Really worried about Garlett. Signs a new contract and goes missing.

Frost was good in the backline!

Harmes needs a spell. Ten touches at 20 percent efficiency is terrible.

If you win the contested footy and the clearances you have to convert. A waste otherwise.

Have a feeling Hunt will be something special. Looks a gun.

To be fair, Garlett has been poor for a month, or whenever it was he missed that game or two with an ankle injury.

Agreed on Hunt. His kicking looks a little rushed, like he is still going at full tilt, but other than that, he is a player.

Trengove's comeback is one of the feel good stories of the year, and I don't want to take away from that.

However he is as slow as ever, not just in leg speed but his general movements and disposal makes me feel like he is in slow motion some times.

He doesn't get tackled though, he knows how to buy himself time.

First game of AFL in 800 days and you're hanging it on him.

Your first paragraph is like saying "I'm not a racist, but".

Disgraceful.

They are the reigning premiers. They are a lot more experienced and they just know how to grind you down.

I thought we played really well despite a really disappointing last quarter kicking just 1 point. We had a lot go against us today and some players who basically didn't turn up, namely Garlett.

We also would have been a lot better off playing Pedersen who can take a mark, than butter hands Dawes, especially in this weather. Not sure if Pedersen is sick, but if he was fit it was a costly mistake to leave him out.

A lot of positives today, I thought Frost was very good down back. Vince amazing, Tyson likewise. It was a strong effort and a much improved effort than the slop we've served up against them for 10 years.

And lastly, I hope, although I know we are too weak to do so, that we give the AFL a please explain re: the umpires. The most one sided disgusting biased performance I've seen in a long time. What a joke.

Pedo would've spudded it up against quality opposition.

Hunt and Harmes must be dropped. VDB needs to do much more. Hogan has got to actually learn to tackle.

Hunt!!!  You must be kidding, surely.

VDB first game back after a long lay off was OK

Harmes is out of form - remind me, does Casey play this week or is there another bloody bye?

Dawes was ok, worked hard and led up the ground all day. Needs a crack in the dry for us to find out where he's really at.

I've seen him on dry days and his marking is the same as it was today.. He can't mark the footy, simple.

Happy to see Kent bounce back this week. Was strong around the footy and did some nice team things.

We matched it with them for probably 2-3 quarters of today's game and for periods we out-worked them, out-pressured them, and looked good with ball in hand. But, though we might have had the three best on ground today (Tyson, Vince, Jones), we had probably the bottom 4 or 5 as well.

Ultimately, they were smarter and cleaner when it mattered most. The umpires weren't paying kicking in danger so they kept doing it all day and we were slow to react.

Harmes must be dropped. His turnovers across half forward kill us. Does not deserve a game next week.

OMac was marginally better this week but is still way, way off it.

I didn't like Dawes' game but for a first game back it could have been worse. Wet weather football makes his role harder, too.

Putrid post.

He wasn't even close to our worst player and there might be a good reason for him being a little off the pace of AFL football - 2.25 years out of the game might do that for you.

Not that all, Hunt I believe will be a decent player, but he isn't doing enough at the moment.

I remember VDB as being manic, hardly saw it today, but as I said pre game, this is a game to blow the cobwebs out.

I thought he played a good match.

Great to have another forward line option. Competes hard. We're a better team with him in.

We're watching a different game then, mate. We desperately needed someone to take the pressure off our defenders a number of times coming out of defence. They kicked to Dawes and even when he had the clear height advantage a number of times he never looked like marking it. He took one good mark at half forward when it was kicked perfectly to his advantage.

His failure to get to contests and provide an option down the line time and again is a massive issue. He'd be at those contests from kick outs, because everyone else is stationery.

I'm not saying he has to be the greatest player, but he needs to be able to take the pressure off his team mates every now and then. And when players kick to him one on one in the forwardline against an undersized opponent, he needs to be able to mark it occasionally. Never looked like it.

I dunno bout you blokes but I was disgusted at the loss today. How many years are we going to go through with this. I know I should be patient but today really got to me.

Just watched Bernie's report on AFL.com & it's an open hand to the face. Umpire should have reported himself for being a f.wit.

Isaac Smith is a softc*ck and a fl*g. Umpire Pannell too.

However, Vince may well be in trouble for one of his errant elbows to Mitchell's head in the tackle right before that.

Just over 12 months ago we lost to the Hawks by 105 pts .......they are not as good but we are so much better .....yes there were stupid mistakes but they never gave up & will only get better .....our backline had 2 experienced players in it & 3 very inexperienced and we only lost by 3 & not all of their goals came from backline errors ....give them a break ....very unfair criticism of Dawes ..... it wasn't a day for big forwards but he always make a contest !!

Losing culture. We are starting to lose a few in a row now. Not good

Just today? Not 186, the tanking, the Neeld years, the Scully defection, Stynesy going over the mark or the recent Bomber loss?

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well
