for Jones going high.

Come on, you know what he said.

All I see in the replay is Oliver's head fling backwards. Not sure how that happens without contact to the head.

Whiplash. (Having said that, I have no idea whether Rioli made contact with Oliver's head or not.)

Glad to see some are seeing things as they are leaco. And great to see the week on Sicily , definitely deserved that

Now that Sicily has been suspended for one week, how many weeks should the umpire get for not paying a free for what was unarguably the most obvious high contact in the game?

The most pleasing thing from the win was how hard and tough we were.

Mitchell I reckon was targeted - every time he went near it he was tackled and then crunched.

we finally have confidence!  fend off against hodge? a double fend off? We tackled like animals, in packs, led by Viney.  I have never been prouder of the Dees.

The Hawks resorted to sniper and cheap hits to try to intimidate us, which would have worked in the past.

Laughed when he tried to line up Petracca and take him out.  Like a flea trying to knock over a rhino.  Trac didn't even flinch lol

I remember Dempsey alright. A tremendous ruckman before anyone had the idea of third man up. Near unstoppable when he was  on song. More mobile than Max in the sense of running style. Horrible what happened to him in that fire.

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo
