Paul Roos on the Couch tonight

Didn't get asked about Hogan's contract once. Not once. Why? WHHHHHHYYYYY? OMG, he's definitely leaving and the media know it!!!!

Sorry, couldn't help myself.

Was a pretty straight bat from Roosy. Said that Bernie apologised to him after the game and said 'that was the worst game I've ever played'. Roos just laughed.

Otherwise just spoke about the list and the way forward. Mentioned they spoke as a group to all the 1st and 2nd year players and told them that they needed to commit to getting better - both as a club and as individual players.

Very interestingly they said that 3 games into his coaching career he apparently gave the players an absolute bake about where they are at and how the footy world perceived the players. They then showed the players from Rnd 3 2014 versus this week. Only 6 players remained.

He said he had received a lot of complimentary texts from Dees fans after yesterday's games and that he thought Melbourne fans would be rapt about the win. Somebody needs to  text him the link to Demonland.

He also said Goodwin noted the players looked a bit flat at training during the week and thus the subpar performance wasn't totally unexpected. I found that interesting.

Roos also briefly talked about Hogan's kicking style too. Compared it to how Kennedy was initially criticised for his style, before he got more experience and is now considered a pretty good forward with an odd style. Roos said he expected the same to happen to Hogan with more experience and opportunities.

He also said that T Mac will stay

Well he said he thinks he'll stay anyway.

Later Jonathan Brown was the most positive of the panelists, backing Melbourne to play finals next year, adding that he thinks Melbourne has the best talent of the teams outside the Eight.

Thought he gave a really good interview - definitely more open than usual. Topics covered where:

Gold coast game - Vince admitted it was his worst game for the club. Said it was a frustrating sort of game but not as bad as some commentators thought.

Watts - Watts and Nathan Jones are the two players he's proud of the most. Basically said the same thing as yesterday around the plaudits he's receiving now.

Watts' goal kicking - Says Watts is brilliant technically and has a lot of confidence when he has the ball in his hand.

Jesse Hogan's goal kicking - Says after he improves and gets better with time, people will forget about his funny run up and say it's just his style.

Roos' Legacy - says he's done exactly what he was brought in to do. Rebuild the football department and get them ready for finals. PJ said the FD was below AFL standard.

Finals - Says the team is close but wouldn't commit to an approximate year as to when we will play.

2014 - Substantiated the claim that he looked at the players between the eyes after round 2 loss to WCE and just said that Melbourne supporters just want effort and the scoreboard will tick over.

i think they were the main points. Talked the team up a fair bit including all the young talent.

He also said that, I think it was 11 or 12 times this season, we've fielded the youngest team for the round.

If it keeps happening over and over why doesn't Roos fix it? omg failure!!!

I know this is a thread about Roos's interview, but hope it's OK to talk about some points arising?

Training: If it's noted at the time, could/should something have been done at the time??

Hogan's kicking: He's left handed. And I noted, close up, his ball drop for his missed attempt from the Outer flank, Punt Rd end. Looks like a left hander's (emphasis on the left hand, ball 'held' left of centre) Might be contributing?

Footy is funny, if Tom Lynch kicks the winning goal I guarantee they wouldn't have said all those nice things about our list.

Agree Clint. It would've been more along the lines of again losing the unloseable, and if our kids are actually developing correctly.

I said the same thing to my dad and sister listening to the radio on the way back to the car yesterday - one kick changes the commentary so much, proves how stupid and micro-focused the media are.

Christ on a bicycle we were awful. And that's not the full list, either.

Jack Watts made a similar comment in his Press Conference today.  When asked if he's spending more time reading the papers these days, his response was something to the effect of "Absolutely not!  When the media are building up the positives, they go way over the top, and when they are attacking your lows, they again exaggerate the reality"

Not really. Football is about winning, we won.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi
