POST MATCH DISCUSSION - Round 16

Thought Roos and co. strategised this game really well. We spent all our energy early to set up a sizeable margin and coasted from there. Was really important that guys like Watts, Kent and Hogan kicked goals early which they did, while Gawn, Viney, Jones and Tyson dominated in the centre.

It was predictable that the quality would fall away late; it was clear this was going to happen with how hard all the players were blowing even at quarter time.  I know it's frustrating that we couldn't bury them, but we're the youngest team playing in summer like conditions, and we're ranked 10th.  People need to lower their expectations a bit.

Grimes was fantastic and was one who didn't drop off - in fact I'd say he lifted in the second half.  Looking forward to his 100th next week.

The quality fell away in the third quarter. That's hardly late in the game. I found it an incredibly frustrating game, but I understand there were some circumstances that led to this.

I think given how taxing tonight's game looked, we will get absolutely flogged by the Saints.

Did you watch Geelong vs Swans last night?

Rampe is the best small defender in the comp. Jetta probably top 3.

Rampe is one of my faves from any other team. He is 189cm though, hardly a small, but can play incredibly well against talls.

Real happy with the win despite the dull second half ( missed all the exciting 1st half Telstra ya mongrels!!).

Grimes will be hard to knock out of the back 6 now after that effort, especially with Salem n H a fair way off! TMac was superb, hard to fathom how ordinary our backline just might be without him.

Hogan solid, tonight will be in the front of his mind if he has not might his mind up on his future just yet!

Youngest side in the comp once again, upside is enormous in my opinion, enjoy the ride!

Three weeks in a row opposition clubs have used some interesting physical stuff on Hunt. A fair bit has been very ordinary  , but most impressed  by Hunts focus at the footy.

Can't believe some of the journo's get paid. The one that did the report on the AFL site didn't have T Mac in the best players. FMD.

I'm sure some of them don't watch the game and merely look at the stat sheet. It's either that or they are completely clueless.

And just while I'm in the stats mood, Gawn now 130 plus hitouts ahead of his nearest rival. He's only a goal behind Goldstein and is averaging more possessions and more marks.

How much fun is it going to be watching Max on Brownlow night?

We are ranked 2nd in disposals, 2nd in contested possesions, 2nd in clearances overall in the comp which bodes very well. When we get the frustrating turnovers (ranked 16th!!) out of our game  we will be a top 8 team before we know it. Currently ranked 12 th for efficiency which you would expect will improve next year with more games into this youngsters.

He should host it.

They see a skinny kid with a headband and assume he's soft. They couldn't be more wrong.

Like Hell Bent I was only able to join a telecast at 1/2 time.

I apologise on his and my behalf for the evidently consequent drop in quality of our team's play :(

Still, some great passages of running/linking play to get excited about.

Very happy with the win....this was a big danger game and off a 6 day break against a team that had 15 days, I thought we showed resilience in the last half after they got on top halfway through the third.  I'm certainly not going to try and get this one on "Name a Game" but there were some really positive signs...they led 12 to 6 quarter and  before you knew it we were up 56 to 13, so to kick 7 on the trot was very pleasing.  We completely dominated the first 2 and half quarters.

Big game next week against the Saints, who are 4-5 goals better at Etihad.  At least we get an 8 day break. and it wasn't a bruising encounter so I don't think we can use the "we played in Darwin" card if we lose this week.  I just hope we decide to man up that blonde centre half forward for St Kilda this time....

Missed a chance in the 2nd and 3rd to put them away and then rest key players in the last. Especially with Vince and Oscar injured. Good effort from Vince to stay out there and then go back when required.

A quarter of great footy was followed by doing enough to win.

The last time we played like that was against the Pies early in the year wasn't it? Then we got smashed by the saints. Hopefully we are better this time.

Missed the game also, but really pleased to see the stats and hear about Grimes. Well done Jack!  Can't believe Hunt had 29 possies and 100 DT points. Looking forward to a replay tomorrow - at least the first half.

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had
